I love that you didn't edit out the improv lead mistakes in the beginning (3:30 time frame). That's what these things are for. Lay down some loops and test/build your skills. Backing tracks are great, but something like this gives you full control of the chords so you can specifically work on playing over want, or give you the ability to see how to put different layers of rhythm and melodies together. Awesome tools we have these days. Great video here and solidifies this as my next gear purchase.
You can set the FX-loop in the Katana to "Post Reverb", then you can record all your effects and have no issues with the rhythm sounds being effected by the amps internal effects.
Just got my RC10 tonight. Set the loop to post reverb but quickly discovered that you have to do it individually on all 8 patches as well as the panel setting.
Hey, Henning from the past, I am rewatching some old videos because I am researching "what to look for in a looper pedal". Glad you did/do this stuff, very thorough. I also got the 5 points for the Lambada joke, which is fucking mint. 😀
It blows my mind that people have a problem with the virgin drum track on an empty loop being "unsynced" to whatever they're going to record, or that whatever you play free-form into the loop should be synced automatically to a virgin drum track of unknown/undeclared measures that you already have declared in the settings as 4/4 and 104bpm? It makes far more sense to me that you would have the drum track playing already in order to give structure to your base loop. It's amazing that the device is even able to retroactively parse your loop and determine it is 112bpm and 3 measures of 4/4 rather than 4 measures of 3/4.
Good timing finding this video. I get my RC10R tomorrow. I've always had timing problems when stopping and starting at the right times but the LEDs will really help.
Thanks for the insight into this pedal Henning. You make some of the best videos on equipment. I particularly like the use of the of the A/B switch and being able to have 4+ parts to a song! I was looking at 4 loopers and this is the one I need! Thanks again
You are absolutely right as a R&B bass player there is no 7/8 time signature in R&B. Obviously it should have been in prog rock as they say now a days. Nice video
Please, I have Boss RC-10R for several days. I found one trouble. I stop the plaing by double click on loop switch. Now I want to erase the loop. I push the switch longer. But it starts plaing again for several seconds and then the loop is erased. It is problem on stage. It has not to play again. Pls, could you help?
Looking for the “right looper pedal for me” and this is looking like one of the best looper pedals I’m seeing. Been checking out videos on all of the loop pedals I discover
Where did you purchase those amplifier cabinets? I am currently looking to organize my 3 combo amps, in 1 rack-type enclosure? They look great. Very organized.
Thanks for using a Katana, by the way. @22:08 I know about the send/return-problem of the Katana's, that's why you need an RV-500 or SA Collider or some other combination of Delay & Reverb in one or more pedals. You can also put a volume pedal after your Delay & Reverb pedals and your Delay & Reverb offs to tame the power amp with your foot - to battle feedback 'instantly'. There are othher Delays & Reverbs that you might prefer anyhow. Katana works fine on its own, but really, I wish especially the Artist models and Head were a bit more modular. Oh well
4 роки тому+1
You can change the send/return position for each channel to 'post rev' in the Boss Tone Studio, maybe it solves the problem (don't have looper, couldn't try it yet, just planning to buy one soon)
Thanks for your high detailed video! On 13:28, if I changed the drum kit, then, all my tracks would have the same drum kit or it would change just to a specific track?
Great video and review I have the RC10 and I love it. a little bit of a learning curve but still a great looper and drum machine in my opinion and this video has helped open up even more things that I did not know I could do with it so thanks.
YES there is a tap tempo. Go into settings. Use an external foot switch for tap tempo! Actually, a dual switch makes so many features available to control many functions. As you go thru the phases of recording tracks the settings help move everything along perfectly.
