Great video! Can you do a video on how you do the taxes for collections, selling, shows, etc. Obviously not from an advisor perspective, but how you organize and track. Additionally, if you break a box and sell a card from there, how do you do taxes for that? Also my favorite card is the Anthony Davis :D
That spreadsheet is golden. I didnt' do this for a LONG time but do it now. Im shocked there's not better sites that do this for you. IN the TCG world there's sites that will do this stuff for you for as little as $3 a month
Great information on tracking the expenses. I keep a pretty in-depth spreadsheet myself for COMC sales and purchases. I really liked the 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken Error.
What is your tracking process after buying a lot containing hundreds or thousands of cards? Do you log everything into a spreadsheet and assign an arbitrary value to each card? I’ve bought some lots at some estate sales and am struggling with the best tracking process for profit and loss and tax purposes. Just not sure if every card needs to be logged.
I think a good video idea to go along with this would be pricing guide. For example you bought a /10 gold card for $100 and the last sold was $150 but they player started doing better and is getting more popular, would you then price it at 200 per say or would you match that 150 comp? This varies so much between individual cards and there is not a cookie cutter way to do it. Everyone is different but I know how I price and would like to hear your take and read comments from others if you do end up making a video over this, also the white sparkle pat friermuth was the best card in that lot :)
That does sound like a good idea. Also a big component is supply. If that gold sold a few months ago and you have the only one listed you can ask for more.
Amon ra was sick! Love the approach on Comc too. I may look to do that too here because the $2-5 cards aren't worth listing and shipping on eBay in my opinion.
Thank you for the information on spreadsheeting. Two questions: how do you assign an individual cost to each card when you buy a larger collection? Do you inventory all of your cards when you buy them or after they sell? Thank you.
Good Job on the Video Nick! I'm getting deeper and deeper into the hobby and could also use more information on spreadsheets! Especially ones that require formulas
When you buy a collection like that, do you split the COGS even between all the cards? Or how do you do that? What do you do when you don't have a receipt? I'm new to this, but have a crazy spreadsheet built out. I like the Amon Ra card! That was sick!
I try to split it even or to a certain price amount of cards. The spreadsheet is the best thing to keep track of something even if I don’t have a receipt
Really enjoyed this video and I'd like to work alongside with you kind of and learn everything. I need to learn this because I'm thinking of getting into doing a sports card shop online via ebay.
Momentum = Mass * Velocity. Time Value of Money. Keep those 2 things in mind and you can make it work whether dealing in relative penny stocks or big cards. For example the cards you send to COMC - if you look for cheap but good cards you maximize it. Cards you move to friends and family - works well because you know what they like and vice versa. Blowing out certain stuff? Time value of money. Why wait 6 months to get a small %. And sometimes - take the "L." Live money is better than dead money. See you at Ludex?
Agree. Only thing I'll note is I only setup at a handful of local shows now. When I'm travelling it's hard to fly with boxes in the lower end range. Yes, see you Saturday!
@StaknSports that's great! He was a pretty good player for the Nuggets in the late 80's. He's a little before my time, but looking back at the things he did only being 6'3" is pretty impressive.
yes.. ebay is still the king in selling buying online.. i use ebay all the time to seach things.. nothing else.. i do use a couple auction house but ebay is the king.. even those the others say they are the way to go.. sorry.. no ebay is the king still and think will always be...
This guy gives out the most basic of info doesn’t show anything except the brand names he works with who give him money for him mentioning them. This is an ad. This is not interesting in any way.

The issue I have with COMC is you have to pay upfront for the cards you send them. I would rather they take their fee after the card sells.
that downtown was pretty sick. Great buys, and great spreadsheet! Keep it up.
I love your channel it has so much great detailed information for new people trying to sell in the hobby.
Craigslist is by far the absolute best way to buy collections!!!! The 88 Donruss cards are beautiful…..

Some people use market movers but I just prefer the Spreadsheet honestly. I'd rather not spend the $15 a month and make it on my own
Good idea to trade the small cards into a big one then sell. This is why I watch you because I learn alot.
