@@user-wl3ch8dm4s yeah prime 2s final boss was tricky as well as the boost guardian. I play all 3 prime games still with dolphin emulator, mouse and keyboard. A great modern way to experience the titles, and there’s HD graphics mods

Miles is adorable. His mention about wanting to chill at the loading screen and listen to the music. Same reaction I had as a kid loading The Guardian Legend for the first time marveling at the weird but perfectly composed music for the mood of the game. Amazing how music can set the tone such that you immediately know this is going to be a dark journey.

I remember that book…how nostalgic. Now details for everything is online and while that’s convenient, the lack of scarcity devalues it. And yeah, the music back then in games was very creative.

When my cousin and I were 14, we'd play Metroid consistently anytime we were out at our grandma's. We would take turns playing but on my turn, my cousin would draw the map out on typing paper, screen by screen. I miss those early days dearly now that I'm at the age of 51. It is cool to see you and your son playing Metroid together. He sounds like a very smart and articulate young man. Thanks for sharing this video.

I’m sure the idea was due to size constraints of the cartridge or system, but man, to utilize space like that, the backtracking and the way it never feels dull because of different abilities you acquire… the impact it’s had on games still to this day. I believe constrains with the right people breeds genuine ingenuity which still makes these games so immersive and why people will always play these games and love them.

Wow, that Nintendo Players guide brings back memories! It was like a bible. The original Metroid is a masterpiece. Very challenging, so many levels to explore, enemies, power-ups. There is a lot of strategy involved in certain spots and some of the enemies can be pesky to deal with. I think I beat it like 5, or 6 times in a row and each time the protagonist, Samus loses it's armor to reveal the character more. High replay value with this one. I fired it up a couple years ago when I got the NES mini and beat it again.

Hey Clayton, thanks for the video. I really enjoyed the discussion. It’s got me hyped to try out Metroid Prime again an and maybe some of the side scrollers. I started Prime twice and I couldn’t finish it because I stopped playing for too long and I was completely lost when I came back to it. I wasted hours going around the map trying to figure out what to do next and then had to move on with my life… that’s the main thing holding me back from jumping in again. Also I wanted to mention that I found your Channel a couple of months ago as a random algorithm recommendation. I also follow Redacted so I was surprised to see your face in a gaming channel but I think it’s an awesome thing you got going here and I applaud you for doing it. It looks like you were able to crack the code of the algorithm in your favor this time. 😅 Btw, your son Miles seems like a great kid. You can tell that you guys are doing a great job raising him. He’s a natural in front of the camera too! Cheers!

Your son should play Super Metroid next. It’s the quintessential Metroid experience IMO. The controls are a bit odd (you need to configure them to something that makes more sense to you) and there are definitely mechanics that might not appeal to a younger crowd (like having to bomb everything and everywhere to find items and secrets if you’re not using a guide), but I’ve always felt it’s the definitive way to play the Zebes adventure (full disclosure I’ve never played the original Metroid to completion ...).
Keep up the great work with the channel! P.S. What did you think of the Nintendo World Championships announcement?

Metroid has become one of my favourite video game franchises, and admittedly I have only played Dread and Metroid Prime. Dread got me hooked from the beginning to -almost- end (as I haven't beat it bc the final boss is quite difficult). Prime was my first Metroid game back in 2002/2003, getting me through 5th grade haha. Just got a 3DS so I will get Samus Returns eventually. Also what attracted me was I think the fact that the protagonist was a woman and the galactic/space theme.
Great father/son video. Keep it going! :)

omega pirate is insanely difficult, on the hardest level is nearly impossible; The summoned pirates are ten times more aggressive and hit like mini tanks, while omega recovers a lot quicker and acquires more damage to defeat him and causes a lot more damage as well....Actually on the hardest level every enemy hits ten times harder w/ increased aggression, having to be more methodical about my fight strategy; Omega is the hardest boss in the game besides ridley.

As I'm also a Metroid fan i would say if you wanted to play the 2-D games in order i would recommend 1st playing Metroid Zero missions before playing Super Metroid especially if you are going to skip the original Metroid on the NES system. Then 2nd play Samus returns on 3DS and then 3rd play Super Metroid and then 4th play Metroid Fusion and then 5th play Metroid Dread. Metroid other M on Wii takes place in between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. As far as the 2-D timeline goes. Thanks again for the fun Metroid video!

I was 7 when the original Metroid came out and used to play it at my friend's house before getting it myself. The "chorus" of the intro to the original Metroid is still my ringtone! ❤ SAMUS! OG Metriod was tuff as a kid and very confusing. You had to make maps with keys just to remember where you had been 😂. I've played them all and beat them with there various endings except for Other M. My fave Metriod is Prime without a doubt, the soundtracks are awsome and it was the first FPS in the Series and it still bangs today. I'm still playing Dread here and there but its not as bad ass as the Prime Series. ❤SAMUS ROCKS❤

Clayton, I have an idea of what Nintendo may be doing with switch 2 innovations. Would like your take? If the magnetically attacked joycons are real?, coupled with no ventilation in hand held mode as hinted by moore’s law is dead? Then Nintendo could imbed dual air intakes on sides of console where the new joycons connect hiding unsightly air intakes. And if they are remaking ocarina of time in 4k?, I imagine they will make it a two player game with link and Zelda playing in unison. Now imagine an open chamber on bottom portion of both joycons where the ir sensor was placed on right jouycon on original switch. If they have either heat sensor or new ir sensor within joycon cavity that can track flow and speed of air?, they could turn both joycons into digital wind instruments like an ocarina in order that two players could play duets to unlock puzzles in game together.? The possibility of a new back button would make this more feasible making it feel like an ocarina while tapping face buttons. This design would also work for ventilation when docked as it would allow for two tracks of air aiding in greater cooling towards large fan imbedded in dock. Not to mention it ascribed to overall design concept of switch. Male, female yin and Yang.
