I had a roadside geology book for Idaho years ago (30+) but never put it to use. It would probably be outdated now, but I wonder if I might have become a rockhound way back then! You never know. I've traveled 95 many times and marveled at the rocks. I'm glad you and Sara stopped to check them out. Thanks for showing us what you found.
Some of the stuff in the book (which came out in 1989) is a bit dated and style in which it is written can be a little hard to follow at times vs the more modern ones but it's still really good. I saw that they just remade the Montana one which I still need to get. US95 along the river sure is pretty, next time you're driving it, stop and check some of the features out.
I enjoyed the road trip for the road cuts. Especially since I have never been to Idaho or seen that area. It was beautiful.

Years ago, up the north fork Trask river, I found some augite crystals in the river. Lots of them. (Oregon)

@@thomaspownall2989 Up in Tillamook state forest there is a spot that you can find them as well. It was before my youtube days but we had some good finds up there.

Roadcuts seem to always have some interesting minerals, sediments, ash, vugs, seams, crystals hidden away in the exposed crevices of the cut. Even find some unexpected specimens. Can you show the book again? Thank you for sharing!
Yeah its Roadside Geology of Idaho, also Washington has a roadside geology book. Both are on my amazon store which there is a link in the description of this video or just go give it a search.

The slate was probably first, then that gap formed and the other minerals were deposited over time.