Thanks, solid works in there, yes u messed up sometime but that's normal if you are not used into loop station, and you are telling this to who watch your video, if you wanna work live with this you have to study for that. Personally I love the part about sound settings to make the best sound out of your system, cause it's important to mention, you can't make all sounds good just with one Amp and it s better to don't overdub too many things with too many sounds. Personally this is my next pedal to buy and I didn't knew you can have also more then 2 parts, very nice job, keep on dude 👍👍👍
This pedal sounds interesting to me, mainly for the various drum sets. I use a RC3 Boss looper which can be very limitating. You are right about the various layers messing up - I do some basic things: 1. I just play one or two rythm guitar part - less is more (defined) 2. I try not to play rythm parts on the higher strings/frets, to leave room for solo frequencies 3. I ALWAYS use a crunchy sound only and then I search for the better combination of my Strat pick-ups, to get lower (but not mid/mud) frequencies for rythm parts and, again, leave room for higher frequencies for the solo - mind You, I always solo with my neck pick-up but played on higher frets so not to overlap with underlaying section. 4. I often use right fingers to play arpeggio rythm that sound less edgy than using a pick. 5. Maybe You want a rythm part with chords and a second one with bass tones only. Check for example "So funk! So funk!" or "Shadow of Emily Brown" on my Channel if You are curious!🙂
At 43.50 you say “instead of two parts I now have four parts” but I missed how you managed to do that. I used to do something like this on my old Boss RC3 but only with ‘pre-recorded’ loops, because when you ‘switch’ loops you lose anything on the previous loop. You have to ‘stop’ in order to ‘save’ the loop you’ve just recorded, which of course doesn’t work at all in a ‘live’ situation. So for the benefit of myself and anyone else who missed this, (and unless you ‘stopped and saved’ when I wasn’t looking) can you please explain how you managed to get “four parts” from a two part looper? Other than that thanx for a brilliant, informative tutorial
Hi @EytschPi42 Thanks for the video. Help appreciated. Can I have different RHYTHM CTRL 1-3 set on individual phrases (patches?) or is this only a universal setting which dictates the RHYTHM CTRL for all patches? I want RHYTHM CTRL 3 generally but for some songs I want RHYTHM CTRL 1 or 2. Is this possible? Thank you.
Do you know if you can erase a loop without it being audible? Example: you record a loop live but make a mistake and want to try again but dont want audience to hear it being played back for few seconds while it erases
Just got the RC10 and have this issue too. If I've recorded something and I've finished and want to move on to recording something else, holding down loop for 2 seconds starts the 1st record and it then stops after a few seconds and deletes it. Why does it do this ... I just want to erase the entire recording and start again without hearing a few seconds of the one I want to delete. Would be impossible to use this "live" for different "songs"??
What you can do is add an external footswitch and use it to the erase function. It will do it immediately, without playing some secs of the previous loop.
Really considering getting one of these. Other contender is the RC-5. Really like to have a reverse function. Just to be sure: the RC 10r does NOT have a reverse function, right? Or does it?
I saw somone complain that you can't change from unsynced to synced whilst looping. Why not simply start in sync-mode? Some people... Sigh. So @25:31. Apt.
Yes, but it requires some coordination. You have SYNCH = OFF. Your first operation with the LOOP footswitch would record and play Loop 1. With Loop 1 playing (or stopped), to record Loop 2 you need to press and hold first the RHYTHM footswitch and with it pressed, then press the LOOP footswitch. That would record LOOP 2. Sounds complicated, but with the right foot, you press first with the right edge of the shoe with your food at a slant, and then turn inward to the left to press the LOOP. With a little practice it is doable.
do I understand correctly? - a Digitach pedal for more advanced performance experiments, the Boss pedal is easier to learn and it seemed to me that the drum module is better programmed
Thanks for the informative review (as always). I am looking to upgrade from rc2. I thought this would be a good option but my band plays a lot of 5/8 songs so the absence of variety for that time signature is a deal breaker for me. Probably go for the rc500 and build rhythm tracks in abelton live9. The rc500 also gives me the option of plugging in a microphone to my looper as well.
Thanks for the review! I have bought an RC10C and I`m getting along with it. But I can't find an application to change the rhythm from 4/4 to 3/4 or 6/8. How can I do that?
Thank you for answering! Yes, I have looked into the manual, but on the device there is nothing but 4/4. The 3/4 and 6/8 pattern in the manual are not available in fact. Is it possible to download these rhythm patterns from Boss? Where can I do that?
So i see that it has 2 in's, what im curious to know is could you hook up your guitar and your bass at the same time? and using the 2 out's to send them to their respective amps? like guitar in and out to guitar amp, then in 2 bass and out 2 to bass amp so that im able to loop a bass pass to my guitar... not sure if you understand me, english is not my first language hehe

I play live a 1 man band, so i don't want the crowd to listen to the drums before it should. Thank you !
Nice looper, good tutorial! Damn you and that shirt... I had to grab my acoustic and play Vincent... (Yes I know, WTF?!?! Van Gogh Starry Night led to starry starry night and Don McLean... my mind is a strange place!😱 LOL)
@8:14 it was a little bit 1995 on synthesizers that would cost you $ 2000. Not a very good comparison. My Zoom multi-effects f rom late 90s had a much worse interface, and costed about the same as this box costs. So.... Also, user interface was part of my study. This is not outdated at all. Twitch-chat IRC, now that is an old interface !command lol. Note I said old though, it's not outdated, 'cause it's very much in use!
