The opposite???? DONT you dare put a Porsche engine into a miata!!!! BUT VR6 like from your pretty blue R32 is ok. That would be cool: nice light roadster with one of the best sounding engines in the world.
Started to build a frame for my 1969 v.w wagon type 3 ! Narrowed c4 corvette rear suspension and front motor is 4.8 4speed m21 Muncie love what you have done real credit to you !!!
What impressed me the most was the majority of the work you performed by yourself. The build was not the most complicated but that doesn't take anything away from the effort and hours you had to put into completing the project. Nice job. Maybe Japanawagen might fit better, and was happy to see you didn't use the 73 bug for this project. Hope your thumb healed up nicely that was a bit nasty looking. You should be proud of yourself! Remember that anybody with money can own a Ferrari or Porshe but you crafted your car with your hands tools and skills or blind luck , but the fact is you did it, and im sure thats why the mechanics were so impressed with your axis powered station wagon.
I’ve been loathing the idea of installing my windshield. Seeing you do that solo with a ratchet strap inspires me! Amazing overall project and so much bigger than anything I’ll ever do. Keep pushing the envelope.
Pinstriping on patina. That was unexpected. Good job. As a newbie to my own restoration project, I am doing everything myself, and many times I have felt that same "I have no idea what I am doing" moment(s).
I'm glad you think so too! The alloy wheels were from a Scion iQ smart car and where only 5" wide, thats mainly why I chose them, but that didn't really help with tire clearance between the fender, plus they just didn't look right like I thought they would and I agree with you that the steelies look so much better.
Been a lot of fun watching this from start to finish. Just got back from a drive in the Molvo and hopefully we both get some miles on the FrankenCars this summer!
Love everything youve done in this conversion, including the diy fender flares. Didnt expect that to be as successful as it did, but hell, the mating of the two cars was truly amazing, so i shouldnt have been surprised. Wish you used the original miata wheels instead of those steels. Hated the chrome wheels, so glad that was dumped.
WOW! You've got a 1974 Honda CL200! I had one myself, it was my first motorcycle. Had i known it was a one year only model, I'd have kept it. Oh yeah, I'm a VeeDub guy too, my first car was a '67 Beetle.
ah wonderful! We had one of those vw's from 68 to 73 , also red, my 4 sisters had the back seat and I, well I had to sit on top of the engine in the back...
Dude! Thats MY car! My parents and I brought a 65 just like it back from Germany when it was only a year old. It had a white top too only it was actually painted on. Same shade of red. I took my drivers test in it bac in the States. I miss that car the most of all of them. Ours had a military issue USA license plate on it and a Eurostyle black and white oval USA sticker on the back. All I wish is that you could have used the original VW dashboard. Sure wish I could see it in person! This video was MADE FOR ME! Thanks..you are awesome!
You did a great job mixing these two cars together, the end result is really good ! Cool transformation, my Dad had a Squareback many years ago and taught me how to work on cars. Cheers from Texas
Love to see a local fella doing cool things like this. Thanks for doing your part to Keep Portland Weird! I'm doing a volvo wagon / chevy v8 engine swap, but a chassis swap is my NEXT project!
I gotta tell ya, for somebody flyin by the seat a his pants and bendin the rules as he goes, ya pulled off a damn fine landin with this project. Congrats Youngster!
Wow, I didn't know the wheel base was so similar between the squareback and the miata. Made for a very clean body swap. I love that you can tell the car didn't get all hacked apart to make it fit since all the patina is preserved. The only thing you can see is how you modified the fenders but that's nothing compared to how much work some body swaps take
normally would not like this, former 65 SB owner and a current 90 Miata owner, and a purist when it comes to these cars, but I'm actually ok with this. you did good.
I'm about to watch this video and then start the whole series for the second time, I watched it a few months ago, and it was great. I have a 70 squareback that i want to put on a shortened S10 chassis front engine (V8?) RWD. hopefully i can find the patience to record and put it on youtube also. thanks for the inspiration
Seeing what you went through to pull this off is inspiring stuff. I look forward to the new projects you have cooking and to the seeing that Squareback fender buttoned up. Really nice work Danny!
Have you considered just building a simple sheet aluminum race dash inside? You can make it bolt together. In fact, you can go to the scrap yard and find public road signs it could be constructed from. 😁
what a great story! awesome car it really turned out great. Your hard work paid off. I'm amazed you can daily drive this now! it would be absolutely super illegal in my country but I'm glad you get to enjoy the car you built for yourself!
i think your super beetle is a sports bug ….check serial numbers…it’s a limited addition beetle of that year…had many goodies such as anti sway bars, deep dish 914 steel wheels, parelli tires , ricarro seats, special steering wheel , etc…it came in that yellow and metallic blue…both had black bumpers and trim…no chrome
fantastic i love it ,this is old school rodding when you worked with what you had . you didnt buy a kit and bolt it on you made it as you went along .this is great work well done ,whats next for you ??
saw this on reddit and never thought it would happen
As a VW purist, and Miata enthusiast, I LOVE THIS!!! I have something similar planned, but kinda the opposite. Good on ya man.
M32? ND32?
The opposite???? DONT you dare put a Porsche engine into a miata!!!! BUT VR6 like from your pretty blue R32 is ok. That would be cool: nice light roadster with one of the best sounding engines in the world.
Charles put a Miata body on a bug pan!!

I am a 58 year old air-cooled guy from back then. You have done something very cool.
Very cool. I'm glad you put the steel wheels back on it. Looks so much better
Awesome job! It’s nice for others to see what can be accomplished with some ingenuity and hard work.
Saving a type 3 is a REAL accomplishment!!!GOOD JOB!!!!
I’ve been loathing the idea of installing my windshield. Seeing you do that solo with a ratchet strap inspires me! Amazing overall project and so much bigger than anything I’ll ever do. Keep pushing the envelope.
That is a lot of head scratching and math to figure this out, you have my full respect and admiration.
Astonishingly cool. The result and the fact you just went and did it. You're a star.
Pinstriping on patina. That was unexpected. Good job. As a newbie to my own restoration project, I am doing everything myself, and many times I have felt that same "I have no idea what I am doing" moment(s).
Probably my favourite body swap to date. 🇬🇧
Ohhhhhhh MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHAPEAU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done man! Your perseverance is inspiring.
Amazing build man, the steel wheels really made it all come together in the end. 👍🏻
I'm glad you think so too! Those of us that know, do, those of us that don't know. We watch you and get the inspired feeling .
Looks so coo with those black steelies. Rad project!
Very Cool Project, Turned out Good.
Cool project! I'm looking forward to seeing a Miata with VW parts right now xD
Been a lot of fun watching this from start to finish. Just got back from a drive in the Molvo and hopefully we both get some miles on the FrankenCars this summer!
You've been a big help! Thank you!
That looks way awesome. I can only imagine what it would look like with a custom paint job. But It looks awesome just like that too. God bless.

My first car was a Squareback, I'm just amazed at the love you've poured into this one. You're an artist.

I've thouroughly counted, and I can tell this is at least 73 different types of awesome.
This is an excelent build. Well done!

That was a huge undertaking for a 'back yard mechanic,' are you an engineer, great job and clever.

Have you considered just building a simple sheet aluminum race dash inside? You can make it bolt together. In fact, you can go to the scrap yard and find public road signs it could be constructed from. 😁
