    ICEs will be manufactured for underdeveloped countries? What stupidity.
    An underdeveloped country is the place where few new cars are sold. Where very, very few expensive new cars are sold. You can't run an ICEV factory and produce an affordable car unless you can sell several hundred thousand per year.
    China has shown that it's possible to make a decent EV for less than $10k. That's going to sell in underdeveloped countries. They'll forgo high range and high speed in exchange for utility. And underdeveloped countries don't have oil wells and oil refineries. They have to import fuel, paying with scarce dollars. Buy solar and wind once, be done with the cash drain.

    ehh, ICE engines will become pretty niche if the number of gas stations fall dramatically. suddenly the drive to get gas is less convenient than any charge. seems more likely some companies think they can't compete with China so are milking denial for everything it can produce.

    Bi-directional charging only makes sense to power your own house in a blackout. Having the power company wear out your car battery cycling it, because they don't want to build backup capacity into their own system is a NON-STARTER as far as I am concerned, Bad idea. Of course the power companies and PSC's can make and break this with regulations. They have all the cards on this one.

    Well sure, Model T's are still around as well, just not many of them! The current slight slump in EV sales is a temporary bump in the road. In my view you can thank the enormous propaganda campaign by the Oil industry to scare the average buyer away. However the advantages of an EV will shine through. I bought my first EV a year ago and have had such a positive experience and my per mile energy costs have plummeted 90% compared to my previous ICE. I would never go back to an ICE vehicle, they are expensive, dirty & require take up valuable time with regular visits for servicing! There are NO servicing requirements with an EV other tire rotation and wiper blades!

      The same is starting to happen with renewables, they lack the expensive and cumbersome fueling infrastructure in many areas, so no old baggage holds them back, turns out to be a blessing in disguise now.
      And as result they seem to be adopting solar and electrification much more easily, some Africa countries even build their own local EV bikes.

    The issue is not that ICE vehicles being around until 2099. The real question is will we be here by that time. If we continue with ICE vehicles at our current levels we may be gone mush sooner than 2099. It’s important to keep progressing towards electric and other clean vehicles. We cannot afford to keep moving forward on this planet with gas powered vehicles. This is coming from someone who almost died from driving a Chrysler 200c. The car was releasing C02 into the cabin. I kept taking it back, I went to the top the company would not repair or replace the car. My doctor found high levels of carbon monoxide in my blood. Still Chrysler would not do anything. I had to cut a loss and get another car that I can drive safely but I do have damage to my body from breathing on those poisons and toxins for over a year. I live in Dallas where the air quality is very bad. People are allowed to modify their truck to roll coal. Air quality alone kills millions of humans all over the planet. Most of us never consider our cars for being the reason for cancer or being sick. If you are fatigued after driving your car, a headache coughing and you don’t smoke. It’s your environment and possibly your car.

Charge you (oh at discount i'm sure, yeah) to keep power for them xD what a joke and to think people are getting brain washed into thinking this is ok. Come out to your car one day to find 25 miles charging xD xD xD yeah right, because we know it will be at random sometimes and you have to pay the price for it. When the day comes i get a EV, that will be the first thing that gets deleted or something inline to prevent power going back into system.

      A few years back one of the DOE labs did a study on the grid and EVs. They found that if every car and light truck in the US turned into an EV overnight we had enough spare capacity to charge 80% of them. Our transmission system would supply 70%. Vehicles are transitioning to EVs over time, not over night. We'll have no problem staying ahead of demand.
      A very large solar farm can be constructed and brought online in a year. In fact, parts of it can start coming online in only a few months.
      A very large wind farm can be built in less than two years. It takes about three days to stand a wind tower, install the turbine on top, and connect it to the grid.
      Our current batteries are just fine. Affordable, non-flammable, and very long lasting (LFPs). And the price should get even better.

      Did you know it takes a ton of energy to extract and refine oil?
      In some case studies EVs replacing oil actually even reduce grid pressure in some areas.
      Clean air, more efficient transport, and less energy wasted to simply "create" energy for an inefficient ICE vehicle to consume.

      Texas has one of the highest rates of Renewables of any state with more wind than anywhere else in the US.

      The grid is doing fine. Some of the language in today's report was a bit misleading.
      Over the last three years, California has completely eliminated rolling blackouts, which used to happen quite frequently. They did it by adding a large amount of solar generation and battery storage to the grid.
      There was also a boom in residential solar and battery installations, including the ability to feed power to the grid when needed.
      Meanwhile, California's auto sales are over 25% BEV.
      EVs are all over the place in California, and yet, they have eliminated the rolling blackouts they used to have.

    • @AllanSustainabilityFan
      @AllanSustainabilityFan 2 години тому +1

      Which likely wont be the case for long, as EV volumes scale up and their technologies advances further, their costs go down, pulling demand from ICE, which is at a dead end in development by comparison.
      This in turn reduces production scale and shuts down more factories, raising the cost of producing ICE products and parts, which in turn feed into ICE demand shifting to more EV demand.
      Rinse and repeat, the virtuous cycles of disruption and obsolescence working in tandem as usual.

    Just saw VW asks for only about 23k for a fully loaded Passat in China. With heated, ventilated, adjustable rear seats. And so much more.
    Same car would be double if not 3 time the price in North America and Europe. VW just wants to be as uncompetitive as possible and nickle and dime customers. I sat in the current gen Tiguan they give us in the US. A higher end version and it had such poor build quality. Felt like a 2000s American car. All cheap black plastic. They are absolutely determined to not try.
    And after days of no power thanks to this hurricane I have even more skepticism about owning a EV. Still have gas stations. Don't have a place to charge any potential EV.

    ICE will be around for a long, long time for a very simple reason that the only problem EVs solve is pollution in large Chinese cities.
    EV contribution to reduction of CO2 emissions is very minor, given that personal transportation consumes only about 5% of energy globally and and most of electricity is generated by burning natural gas and coal.
    At some point even automotive journalists and politicians will understand that replacing all ICEs with EVs will have only minor impact on CO2 emissions and that it will be necessary to look at areas where most of energy is being consumed (heating & cooling and industrial processes).
    That’s assuming the desire to reduce global CO2 emissions is serious.

    • @DavidC-pg6ni
      @DavidC-pg6ni Годину тому

      Nonsense. It’s NOT CO2, it’s toxic pollution coming out of your tailpipe that poisons your family and your friends and your neighbors and yourself.
      Anybody who can’t tell that EVs have already dominated the largest New Vehicle Markets and are scaling faster than ICE vehicles ever did doesn’t understand that Global Impacts on the supply chains as China goes nearly 100% EVs by the end of the Decade for New Vehicle Sales. Europe is already there in some countries like Norway and the Scandinavian Countries. The rest of Europe is following suit quickly. The US will catch up soon as the Prices of EVs continue to drop and ICE vehicles continue to go up in price.