The interface on this is virtually identical to my c1995 KORG AX30G, (similar price) but I see what you mean about old not meaning obsolete or outdated.
If you use it with the two output options, you can send the rhythm to another speaker/device. I also have a Katana and wasn’t very pleased with the rhythm volume, even maxed. Then I used my old mini-Katana and now my guitar sound comes from my right and the drums from my left 😂
@EytschPi42 I was very close to ordering one, but I am hesitating because of this. Do you have any opinion about the drum intro? Do you find it feels natural?
Thank you by this video! Pretty good! Please can you help me? I would like to know if I can record a bass lines with a real bass instrument instead of a guitar? I will play the guitar over the bass/ drums loops, do you understand? The pedal just will soubd bass and drums! Thank you for your attention! I'll wait for your answer before I buy this pedal! And I'm very happy to know that the lambada is fired! 😂 I like so much your way to explain, so cool! Thank you!
@@aaronshortmusic That unit looks nice. Pretty handy to have the XLR input. I'm just wanting to get good with the RC10 and the LED lights will help me with start/stop at the right time. That was always the hardest part when I tried looping in the past. I think I'll be happy with the unit. I have a lot of drum loops from Logic so I'll see how that goes converting them and using them in the looper.
I just bought one today plugged it in and the led display screen blinks repeatedly and doesn't actually show anything other then light. On and off over and over .. wtf am i doing wrong. Its brand new from guitar center
Hmm. I am taking an RV500 and DD500 off my board and have added a GT1000CORE. With the extra space I started looking at the RC500, then actually preferred the look of the RC10R but now I have seen the Trio+ I really like the way it works things out itself. Maybe the RC500 should have been the combination of both of these products. Update: I ordered the Aeros. Will add a BeatBuddy.
Hi I was wondering if you could help me? I just got this pedal. I have it in A-B mode with the drums going to my PA. The guitar I am running from my amp to my multi-effects pedal to the RC10r. I have the rhythm, and loop sync`d. When I do the first recording, I have a clean tone on my guitar, it sounds, and works good with the drums. But when I change my clean guitar on my multi-effects to a distorted tone and try to do the overdub, the whole first recording on the RC-10r I just recorded becomes distorted with my guitar! What am I doing wrong? I should be able to change tones for different overdubs, without the whole thing changing, I would think? I must have something set wrong? I really would appreciate your help! Thank you!
This happened to my RC 30 when i plugged the looper into the front of my amp. I was advised to plug the looper into the amp effects loop which solved the problem.
@@petersmith6837 Thank You for the reply! I was afraid that was what it was. My amp doesn`t have an effects loop. Oh well I do alot of acoustic stuff also, so I guess until I get a different amp someday. That`s what it will be used for! Have a great one! And thanks again!
Curious i am looping to buy a new setup. I get a multi effects pedal and the rc10r I will need an amp with effects loops inputs in order to change my sounds ? I don’t want to have a problem with when I change modeling the whole loop changes ?
@@Anthony-tm4zx Just got mine not that long ago, so haven`t had a chance to run through a amp with effects loop yet, but Yeah, if I try to record 2nd overdub with a distorted guitar it muddies everything!
I still have my Boss DR-3 routed into my looper and have been looking for alternatives... where’s that buzz coming from? Thanks HP, really interested in this \m/ *Thanks for leaving your retakes in there, ha ha. I feel ya!
Well, damn, I've just spent the last few days losing my mind trying to figure out which looper pedal to get, this is good timing. Been thinking between this. the RC-30 and a used Pigtronix Infinity Looper.
Dont do it this thing is terrible. I absolutely hate it and you have to buy an extra pedal just to make it work properly. I had the old boss looper the RC 20 and I loved how easy it was to use. This one they screwed up
I'm going to make a free mobile improvisation system based on my favorite motives. I have a Micro cube bass rx combo with a Boss gt-01 processor. But I can't choose between the Boss RC10R looper and the DigiTech band criator + looper. I used DigiTech without a looper, the pedal seemed incomplete to me. I will completely steal two questions. 1) which pedal draws the most power? 2)can I plug guitar and bass into a looper at the same time, recording loops in turn?
i wish this could be a 2 button looper with memory banks like an rc5 without the need for extrernal switching, don't really care about the rythm section
IT IS A TEACHING TOOL I THINK THAT IS WHY IT IS NOT SINKED you have to sink it after correct,, some of theses thigs are very difficult to uas this one looks pritty cool
This is the BEST demo of this pedal on UA-cam. I have watched quit a few videos of this pedal because I’m planning to upgrade my RC-3.

