Did I get Scammed by a Card Show Dealer?
It's been over a week since this happened, and I initially had no intention to address this on UA-cam. I appreciate all that reached out, I learned a valuable lesson and hope others can learn from this as well. People are acting like this is the end of the world when in reality, people have it so much worse than me. I will learn from this mistake and look forward to making more content again soon.
If you're ever looking to Buy or Sell cards check out my Instagram @StaknSports
If you're ever looking to sell your whole Sports card Collection email me @staknsell@gmail.com
I hope this clears the air.

    Tbh the biggest understanding ive come to know with sports cards is your setup. Gotta have a good setup, space, latop, etc.. Used to pile cards up here and there with no direction. With the right setup and a solid 7-10 hours a day you can get thru a million quicker than some think

    I love your content. But you say towards the end it is super easy to teach. I am techy but I am trying to get it to scan raw cards and when it's done scanning it's like 5x the size. I can't list this card like that lol. Can you explain how you scan single 3x4 cards?

    I wanted to build my personal "Top 10" before watching your video to see if we match opinions: 1) Price your Cards to move (sell) not to negotiate. 2) Bring Cash Change and also accept electronic payments (set up your swipe, zelle, pay pal, venmo, etc.) 3) Have an assistant, a second set of eyes for security and help with you to watch the table allow for bathroom breaks, companionship, etc. 4) Display aesthetically, don't stack cards or fan them out on top of each other if you can avoid it, it becomes sensory overload for buyers who walk by, not allowing the bait to catch attention of attendees. Be organized, cluster sports and players together. 5) Do not "flex" by having a stack of multiples of the same card for sale to show off what you own. That destroys impulse buys and encourages negotiation or not closing a deal to inspire comparison shopping. 6) Display securely to avoid shoplifter theft. Going back to 5) above, I once set up without any locking or glass cases and my ego had me display a dozen 1989 Score Football Barry Sanders RC's and also not adhering to 3) above, I was alone and helping a customer when the entire stack was swiped unbeknownst to me until it was too late. 7) Bring food and drinks, you might be stick behind the table or the convention might not have good food or food at all. 8) Take inventory if you can of what you brought and what you end up selling so you can have an accountable list of how well you did in sales (keeping in mind selling $10,000 isn't $10,000 profits because you should notate the actual cost you paid for any cards (hard to do if you bust packs to get singles 'tho). 9) If you do this routinely and it's not selling a collection to get out, then put a sign up stating "I buy, trade and sell" to bring in new merchandise as whatever strategy you have. 10) It's not a museum, don't bring high end cards you don't intend to sell that are priced pie in the sky. Also, try to bring "something for everyone" in terms of price points. Not necessarily the $1 bins that take up room and are heavy, but not everything should be $1,000+ or even $100+ unless that's really your niche and you've done well selling high end cards. So, that's what I anticipate hearing and seeing in your video... Now I'll "just press play" sit back and enjoy your video. Thanks in advance for posting it up!

    You did something called impulse buying, Dont feel bad we all do it. People buy cars they cant afford just for the emotional kick/high you did the same. What the Dealer did is called Passing the Buck, when they know something is wrong and try to hide the fact to get their money out of it. When you want something Badly control those emotions!!!!

    This is the problem with the hobby…HUGR PROBLEM… Cards shouldn’t be worth exactly what the last sale was, that should only be a guideline. They should be worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. PERIOD. ALT, EBay, and Card Ladder are GUIDELINES, not the end-all-be-all.

    Here is a major hint on buying any graded item. When it says authentic, it means it is so severely damaged it does not get a graded rating. Should have been an immediate flag and question on what that was. Also, buying it for almost half of the regular collectors' price is another. Some dealers are upfront on everything others are scammers in the industry. I remember years ago when autographs were literally getting to the point of almost 100% fakes showing up at shows and antiques dealers. The dealers were authenticating their own autographs with their own certificates of authority. Took companies like Beckett, CGC, Jsa to save that industry. Huge rings of individuals were arrested across the country. Now, it's pretty safe to get autographs since expensive ones are usually certified by a reputable company. Buyer beware on anything, especially if it's cheap. It also goes the other way around as well. People specifically targeting dealers who mismark an item and then prey on dealers that have not updated their inventory on current prices or never knew the price was that high. I have had that happen to me as well. Sold some comics that were worth ten times my asking price because I failed at the time to do the work on checking on current prices. In both cases, if the sellers are honest, as well as buyers being honest, this would stop. Bottom line if you are a buyer, you need to slow down and examine what you are buying and the dealers being up to date on pricing and being up front with major damage issues regardless if an item is graded.

