Hi, I did exactly as you showed and the light didn't work and I got a little shock from touching the metal plate. I've got the yellow n green wire where you've put yours to the side the red going to the COM and the blue going to L2.
Your videos are very explanatory, I love the way you break it down. I would really like a video on how to change a plastic 2 way light socket for a 2 way metal dimmer please. Keep up the good work!
You won't believe this.... I replaced a plastic socket with a chrome one, with no earth connected. Had it for a year. Recently went to replace it with another chrome switch and tripped, multiple times!!! Just about to put plastic one back on for now. Great video!

Great explanation on how to stay safe and how to do a simple switch change, like I said in your video on how to change a socket your voltage indicator doesn’t have a self check function one of the kewtech models does, shorting out the probes on yours is simply to check the the battery is good, witch only power the LCD display, if you remove the battery the voltage indicator will still work but without the LCD you should really check it with a proving unit or on a none source such as a nearby socket or the incoming side of the main switch in the CU . Great video though . And great to see someone who can be bothered to use a lock off and carry out the safe isolation 👍 Well done 👍 Fantastic video 👍👍👍❤️

Hi, thanks for the video. Just wondering my earth wire is the same a currently around a screw. Can this be put directly into the switch rather than putting a connector on? Many thanks.
The back box should be earthed and then a link wire to the front plate. Thanks for watching and don't forget to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
Great video. Can I just ask is it the same process for those double sockets that also have the USB ports in them? If it is different, would you possibly consider doing a video on how to install those? Cheers, Leo

There should be an earth and if you are using metal fronts then the earth should be connected to that as well as the back box. If there is no earth wire at all contact an electrician because that is dangerous. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe 👍🏼
I did exactly as you showed and the light didn't work and I got a little shock from touching the metal plate. I've got the yellow n green wire where you've put yours to the side the red going to the COM and the blue going to L2.
What do I do if the plate at the back is metal and earthed and my new light switch is metal but there’s no second earth cable? Do I need to attach another earthing cable to the exiting one to screw into light switch or will it be okay because the actual metal plate at the back holding the wires is earthed? Currently changing my light switches and sockets and a bit stuck as there’s mixed opinions out there. Cheers
It would be best if you put a piece of earth wire from the back box to the switch plate. Thanks for watching and be sure to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
What would happen if you don’t Earth the metal switch cover? Also I bought intermediate one by mistake with two L1s and two L2s, do I just use L1 as common and L2 as the other one?
@@jamie123b I done it. I replaced a plastic plate with a chrome one, seemed to work for about a year. Went to replace it today with another chrome one, wired it in and it tripped a few times... luckily I wasn't blown away. Putting a plastic one back on for time being.
I have a question and wondering if anyone in the comments can help. I'm thinking about switching my own light switch to a chrome one, my electrics aren't labelled at the unit. Is it safe to just turn the whole electricity off with the red switch rather than flick every individual switch to see which is my downstairs lights?
I'm in the US and I'm not familiar with any of this. I didn't understand how the little clip with the lock on it protects the breaker from being switched on by someone. And how does that lock keep the screw from being removed by someone?
its a temporary measure to stop someone accidentally switching it on when your working on the circuit. if someone was desperate to kill you they could unscrew it, but thats not really the point.
Alex T thanks for your comment. The clip screws on to the switch so that it cannot be switched on, it won't move with the clip on. The lock 🔒 prevents the screwdriver being able to get to the head of the screw. Be sure to like, share and subscribe to help the channel out. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@spendtimesavemoneydiy Oh, thank you. Are you saying that the switch has a threaded hole in it, or that the clip is clamped onto the switch with screw pressure?

The black cable in this instance isn't a neutral, its a switch live. Also, you should have either cut that earth back, or at least tucked it into the earth sleeve.
