    Your channel is so awesome. Great interview! The last 3 years of my life have been a struggle to maintain a meditation practice. It helps so much, but it's easy to take for granted and tell yourself you don't have enough time.

      Thanks, Matt and Megha! Feeling is mutual.
      Try Dan's app and a local Insight Meditation course--might help make it a real habit.
      Cheers,
      Mike

    Great interview Mike - you should never worry about who you interview as you're literally the best health and wellness generalist in this entire field. The are a few people with very specialized expertise in particular areas (Peter Attia, Rhonda Patrick, Lustig) but even with them within their areas of expertise you're always asking the right questions.
    I just ordered Dan's new book. He certainly seems like an interesting guy. You missed an incredible opportunity to go viral thought. All you had to do was punch him when he said that he needs to eat a "healthy low-fat, low-salt meal". Maybe a punch and then one small kick when he was down -- definitely a globally viral move.... :)

    I always listen to Dan Harris when I have a chance to. The man is so articulate about something that is going on in your head that isn't easy accessible to even think about even for the person who's head it is

    My very young 36 year old girlfriend died this morning of a heart attack. She was really overweight and lactose intolerate. She ate everything. She said she wished I had been her mom, last year. No one expected this. My neighbor has Crohn's, cancer...doing chemo. My daughter is just clean of a year of cancer, her stepmom died last month of uterine cancer. I lost all but 2 homeowners on two blocks in 2014. Everybody is dying around me all the time! My other girlfriends brother is dying of cancer in Sandpoint ID, close to me in WA state. She is going to see him tomorrow to take her turn at caring for him. I have typed up his eulogy. I am sick from fasting as a type 1 diabetic. I went into keto acidosis. I am a raw vegan on the keto diet doing intermittent fasting. I've stopped fasting. I was walking half mile a day. I'm being tested for cortisol levels..waiting. Ketones were 15, urine sugar 500, blood sugar 240, ph 5.5...GFR 85...BP 140/75. higher than normal of 110/80. Only chronic pain has caused my BP to rise in the past and I only had pains shooting through my hands? So strange. I'm 67 years old.

    2 hours a day! Impressive. I’ve been meditating to varying degrees for several years. I have to admit that I saw the most benefits when I meditated for more time per day (like idk lets say 30-40 minutes rather than 10-20 min)

    Love Dan.. super open/honest/vulnerable and is so talented in articulating his mindfulness practice. I have been meditating on and off for a few years and this podcast is very helpful in motivating to start back and be consistent. I feel so much better when I am practicing each day (even if only for 10 minutes).

    Dan Harris' voice sounds a lot like Dan Pink's!
    Enjoyed hearing how mindfulness (focusing on one's breath), is a secular version of the Buddhist practice Vipassanā... while transcendental meditation (TM) or Vedic Meditation has it's origins from Hindu text and is practiced by repeating a mantra (typically a Sanskrit word)
    But what I would have loved to know is how Dan's app compares to the others in this space*... in terms of the type of meditation, type of person it works best on, etc.
    *Sam Harris (Waking Up) App? Kevin Rose Oak? Tim Ferriss Headspace? Calm? Simple Habit (Shark Tank)? Insight Timer? Buddify? Buteyko / Sealfit Box Breathing (Mark Divine)? Ziva Online? Omvana? Buddhanet Body Scan Audio? Dave Asprey's 40 Years of Zen? eMindful's MBSR? MindfulnessCDs? SounderSleep?

    I disagree when he said that this constant chatter is because of evolution or whatever. I'm saying this because in another interview you made with longevity, someone said that an older person said that before, the mind was calm and the body was working and now it's the opposite. I think this is because we just have a lot more stress currently and insecurities about our jobs and lives. You have to worry about a lot more. Before, if you had to work on a farm you just did that and knew it would still be there 20 years and you had a stable environment with your friends and family. Now almost everything is unstable, causes stress and as such, our minds worry about the future and that causes stress. I mean, it's just like staying on solid ground vs trying to balance yourself on a rope.

  • @robertalenrichter
    @robertalenrichter 6 років тому

    I'm perfectly aware of my physical state, the tensions therein, and have never had any difficulty observing my own mental chatter. But knowing that my body is tense in no way influences this in a useful way, nor is it a matter of "making better decisions", because it's not a conscious process. The better decision might be to try finding another form of meditation, one that will actually put me into a calmer state. This would be useful both at the time and as an anchor point, a mental/emotional reference later in the day...

    I have been meditating for 10 years. Osho, has taught me it, on UA-cam. It took me a year to realize how my ego causes unhappiness. Like he said, meditating doesn't completely remove negative thoughts.

    I used to practice Scientology with a group in LA . I remember the mantra, the box, the bell, the kneeling and chanting nä mā ō''' hō rāng gā q'. Once learned you can never forget it. I would rather do mindful meditate and just hummmm.. I also did Buddha research and woke up in Buddhas arms once looking at his HUGE teeth. You can only imagine the feeling of being in the womb that I had. So warm and safe from any harm...I tried for so long to deny it bcs I'm a Christian. I tried to go back there, and can't, but I remember. I understand panic disorder very well. I am a professional musician/singer. I do other jobs, but my parents were musicians. My ex husband used to fast for 10 days with a maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and purified water drink. We were in our 20s. He did transcendental meditation and could levitate.

      High Intensity Health I respect you, but ask yourself honestly... does this man's network, his PROFESSION accurately portray America's health? It's a national SCANDAL who supports/colors his programming. Refined flour commercials followed by pharmaceutical commercials followed by sugar commercials. How could you not ask about this? How could he not just pour his heart out to you WITHOUT you asking. His WHOLE career is reporting reality. He is part of the problem.

    • @akbarshoed
      @akbarshoed 6 років тому +1

      DolceArdore I'm "on about" meditation being explained by a horrible person. Dan Harris lies for a living. He overemphasizes the bad moments of good people. He's basically a demon, if you understand Eastern Orthodox spiritual warfare. It's a joke that he could teach meditation.

    • @akbarshoed
      @akbarshoed 6 років тому +2

      DolceArdore kindof. It's a little complicated. It's like how Americans don't believe in slavery, but we purchase iphones made by folks jumping out of windows in China. Whatever a journalist at ABC news is, they are certainly NOT accurately portraying reality, which for a reporter is a damnedable trait. I take it you don't follow Dan's career. At least you can tell by this interview Dan does not do what he teaches. He's a fraud. But in his world he thinks he should be applauded. He's the money guru teaching you how to become rich in the weekend seminar. Make sense?
