Good question. This is using a metronome that can play the Dot Cut rhythm. It is a setting available on most metronomes. The concept is simple. 6/8 has 6 beats in a bar, but you really only care about the 1(dotted) and the 3(Cut) of each group, so instead of 1_2_3, 1_2_3 which would be an even break down you want 1__3 1__3 this gives a good approximation of the natural swing of a 6/8.