If only it had the bass in there like the trio, thank you for not having a crap load of adds whilst you are demoing this. Good job mate.

Nice looper, good tutorial! Damn you and that shirt... I had to grab my acoustic and play Vincent... (Yes I know, WTF?!?! Van Gogh Starry Night led to starry starry night and Don McLean... my mind is a strange place!😱 LOL)
Great demo at the beginning of the video.
Brings a whole new meaning to on man band.
Trio plus or this?
Much better than reading the manual...
So there's no way to use this with my Katana Mk2 50 without it sounding like whatever patch I'm on because it doesn't have an effects loop right?
If you use it with the two output options, you can send the rhythm to another speaker/device.
I also have a Katana and wasn’t very pleased with the rhythm volume, even maxed. Then I used my old mini-Katana and now my guitar sound comes from my right and the drums from my left 😂
@@tiagomatias5878 Cool. I can do that.
THANK YOU FOR THE CLASS!
Is there any way to make it so it does simple metronome or tick count-in intro instead of fancy rhythmic intro?
I don’t think so
@EytschPi42 I was very close to ordering one, but I am hesitating because of this. Do you have any opinion about the drum intro? Do you find it feels natural?
Does it have auto mode and can u use the first loop to set the tempo as u can w the rc2?
Don’t know what you mean by auto mode, but yes, the second loop is automatically set to the same tempo as the first. You can override it.
Excellent video as always, Henning. Can I put this in line with my Pod Go and everything work together just fine, ya think?
Haha Pod Go Brr Brr
Thank you by this video! Pretty good! Please can you help me? I would like to know if I can record a bass lines with a real bass instrument instead of a guitar? I will play the guitar over the bass/ drums loops, do you understand? The pedal just will soubd bass and drums! Thank you for your attention! I'll wait for your answer before I buy this pedal! And I'm very happy to know that the lambada is fired! 😂 I like so much your way to explain, so cool! Thank you!
Yes you can also use bass
@@EytschPi42 Thank you!
Great review Henning. I have one of these too and it’s really great but I wish I could disable the crash cymbal completely.
Can't you import your own loops? Loops without a crash?
@@brandonlesko3126 Yes but I want to use the included beats as too. I’m using the RC-500 now as you can turn off individual parts.
Its brand new from guitar center
are you giving it the correct power? If so, then it might just be broken
Put my Mooer 150 processor into the rc-10 so effects are shaped anyway you want then loop and drums need no shaping in the 10. Seems good
3:16 😆 priceless!
the funiest solo fail :)
Thanks. I learned a lot from your video
@petersmith
@@Anthony-tm4zx Just got mine not that long ago, so haven`t had a chance to run through a amp with effects loop yet, but Yeah, if I try to record 2nd overdub with a distorted guitar it muddies everything!
I love this guy 😂❤
great demo bruhhh👌👌👌👌
Cool bonk box that loop 👍🙂
Very helpful, thank you!
@3:18 we've all been there dude!🤣👍
Show me a touch screen pedal?
Beebo by Poly Effects
I still have my Boss DR-3 routed into my looper and have been looking for alternatives... where’s that buzz coming from? Thanks HP, really interested in this \m/ *Thanks for leaving your retakes in there, ha ha. I feel ya!
Man, I do not want a touch screen on my guitar pedals. I'm fine with how Boss chose to do the parameter entry here.
This one they screwed up
@@MrTheBlueshound His video actually got me interested in the Trio+. Will probably go with that or maybe the RC-30.
@@Skrubenz no trio+ is a toy, dont buy it
I'm going to make a free mobile improvisation system based on my favorite motives.
ROFL!!! LAMBADA?! 1991 or 1992 Pop Latina Summer Hit?! XD I thought it was just an Italian hit!! Lol thanks for the memories... :D
Great job!
very helpful
Touchscreens don't like big sweaty Hands.
quality content
Nice shoes sir
You can turn the intro off in the settings
i wish this could be a 2 button looper with memory banks like an rc5 without the need for extrernal switching, don't really care about the rythm section
IT IS A TEACHING TOOL I THINK THAT IS WHY IT IS NOT SINKED you have to sink it after correct,, some of theses thigs are very difficult to uas this one looks pritty cool
The second pattern has to be part of the same drums patch
hpe your day is well.
Not having touch screen is an advantage
