The mana system reminds me of Duel Masters. I like that the goal is to gain a point value than reduce it to win All the key terms like “ink” really fit the vibe of the game. Promising!
I play alot of keyforge and it's similar But the big difference is that in keyforge you don't have to spend a cost or anything to play cards And in lorcana you need ink to pay the costs of your cards
@deifiedtitan so the rules are a pretty recent addition to keyforge so I don't know all the ins and outs but The way it works in keyforge Is You buy your decks Each keyforge deck has 3 factions Each Faction has 12 cards In the constructed mode you pick 3 factions from any of your decks For example I can pick my dinosaur peeps from one deck and my robots from a different deck Or I can pick 2 factions from one deck and 1 Faction from a different deck All factions have to be different, no doubles So I can't have 2 robots and one Dino faction in a deck In tournaments I believe they are gonna verify your deck is valid before hand Then you get black sleeves so you can't see the specialized art on the backs of the cards
Yeah I think personally I'll just opt to put them upside down 180degrees like some other games I play. At least that way it'll be clear to me and my OPP what cards I put down in my inkwell and keep track of things.
They’ve actually announced it is private to both players and at this time, once they are there you aren’t allowed to look. notes arent confirmed to be allowed or not yet
Thanks for this! I know you said you don’t know of any limitations on your board but I was wondering if that was confirmed. There’s no inkwell card limit? Or for characters?
Wait, are you not allowed to use abilities during another player's turn? Because Elsa is able to exert herself to exert another character, won't that be useless other than rendering them vulnerable to attack? :/
I think we haven't seen enough cards to know. I do like that you'll never be "ink-stuck" like you do with MTG mana (with the restriction being you can only play dual color decks). Generally though, based on what we've seen so far I think there's promise! Only thing I don't love is that creature retain damage between turns, that gets a little annoying to track irl 😅
@@EspiraTCGafter playing for 3 hours you rarely keep track of life since most die on 1 hit. You can be ink stuck btw by not drawing enough land version cards
@@Rayquaza894 Right but to that end you probably really need to take a look at your deck construction. Not having a dedicated land card and having ink be spread across your playables eases the issue incredibly.
Soooo...beginng phase is completely MtG. Untap, upkeep, draw. One land per turn. First player doesn't draw. Summoning sickness, tapping to use a card. Spell cards, creatures, items (artifacts). This is ripping everything from MtG. That being said, I'm probably going to invest in this.
Why doesn’t Disney just make this a digital tcg that’s where the money n player base is .. pvp ladder etc and you don’t have to print cards .. doesn’t sound like a normal BATTLE tcg like heartstone or runeteera .. they could make it something like RuneScape legends with the whole questing n board factor .. defeating minions on the way etc etc
Hey it was fun back then lmao. If I played it now it would probably be infuriating tho. They changed it from having 1000->0 in JP to 0->1000 in US. Why is beyond me
The character cards are attack/defense + abilities, which is what we've seen on 1000's of TCGs??? What a colossal fail of creativity. Hard--and i mean hard!--pass. I have tabletop design buddies that could have come up with something more original than this.
Unfortunately reinventing the wheel likely would result in a flop. Keeping familiar mechanics, giving them flair, and adding classic characters is a much safer bet for appealing to the existing player base.

Not sure how they line up to Boros/Lorehold/Red+White in Magic, but I like Amethyst, Sapphire, and Steel cause I like the colors
The cards look beautiful already
They sure do!
Dang, no instant interaction. I'll probably still give it a try. thanks for the video!

great video, but oh nooo dude your headphone head dent is really noticable from the beginning of the video

I'm sure they'll eventually add some sort of instant interaction

So you can't do anything to 'attack' your opponent to reduce their lore, right?
There are specific cards that interact with your opponent's lore, but no nothing inherently allows you to do so

The shifting mechanic how it works
So we placing sleeved cards face down for energy? Idk I find that to be the weirdest mechanic.
