Amtrak 7 Detouring on the Wayzata Sub| 7/21/2024

A derailment on the BNSF Staples Sub in Big Lake, MN wiped out both main tracks on the morning of July 20th. Immediately after this happens BNSF reroutes their highest priority intermodal trains and Amtrak. In this video we will get to take a look of Amtrak 7 going through Wayzata in the early morning hours of the night on July 21st. It’s been 9 years since the last time Amtrak 7 has since gone through town. Unfortunately I couldn’t see Amtrak 8 on July 20th but I at least got to see this as you can go a long time without seeing a passenger train on these rails. As of uploading this video it sounds like the Staples Sub will be reopened soon so until they next mishap on the Staples Sub I’ll have this memory to look back on when passenger trains did need to take the Wayzata Sub.
