  • I wanted to try something a little different and use voice over with pictures instead of a video. Please let me know what you think!

    For resistors I used 1/4W 470ohm for 9v-12v

    Excellent how to. I think the dimming switch works very well. You can have it bright in daylight and dim at night, best of both worlds.

      Thanks Derek! It ended up working fantastic.

    This was a good informative “how to” Dave…thanks for sharing it

    Great explanation Dave! I really like how you used resistors to dim the lights. This way you can dim them as much as you want. Someone mentioned WS just plug lights. They are great, but to dim them I have to crawl under the layout and turn a super small dial. Your solution, flickity flick! Love it.

      Thanks Mark! It was a fun project and I can't wait to add more.

    I like what you did here. Regardless of my skill in electronics, you made me feel like I could replicate that. Test test test!

    looks like a lot of work would be a lot easier to get the woodland scenic lighting boom done lol great video

      The only difference is making the terminal block with the resistors. Everything else would be about the same as getting a kit. Except this way is much cheaper. It would be more work for some people though. But at the end of the day it all depends on personal preference and what people are comfortable with. There is no wrong way to do it, as long as it works of course. Lol

      @@KerleyExpress I know. I definitely think that a kit like the just plug would be easier for most people. I guess I'm a bit biased since I enjoy wiring so much. I love it so much I guess I'm creating wiring projects. Lol

    i prefer a crimped spade terminal connector, i also use Waco and suit case connectors

      I use both of those when I do wiring in my cars. Very good alternative to the terminal strips.

    Good concept. Did those strips have built in resistors? Are the 470 Ohm wired as parallel pairs then in series for each brightness step?

    • @DaveCoTrains
      @DaveCoTrains  Рік тому

      Hi There, The strips do not have built in resistors in this case. Some of them can though. And yes, they are wired in pairs until I could get the brightness I wanted then wired them in series to allow me to switch between brightness settings.
