    I love the terminology “Solid 15”. And thank you for building a deck like that and expressing that it is a good place to start! It helps me feel like it isn’t a bad way to start.

    Prices are so high on singles right now that I can’t justify holding on to them to deckbuild a competitive deck. prices for some normal non-foil cards are $15-$30. Sold three today for $50. Crazy!

    I played in a local tournament this weekend and all three players had decks they saw online. I was demolished. Looking into how much they would have had to spend on either boosters for random pulls or individual cards and was stunned. By my estimate, two of the players, who were hardened MTG players as well, had to have spent around $300-$500 (depending on if they got the boosters at MSRP or not) and the other one had four Legendary Elsa's that are selling for about $40 apiece right now. I figured getting in on the ground floor with a new game would be more fun and competitive but it won't be enjoyable if every other player is just copying meta decks when I'm just trying to cobble together a decent deck with the limited product I've been able to find. The deck featured in this video is one of the exact decks I saw at the tournament.
    All that said, just so I'm not all negative: I am having fun putting together an Amethyst/Emerald deck with two starter boxes and the 14 booster packs I've managed to get my hands on. My main hope with the game is that once it's died down a LITTLE, the MTG players will go back to MTG and the Lorcana scene can really get into full swing on its own.

    Coming across from Yu-Gi-Oh, this is my first foray into a TCG with a mana system and boy... It has been an overwhelming change to wrap my head around, but I'm feeling really positive about the game.
    I've played with all 3 of the starter decks and found myself drawn to the playstyle of the Amber/Amethyst deck most, but could not for the life of me figure out where to begin when crafting a deck that is more personal and with more competitive edge.
    This video perfectly explained so much of the process and ironed over many of the problems I was having.
    Your hard work on putting this together wirh such good visual elements and concise explanation is HUGELY appreciated! Liked and subbed!

    Just built a Emerald/Ruby deck based around evasive creatures. Little bit of removal and lore stealing thrown in for good measure. Not overly competitive but a load of fun to play. Curve peaks at the three drop slot and I have 44 inkable cards in there so there’s plenty.

    Real players hate net decking and it’s got the weakness that everybody knows what you have. It’s good to see what somebody is playing commonly and then making your own build with those in kind as opposed to net decking

    Great video, thank you! Question from someone new to playing a TGC: do you have any tips for deck building when you don’t have 4 copies of a card? I’d love to build a deck around Stitch - Rock Star as well, but I only have 2. Until I can get my hands on two more, what can I do in the mean time?

    • @ashersmith7267
      @ashersmith7267 10 місяців тому +2

      My advice is that you alter the deck so that you are able to win even without drawing Stitch Rock Star. You'll probably have to put in some other higher cost cards that can push you over the edge. And with only 2 Rock Stars, you probably don't need to include as many 1s and 2s because you won't be pulling off the Rock Star draw combo as often which means that you can put in more cards that will work well in the middle of the game, like in the 3 to 6 range.

    • @zozzle303
      @zozzle303 10 місяців тому

      @@ashersmith7267 makes sense, thank you!

    • @bsquared24
      @bsquared24  10 місяців тому +5

      This is a great question! When you don't have enough copies of a card you'd like to include there are a few things you can do.
      The first thing is to add copies of a card that fill a similar role. When the cards are more unique like Stitch, you have to get creative. Obviously there isn't another card with Stitch's ability, and that's what the main win condition of the deck in the video was, BUT if you recall I also mention that the general goal of that deck is to be aggressive, playing down normally cheap units with high lore count. You might not be able to focus in on Stitch as much, but Stitch still helps with this win condition. He's a 6 cost unit that can be shifted for 4, and has 3 lore. Rather than building around Stitch's win condition, you can build more around the aggressive questing and have 2 Stitch's in your deck as support pieces. If you draw them, great! If not, your deck doesn't immediately lose.
      When I mention cards that fill the same role it can be a bit tricky to figure out, so for Stitch specifically I'll give an example. Because there aren't any other cards that have his ability, there is no replacing that. So the next best thing is trying to find cards that fill another role Stitch was also playing, which was either being a draw engine, or being a late game bomb having 3 lore. Cards in Amber/Amethyst that fill this role are cards like Moana, and Dr. Facilier Agent Provocateur. Adding these might mean you have to adjust the deck a little to make those cards a little more relevant.
      Now, you aren't tied down to Amber/Amethyst either. So if we can't replace the draw engine Stitch provides, and we're looking for similar bomb drops of 3 lore to further support that win condition, Emerald is calling our name. As mentioned in the video, emerald is still a great color for fast, aggressive decks because of their 1-3 drop units, but also there are cards like Hans, Mad Hatter, and Kuzco who all have 3 lore, filling that role that Stitch was playing. You can also experiment with transitioning to emerald and focusing more on the aggro package over the Stitch package.
      As you get more Stitch's you can slot them in, making that part of your deck more consistent. And eventually if you want you can transition back to Amethyst, or stay in Emerald! The choice is yours!
      Sorry for the wall of text, but I loved this question and wanted to try to explain as best as I could through message. Hope it helps!

  • @ProphecyPhrase

    This is pure perfection. I'm starting the game tomorrow and picking up a starter deck before work.
    I was thinking of an Amethyst/Steel deck focused on Shift Dr. Facilier to reuse cards like the brooms to recover key cards or to put bad cards into the opponent's deck so they can brick. I was also thinking the draw 1 on enter Maleficent along with Friends from the Other Side for card draw. The reason I wanted to add Steel is to have access to a sweet removal package that my draw engine can dig into faster or for the brooms to put back into my deck to reuse.
    Or a basic Muana princess deck with Amber and Sapphire. It won't be great as I won't have anything from the main set. I am hoping to buy 2x Amber/Amethyst and 2x Sapphire/Steel decks to have a good starting foundation and to support my local game store.
    As someone who has only had 3 games from being taught by a friend, let me know what you all think of this idea.

    • @bsquared24
      @bsquared24  10 місяців тому

      I love all of those ideas and it sounds like you're on the right track! Just remember, win condition, ink curve, and test! Rarely is a deck perfect after the first version so don't be discouraged if it needs a little tweaking, you got this!

    netdecking is one of the worst things people can do, especially when they only learn 1-2 combos and need to call a judge during a tournamnet because they don't know a simple card interaction, use the deck idea as a skeleton and make it your own thing if you're going to net deck, that's how you ruin the fun and drive up the cost of cards, i'd honestly list it as a toxic trait to netdeck the top tier decks and just copy those so that way you can ruin the fun for everyone else

  • @eric315
    @eric315 10 місяців тому +2

    Netdecking kills every game, Players don't get any skills and learning how to build and make formats very boring please don't encourage that for this new game