    It's nice to hear both sides of the story I would have liked to have been there to see what the dealer said right away if he had just made that deal he damn well knows himself before he bought that huge collection he would have removed that sticker and like you said you learned the hard way cuz you just happened to be the perfect person in the only person that would not have taken the card out of the bag I would have immediately always look at my four corners, everything you told early snap decisions and not getting greedy but always doing a deal too fast you just fell refill into the trap even the dealer might have fell into but then you can find out right if he was the original purchaser on eBay

    I give you props for not naming the dealer. Regardless of whether or not he knew it was damaged is a mute point. You had the decency to stay true to your own morals and not just blaming him. It was your fault for not looking the card up and down. Front and back. Personally I would've tried to remove the sticker just to look at it in all its glory. He would've had more stickers. I think he knew something was up with it. A dealer will know the comps and anything and everything. But you said it yourself, you saw the card and got the high of getting it for a good deal. Something in my gut even tells me that the neighbor in the booth next to him knew something was up with the card too, that's why he was eyeing you so bad. Not that you we're trying to steal it but that you'd uncover the truth of the card in the first place is my guess. But lesson learned, even if it was the hard way and it hurt your pocket. Keep chasing my friend. Thanks for the video

    One other thing about the price sticker....he claims he got it 45ish minutes before selling to You so he would have paid 7500$(or whatever was on the previous sellers price sticker) because unless he can erase ink that original price from the previous seller would still be on it. Are You truly this blind or foolish not to see the scam son?!

    Dude You made some dumb mistakes like not noticing the authentic grade but no grade number, etc. Still though that slimeball, scumsucking, POS dealer knew 100%. We know this because of the price sticker placement and the asking price. If You do not out this scammer then You are just complicit in future scams by him, if he truly was innocent in this he would have refunded You 100% on the spot. Goddam you kids these days are perfect victims and it is just sad and pathetic...

    How do you not inspect a card before buying it? Especially with the amount of red flags. No number grade, red flag. Low asking price, red flag. Price tag covering corner, red flag. My 9 year old niece would have figured that out.

  • @TimmyPruitt166

    Your stupidity is why u got took! All u had to do was turn the card over, how in the hell did u not turn it over like 10 out of 10 people would do? Nobody commenting is going let someone leave with a card then buy it back after they did whatever to it, if u would then u are dumb too. This guy is saying anything to make him not look dumb, he said the dealer looked weird then changed it to i think he is a straight up guy. To the people crying about the sticker placement there was damage on both sides and this guy still didn't see the non-stickered side? Hell any dealer would have sold it after seeing him look at it then offer a above price thinking he saw at lest one side of the damage that u can clearly see heck his buddy seen it right away. Who don't look at both side before buying a $9k card?

  • @freedom8154

    • @therealtimmy13
      @therealtimmy13 2 місяці тому

      But you did minimal research on your own and avoided it. What a pro life hack: if you blindly rush through a too good to be true deal, you might get less than you expect. Greed got this guy. Not a shady seller. The seller misrepresented NOTHING. Even the sticker, which was placed to not kill potential interest (smart IMO), wasn’t permanent. If a buyer can’t spend 10 seconds eyeballing a card no one would grade A unless damaged, that’s on THEM Glad you avoided a crap truck, but you avoided it because you didn’t get blinded by greed and did minimal research FIRST

  • @bdm4life991
    @bdm4life991 2 місяці тому

    I just wish when I was this kid's age I had the money to spend $6500 on anything, much less a damaged card lol. On topic, the dealer should be banned. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing and it's why he listed the card at a "too good to be true" price AND covered the damage with the sticker. Also as others have mentioned, cards authenticated and not graded are usually a red flag. At the end of the day to spin some positivity on it, you learned a lesson (albeit an expensive one), are getting the information out there for others to beware of in the future and you have a story to tell.

    • @therealtimmy13
      @therealtimmy13 2 місяці тому

      It’s a HUGE red flag. And this guy was JUST buying it to flip themselves. The seller sold it as “Authentic”. The sticker is irrelevant. They definitely covered the damage. So? Was it sold without being able to inspect for 10 seconds? Was the sticker covering anything on the dog bite on the BACK? This flipper got burned because he got greedy and rushed through what he thought was a steal from someone else. He had no intention of keeping it. Which makes not taking 10 seconds to look at it first even more inexcusable. Glad he’s taking the L, because the vendor priced an Authentic fairly, negotiated LOWER, and did nothing wrong. Had he said “it’s mint” or “it’ll grade a 9 if you crack it” sure. But he didn’t misrepresent anything even IF he put a sticker on the front. Ignore red flags at your own peril. No one forced this guy to buy a card he thought he could flip. He bought an authentic Purdy NT. He got an authentic Purdy NT. There IS no scam.

    U don't go politely back to the vendor, u can clearly see with the placement of the sticker that he intentionally placed over the damage. Also, a card that good and when u first showed interest he didn't mention the he had just traded for the card 45 min. Earlier. In the end, it's your fault for moving too quick but at the end of the day, the vendor knew and was waiting for a kid just like u to make a thousand dollar mistake
