  • I created a Guitar Fret Generator plugin for Fusion360. You can read more about it on www.audiohotshot.nl
The Guitar Fret Generator only produces the frets so you can project them onto your fretboard.
The plugin is available for free on my GitHub
    github.com/Audiohotshot/fretg...
Download the files and copy it to your Addin folder of Fusion360.
    Features:
    - flexible amount of frets
    - flexible width
    - straight frets
    - slanted frets
    - optional dots with adjustable diameter
    - centre construction line
    - draws on x-y plane
    - draws position of bridge/tremolo
Using the plugin or do you have any suggestions? Let me know in the comments!

MAN, your channel just decided which software I want to use and the fretboard planner ALONE is AMAZING. Thank you so much!

Thanks for writing this generator. It worked very well and saved a whole lot of time.

it will be so nice to determine strings number and string spacing from the nut and bridge, thank you so much for your add in

I had thought of that, but at the time I created this I found that being able to simply draw where the frets are positioned was more effective to me than adding more details.
I read the term width as: the frets must AT LEAST cover the whole fretboard. Then later I can adjust the depth and actual width of the cut. (some like to not see the sides of the frets and thus machine a few mm smaller than the width of the fretboard)
I'll keep your idea in mind, though, thanks!

Installed, tried it out, and it seems to work. I'm Canadian so I'm in a love/hate relationship with imperial measurements (mostly hate). I wish we'd just got completely metric, but there's just so much legacy stuff in the way. Having said that. It would be nice to have the option to put scale length in inches, but I'm not complaining.
I was going to try to do something like this myself and you just saved me a great deal of work. You are a fantastic human. thank you very much.

I'm sorry! It never crossed my mind that imperial or metric would be an issue, because of the fact that Fusion360 asks for the default units, which I thought also implied automatic switching between metric and imperial, but apparently that doesn't work for plugins.
You are quite right asking for that implementation, sir. I'll look into it and try to come up with an easy solution for this.

Very cool stuff!! Thank you so much, I'll be using it for industrial design study. Hopefully down the track a project guitar with fanned fret, which is normally really expensive to get a decent one - can't appreciate enough for this!

Is there a way to set the Width at multiple places? For normal scale it doesnt matter too much since you can just stretch the sketch horizontally, but for multiscale having a single width all the way across the neck means the fret placement is incorrect if it is stretched. Ideally it should have two inputs for width at bridge or 12th fret or bridge and width at nut. Great channel, thanks for putting in all the effort.

This will save me a TON of work! Thank you!! Is there a way to customize the dots? I will be doing a variety of custom inlays, like diamonds, that I’d like to include.

I tend to just use the fret2find fretboard generator because you can export a single-page full-scale PDF with vector lines in it that you can extract. I do that because I work in Adobe Illustrator to perform all my templating before bringing it into F360, but I think I may have to get this plugin for any occasion I can do without it..

Multiple ways of doing things, I like it! Good tip, thanks!

Great plugin, really helpful. Thank you. Is there a way to edit the sketch later on in the design using the Plugin? I have drawn a test sketch with it but it seems to me that one time hit "OK" you have to edit the sketch manually. Could be that I'm missing an option but if not - would be great to have the option to "edit sketch with plugin". Just as a suggestion ...

Glad you find the plugin useful! I'll look into you suggestion, although as far as I know now Fusion360 doesn't offer the option to re-edit any given line/circle after the user has pressed OK. Fusion just sees a bunch of lines instead. You can always delete the sketch and run the Fret Generator Plugin again with the needed corrections. Hope this helps!

This plugin looks very useful. I have spent ages drawing fretboards. As the fretboard will be tapered how would you deal with this, sorry if I missed something

The purpose of the FretGenerator-plugin is to create fretlines which you can project onto a fretboard. My video “Adding frets to a guitarneck in Fusion360” shows you what I mean. So you can design the shape of your fretboard how you like it and start FretGenerator, fill in the width and add the fretslots. Hope this helps!

Well, I must really suck at computer stuff. I've tried everything I can think of, still haven't installed it properly. I'll try to get my son to help, he is far more a computer guy than I am. Appreciate your efforts, hope I can use it soon.

Hi, I tested the plugin lately (seemed to work), sorry to hear it doesn't work at your end.
You might want to try this version: github.com/Audiohotshot/neckgeneratorv2
(I read your comment, so I decided to upload it today so you could have a chance to test it :-)
I made a few changes (killed the slant function for now though).
It no draws the outline of the neck taking in to account the space between the outerstrings and the neck width.
Perhaps this version does work for you!
