You don't know how much I love this. Since I was young, Vicky 2 use to captivate me so much that I was capable of starting a game the afternoon of a Friday and finding myself at 5-7 am of the Saturday discovering I had not even eating in straight 12 hours of playing, let alone thinking about sleep. With the years, I found out that Paradox soundtracks (i.e. also CK 2, EU) in general gave me that boost of focus -so much I became conditionated to them-, and now whenever I have to work on anything that requires a bunch of time and concentration I just put the playlist of any of those as I do whatever I have to do and so in a single night I'm capable of finish what normally would take some days.
I rode out on a bright May morning like a hero in a song, Looking for a place called England, trying to find where I belong. Couldn't find the old flood meadow or the house that I once knew; No trace of the little river or the garden where I grew. I saw town and I saw country, motorway and sink estate; Rich man in his rolling acres, poor man still outside the gate; Retail park and burger kingdom, prairie field and factory farm, Run by men who think that England's just a place to park their car. But as the train pulled from the station through the wastelands of despair From the corner of my eye a brightness filled the filthy air. Someone's grown a patch of sunflowers though the soil is sooty black, Marigolds and a few tomatoes right beside the railway track. Down behind the terraced houses, in between the concrete towers, Compost heaps and scarlet runners, secret gardens full of flowers. Meeta grows her scented roses right beneath the big jets' path. Bid a fortune for her garden-Eileen turns away and laughs. So rise up, George, and wake up, Arthur, time to rouse out from your sleep. Deck the horse with sea-green ribbons, drag the old sword from the deep. Hold the line for Dave and Daniel as they tunnel through the clay, While the oak in all its glory soaks up sun for one more day. Come all you at home with freedom whatever the land that gave you birth, There's room for you both root and branch as long as you love the English earth. Room for vole and room for orchid, room for all to grow and thrive; Just less room for the fat landowner on his arse in his four-wheel drive. For England is not flag or Empire, it is not money, it is not blood. It's limestone gorge and granite fell, it's Wealden clay and Severn mud, It's blackbird singing from the May tree, lark ascending through the scales, Robin watching from your spade and English earth beneath your nails. So here's two cheers for a place called England, sore abused but not yet dead; A Mr Harding sort of England hanging in there by a thread. Here's two cheers for the crazy diggers, now their hour shall come around; We shall plant the seed they saved us, common wealth and common ground.
This girl is from the game's cover page! Vic 3's cover page is probably my favorite one. Unlike other eras full of monarchs and generals, this game is about the people. the music for this game is a perfect representation on the victorian age. dark and yet still hopeful. the entire team designed this beautifully. so excited to see what they have come up with!!!
I've been waiting for this game for so long... Almost ten years... Finally, it is a few days before release... World outside my room is crazy: wars, viruses and wars again... May this game teach us that world could be a better place if we will come together to prosperity and happiness without bloody conflicts, but solving important and vital problems itellectually and cooperatively! Peace and love to everyone here!
Or that at the end of the day, for every wise or cooperative person there are a handful of others that live just to one up others. Either you suppress them, silence them, or let them taint your utopia. However a person fashions their utopia, it remains one for them and a small handful of others. For everyone else it is dystopian.
Something about the Victoria games fills me with such hope, I don't know how to describe it. Maybe because unlike other Paradox games Vicky doesn't fizzle out by the end - instead I feel like those last couple of decades as your nation matures into a modern society with all the requisite hopes and dreams attached, are the most exciting. I end every game of Victoria 2 feeling like no matter what, the future is ever-bright.
All's well until your economy absolutely smashes to the ground with face and starts digging even lower because you forgot to change your production focus from booze to food for 3 weeks

Nice to hear the Prince Albert adapted to Vicky 3, but I really wish we could get Royal March / Independent march later on. Those are The 2 songs that play in my head when I think about Victoria. A day at court is a close 3rd.
These tracks make me feel like a citizen of a steampunk/Victorian city who runs over the brick roofs and, having arrived on the highest one, watches the sun set over the factories, dreaming of exploring still unknown places on earth.
In love with the Ghibli aestethics. Remind me so much of their classic "steampunk" works, where the theme of the consecuences of industrialization in both the "political" sphere and the day to day life are a subtle theme.
19th century is underrepresented period. Not sure how it works abroad, but in my country all we got was "Yeah there were 2 uprisings, some industrial stuff, read one book that has 800 pages, but talks about romanticism, not the industry that much and now we move to interwar period" That's why I really love games like Anno 1800 or new Victoria, because they give you that feeling of growth. Wooden ships became made of metal, building raise from steel, farmers start using tractors, woman get rights, people are still able to explore the world, but now with flashy mdoern tech, elevators, planes, Alaska belonging to Russia, crazy stuff man. The socioeconomic changes in this period are far more interesting than 95% of history textbooks, change my mind.
This + the remastered Vicky 2 OST is such a W. My wish is that moving forward for DLCs we get era by era music to accentuate the stakes and pace of the late game (1900s+) and more regional conflict music (aka songs of the US Civil War, Ottoman Wars, Japanese expansion, or Russian Civil War).
