Yeah I think if they tone down how much the strikes paint or add a downtime thing they did with missile that would help overall. Great discussion on the weapon though since it's kind of a double edge sword with the whole enabling aspect of the weapon.
So, increase the effectiveness of Special Power Up and Faster Special Up, and then create a universal cooldown and increase the points for Special count, and we should all be good?

Some of the recent weekend tournament streams, like Kyo's and Jared's, really highlighted a huge problem with this "strike zone spam" meta: it has absolutely _massive_ host advantage when playing NA vs JP games. You basically cannot paint over strikes to keep zone if you're not from the region hosting the game, but you can if you're hosting.
Honestly no. I get the idea but I feel like that just does the same thing strikes do into bubble, but this time into strikes. I don't like things that counter specials as hard as that.
Basicaly Neo Splash is picked with weapons that don't strugle to kill, but needs paint and displacement to get in. Stuff like .52 gal, rollers, squiffer, decav, squeezer. If the killing weapons need combo chip damage or don't strugle too much with paint, its better to pick other short-range shooters (except .52). Stuff like blasters, sloshers, splatanas. And if you need combo damage and strikes, pick T-tek.
If I had a nickel for every end game meta with a shooter that spams a area denial special, I would have two nickels, which is two too many. This is not me saying NSplash is on the same level as Kgal (not even close), just that we always appear to find our way back to this archetype of weapon.
I think the solution should be maybe 1. Cooldown (7-10 secs) 2. Revert the dmg buff (keeps object dmg) 3. And finally let it swim so it can be more fun to use I feel like overall these changes will make strike more fun to use and less annoying to fight.
Over time, I considered that every special should get a cooldown to charge the next one, similar to Tenta Missiles but can vary between specials. Having something like this would make things better or worse?
I think the problem is that some of the lower tier specials would really struggle under a nerf like that. We've already seen that adding a cool down to a mid tier special (Super Chumps) can really hurt it's usefulness. Though now imagine if Reefslider had a cool down, it's already bad, and now it just got worse.
@@Emaagination I can get that, but under that logic prolly would mean that every special is closer to each other since none are spammable anymore. Furthermore, Reef isn't considered bad atm tho, iirc it was above Inkjet in Chara's recent tier list. Again, that's why I said every special would have it's own cooldown since obv some are more spammable than others in this current time. I guess it will require a big rework for it so nerfing Tri Strikes just for them to have cooldown would be the safest option.
@ShinyQuasarDragon For the sake of special balance, having another stat to tweak would be nice, though I still think it handled poorly it could definitely hurt some of the weaker specials. I think in the world where every special has a cool down, maybe stuff like Super Chumps wouldn't have such an egregious cooldown. I just sometimes lack faith in the Splatoon devs to handle things properly
Specials that are very tied to their duration shouldn't have cool down (Crab, Zipcaster, Inkjet, Kraken). Everything else? I'm down. Even Zooka having a little 1 or 2 second cooldown would make it feel less spamy
>neo splash will get more strikes than any weapon can be special in the game Splashomatic can farm for special more than any shooter in general! the perfect accuracy allows for efficient coverage and minimal downtime from painting to reset RNG for a fight, it adds up quite quickly. I can't really argue it's a weak fighter either, but being a well-known pick that is defined by it's short range does cause some problems when it can't approach.
If I had a nickel for every time in the game’s lifespan where Splash was run a lot in meta during Drizzle Season I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
Since you didn't mention it, i assume you think it's impossible to balance the weapon. Its current state either makes it too much of a paint bot and changing it would either make it too weak, or too similar to ttek.
At least crab has counter play and the output takes a few seconds to charge up to full blast. It can clean up, but you can fight it. Strike feels a bit overtuned
Man it’s wild that we have a weapon that all of a sudden became really really good. I mean it was always decent but it really just became really insane all of a sudden.
Release flux was just s2 neo sploosh. It was definitely annoying but overtuned is the last way to describe what it was. It was a horrible weapon with a good special. The weapon had counterplay by just being completely worthless aside from its missiles. Splash while it loses to fighting weapons, it still has options to fight them and has a bomb to poke when it's not fighting. Its like how in s2 neo sploosh was annoying with missiles but kshot broke the games balance with missiles. One sacrifices everything else for annoying special spam and the other has annoying special to spam while sacrificing nothing.
Honestly as a person who likes playing support I really hope Neo Splash doesn't completely take over the role, especially since both Pencil and Neo Splash both in tantdem kinda make slower weapons near hell to play
Yeah it definitely should be 220p special and idk maybe a very slight paint nerf on top of that but tbh the main weapon is fine, just the special needs some nerfs. And then ttek would be 210p special And tbh at many levels of play, splash isn’t even all that bad of a fighter. It kills in 23 frames second compared to splattershot’s 21 frame kill time(both measured from starting by not shooting in humanoid form, which added 3 frames). yeah it doesn’t combo with 70 damage but it can make do in 1v1’s.

I’ve seen some absurd TriStrike numbers gotten with Neo Splash specifically (the max I’ve seen is **12**), but I think the other Strike weapons are guilty of this too. I understand the counterplay is to “just shoot the player throwing them”, but people almost always position themselves in spots where they’re not in the front line or an easy to reach location, and because they can be thrown fast, there also isn’t much time to actually get up close and kill them. It doesn’t help that they cheese Zones and Tower either, especially the latter considering how it’s pretty much the only guaranteed way to break Big Bubbler outside of Reefslider (Not counting Crab Tank or a well-placed Triple Splashdown as those moreso seem like soft counters). To me, TriStrike is one of the worst designed specials in the game because it does too much for too little effort and skill. If Killer Wail wasn’t in the game then it would probably be my least favorite special to fight, but they both have a similar issue of being too spammable
Is it just me who's completely okay with my neo splash kit? Out of every other weapon i love that one the most. Out of all the weapons I've tried out/actually went 3 stars with, i always end up going back to neo splash bc it's so fun. I don't have any gripes against it, i love it

Nerfing those specials hurts other weapons with the same special often more so than it hurts the shooter so why not finally tackle the real issue instead of constantly tip toeing around it while hoping nobody notices. Look at crab at release again. It was on 4 weapons: pro was considered one of the worst weapons in the game. l3 was a fine weapon that needed its later buffs but was still very rarely picked. dualies were a semi strong kitted weapon that were much harder to use with a higher skill requirement due to needing to play around its large endlag that just doesn't exist anymore, it wasn't bad but was nowhere near the top weapons. Then there was splash the undisputed best weapon in the game with nothing coming close except machine. So it had 2 bottom tiers, a mid tier (at best), and the best weapon in the game. What is really the deciding factor that made crab an issue in the early game? It's really easy to point out. I still completely believe that if l3 and splash kits were reversed splash still would have been the problem crab weapon.
