What a weird comment from Dustin. The current champion of the division publicly says he'll give him the next shot at the title, with zero shade or negativity involved. What goes through Dustin's head that makes him think the proper, or correct response is, "I've done more in this sport than he has." I like Dustin, but sometimes he's just so arrogant, and ignorant. Islam has the belt, and has defended it twice now, while Dustin has never had it.
Islam said Dustin does not deserve the title shot, and is basically only willing to fight him because there is no one else available to fight him since all the other contenders are booked. That doesn't sound like there is no shade or negativity there.

I think for the sake of the division, it's better for Islam to fight DP and then whoever was next in line, gets the shot. Not sure. I think Poirier did good, to my surprise, against BSD who is a very good grappler. I know Islam is not BSD but Poirier's defense in that fight somehow gives me some hope for an upset. Remember the last two fights for the belt, he came close of KO to Oliveira and even Nurmagomedov. If he can survive submission, Poirier can KO anyone in this category.

And a title eliminator between Gaethje and Arman Tsarukyan but of course that leaves Dustin without an opponent. The only other option would be a trilogy with Dustin and Justin for the BMF belt. Arman could face the winner of Islam/Charles 2 or rematch Gamrot in another title eliminator.

Poirier said he's done more, not achieved higher accolades. He's been active in the ufc trenches for way longer. Longevity, his highlight reel of iconic wars & knockout wins, more high profile fights, etc... I get his perspective. He's beaten several former champs & complete savages. Max, Eddie, Gaethje, McGregor, Chandler... Just a couple fights ago Islam was still unproven. I remember how many questions people had before the Dan Hooker fight. Hasn't been that many fights since then, but don't get me wrong Islam has undoubtedly done great for himself since.
Islam should be looking towards, and not away from a rematch with Oliveira, who defeated Poirier. And the rematch needs to take place in Oliveira's back yard instead of the cesspool of Abu Dhabi.
