Mick Hucknall is phenomenal. He's in a league of his own and not only does he have tremendous command of his voice, but also imparts a lot of emotion to what he sings. But without the Stylistics as a precursor and inspiration, we wouldn't be enjoying Mick's interpretation of this song. Also, the falsetto was quite largely used in the 60's and 70's soul music, as well as in funk and disco. Smokey Robinson was a phenomenal singer who sang (and still sings) lots of soul hits in falsetto, and The Bee Gees were very successful employing that technique too, especially in the late 70's. Both Smokey Robinson and The Bee Gees sang heartfully enough to drive people to tears.
