    Hey Gary loved the longer video! I run a small welding/repair business in central Wisconsin and I like the way you broke down how you charge for your services! Most people don't know what it takes to run a company and being self employed means that your not rolling in money!

    Sanford and Son LOL I can remember watching that show with my Dad. Not sure on your forklift. Many years ago I worked at a masonry building supply, Cat diesel forklifts there outdoors heavy loads. I then worked at a grocery store, stand up electric forklift there indoors don't remember the brand of that lift I think it might have been a Hyster with Deka batteries. Both did the job they were asked to do, I was surprised with the electric lift. The dewars have a boil off rate even when you are not drawing any gas off of them, as they get older it gets worse. If you keep growing you might consider an outdoor dewar that your gas supplier refills.

    Question: When I am cutting UHMW or thin sheet metal with my waterjet it usually bows up in the middle of the sheet due to internal stresses in the material causing the material to touch the mixing tube and this blocks the sand flow and requires me to stop, clear the sand delivery system and then reset everything. This bow is often over 1 inch in height on a 4x8 sheet even if the material is submerged in water to reduce heat distortion.
    Why didn't your thin sheet stock bow up in the middle here ?

    On the forklift the most important thing for use is that it has full free lift.

    You’ve probably thought about all this but I just went through the process of buying a forklift for my home shop. I got the propane specifically because since I don’t run it every day if I go a couple weeks or months even I don’t need to worry about bad gas. I thought about battery at first but after more research most people sell them when the batteries go bad and they cost thousands to replace. People mentioned just using lead acid or something else but the battery is your main counterweight so your lift capacity will go way down.
    I got the pneumatic tires but even with those if you plan on going in dirt or rocks at all they get stuck bad almost immediately and their hard to get unstuck. If your mainly inside hour shop then pneumatic tires would be perfect for the occasional run out into hard packed dirt or something. If you want something that can get anywhere on your property then try and find a rough terrain forklift that hard preferably 4wd but at least larger rear tires. The normal warehouse ones are almost designed to get stuck, drive tires with open differential in the front, all the weight on tiny wheels in the back.
    Sorry for the long story but I just went though all this so hopefully it can help you out.

    Gary, look hard at just buying a good tractor with a loader. Get the fork lift and all attachments, like a finishing deck. I use my tractor to load/unload stuff all the time. You may have to get one without a canopy so it will fit in your shop. I also have a BX 25 series Kubota with forks, but that one is to small for heavy plate . Just thoughts.

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  4 роки тому

      Yes that's definitely a thought, i mentioned that in previous videos, the main issue i have is to get a tractor big enough to lift 5,000, it wont really fit in my shop. So was thinking just get a dedicated forklift then get a tractor later that meets my needs.

    • @cvmikeray2
      @cvmikeray2 4 роки тому

      @@turbocobra Yeah was thinking about the height vs weight thing, proly best to have separate machines if 5K lift is needed. As for the fork lift, hit some local actions. I'd like to have one, but worry my ground outside is to soft and would get stuck all the time.

    Regarding electric forklifts: I watch and download every machine shop and metal fab auction on bidspotter. Without change, batteries as a lot sell for $900 to $1050. I am pretty sure that is the standard core charge, and rebuilt batteries go from $4000 and up. Also, chargers are dirt cheap, new are $2000 and up, they have a new electronic way of charging/saving batteries that will massively prolong life. The forklifts go very cheap depending on hours. A new battery will cost more than a used battery forklift. You will spend 6-8k for good battery and new battery saver charger. You should factor that against the obvious simplicity of electric. You said not propane, but they can sit, start on a dime, are quiet, and no gunking fuel where you might take 6 months or more to use 1 tank. Just my observations.
    I love your channel BTW.
    I learn tons from it.
    Joe

    If it were me I would get lp or diesel, depending on what you find. Stick with big name old school style when buying used. I'd be hunting industrial auctions as well, thats where your resellers are getting them too. Parts availability would play into it for me too. I would run away screaming from Alibaba deals. Your fence along the back could be great advertising. Use some 4x8 plate between posts with artwork cut into it. You could get really creative. Thanks for sharing

  • @EarthshipFreedom

    I think that laser will put off quite a bit of infrared spectrum all around the tip. Check out styropyro last video, shows that.

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  4 роки тому +1

      Right, no doubt, not sure what point your making, but if you think it will do harm to a human, I don't see how. At .02" cut height, if you remove the oxygen or nitrogen pressure, it barely leaves a mark. At .5" height with full oxygen or nitrogen, if the focus is off more than .1", it will not even leave a mark, so there is no way in the world that standing 2 ft away that a stray laser beam without the presence of oxygen or nitrogen, plus a very precise focus will do any harm.

    • @EarthshipFreedom
      @EarthshipFreedom 4 роки тому

      @@turbocobra ok, i just thought it might be worth sharing since it was the first time I ever saw the unseen spectrum on a video. Love your vids Ramsey, keep em coming!!

    • @turbocobra
      @turbocobra  4 роки тому +1

      Right, the 1064nm is definitely the spectrum for cutting and can't be seen. What you can are the molten metal particles that have been cut and displaced. I know there are unknowns and fears about the random laser beams flying around and hitting things and people, but if you have ever spent anytime trying to get one to cut properly, you will realize just how accurate and close everything has to be to make it cut, now remove the cutting gas of someone standing 2 ft away, just don't see how it could do anything.

    I do not recommend you buy a Diesel forklift. Gasoline is handy. Propane are very popular, lots to choose from. One of the biggest things is the auto trans and torque converter. Many are abused and worn out, may operate OK when cold, then slip when warmed up. A 20-30 minute test drive-run time can reveal hidden issues.
