I like your point at the end of about "very little data" about other individuals, and therefore we mustn't judge. But we have a lot of data about the Sunnah (Hadiths and Sīra) ... and oh dear, where do we begin?

Faith is also not having to commit oneself to authoritative interpretations by others who do "have skin in the game", which is to control their masses because this continues the survival of their "profession". Believing in dogma is fine for an individual if that offers truth to them, but often the dogmatic are telling others what their truth should be, and this is basically the story of orthodox Sunni Islam(s), a grotesque enterprise of a very, very high order.

No way. You are hurting more than yourself if you drink! It’s not like you don’t hurt your family when drunk, or even others if driving. Drinking has big consequences! Drinking destroys marriages through abuse and cheating.

True. But in the Muslim world, back-biting and gossip are more prevalent. They have similar consequences as well. Wouldn’t you say?
