    Gary I'm glad you had your eyes wide open on the first deal. It amazes me everyday how hard people will work to scam someone. Glad all in all you're happy with your machine. Hope you're doing well.

    Thanks for the overview. I'll add my 2cents. I haven't ordered anything this large or expensive, but have done a bit of sea freight from China. Here's my recommendations:
    - If this is the first time purchasing, or high dollar, purchase through a website (Alibaba/paypal) that offers buyer protection, make sure any documents are captured in a chat in that website. All negotiated changes should be through that website. Alibaba makes it easy for the seller to update the purchase agreement. Make sure the purchase document states where the product will be delivered to (port).
    - Shipping, the method, who pays, etc should be stated in the agreement. Generally avoid "Ex-works" that means you are on the hook to get it from the manufacturer to the port in China. I always try to at least get FOB to the nearest port from the manufacturer.
    - Sea Freight - Freight forwarder/brokers - This may sound like an advertisement but generally I found most freight forwarders to be "death by a 1000s cuts" middle men, there's a charge for this document, some other random document, a dock fee, customs fees etc, the fees never end and your once reasonable quote is now inflated with a bunch of fees. I found that Kuehne + Nagel was the most transparent and easiest to deal with. Go to onlineservices.kuehne-nagel.com/, Simply enter your dimensions and weight, from port and to location (they call this the cosignee, ie the location that Gary picked up his laser) and you get an instant quote. You get one fee to pay. If you choose to have them clear customs, there is an additional flat rate fee (In Canada the fee is $150 CDN $110US). As an example to get 1 cubic meter shipped from China Guangzhou to Ottawa Canada is $280 CDN ($210US). That includes all costs, no dock fees, no document charges etc. Just pay customs clearance and any tax/duty. That includes the sea freight and then rail/truck. For me that would be sea freight from China to Vancouver, rail to Montreal, truck from Montreal to Ottawa. Then I just go to the local warehouse and pickup. You get tracking and they have a physical office in almost all cities of any size. Once they've cleared your package through customs you just go down to their office and pay the tax/duty. They then authorize release of your package, you go to the warehouse and pick it up. Done. No worrying about hidden charges.
    - Packaging - All wood/pallets need to marked as being treated/fumigated. Generally I much prefer that all wood packaging is plywood. When it is plywood it does not need these markings, as the manufacturing process kills anything. So try to insist on plywood pallets/crates. Get pictures before you send final payment. If they use whole wood pallets/crates and they are not marked correctly your shipment can be denied entry.
    Anyway thanks for sharing your process, and here's hoping no one else gets scammed.

      "Death by 1000 Cuts" is exactly right! My lathe cost more in fees after it arrived, than I paid to have it made for me.

    As a industry laser machine supplier from China, i'd like to say people get what they paid for.
    My suggestion is choose a professional company, choose a long term operation business, don't always look for cheap price.
    Some company may looks big, they just produce everything and what you want it may not actually from them or they just start this business.

    There are so many scams now. Glad you got it sorted out. Gary is that Laguna branded machine yours with branding?

    • @deepfriedectoplasm
      @deepfriedectoplasm 3 роки тому

      Hello Bill, I am a CNC 3D specialist and I am familiar with the Laguna Brand shown in the header for the Ninja Laser Header Facebook Group. I can tell you this, the Laguna Machine shown in the header is not the same as the machine Gary purchased. In China, there are many factories producing the various components needed for laser machines. Some are distributors that stock various large scale parts and components, and will "source" the overall parts to assemble a machine, and then sell to an end user....What makes Laguna stand out is that they have relationships with the best factories and custom source/develop and design their machines. As well, Laguna machines are meticulously enhanced or "upgraded" with quality parts/controllers from all over the world at their new Headquarters in Grand Prairie, TX. There's a lot of of enhancements that take place after the fact and should always be considered when buying a high quality production Fiber Laser. One thing is for sure, if you buy from Laguna, you can sleep at night knowing they will back anything they sell.

    I have to say that until the end, the entire video was frightening. From the original scam, to the real machine. You really didn’t know if the machine they showed going into the shipping container was yours, or even real. Same thing for the ship it was on. You didn’t really know that either, despite the forms they sent you. Until you saw it for yourself, it was all a matter of crossed fingers and toes.
    I’m relieved it all worked out, though we knew that before this video as we’ve seen it for a while now.

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  4 роки тому +1

      yes, you are right, and i thought about those things at the time. Usually scammers are too lazy to make something seem that real lol. I was not at all nervous about it because it was all under the protection of Alibaba. They have a really good reputation, just eBay and PayPal or erring on the side of the purchaser when settling any disputes.

    just want to give you a little advise when you buy machine from china
    there are companies that you can pay them 900 usd or less and the will check the machine before it is uploaded for shipping and they check every single piece from the electric wiring to every bolt and they ask you before what do you want them to check even they can bring metal and check the cutting quality of the machine you are getting and send you video and pics they also sign on every thing they checked and double check that it is the same machine at the day of shipping . it is easy and it is the safest for almost 900 usd you can sleep better
