There is actually some decent transit traffic through Auckland, mainly between Australia and North America, and to Pacific Islands. For Australis cities like Adelaide or even Perth, Auckland can be a suitable transit port with good connections and relatively straight-forward transit experience.
CZ has gotten way too expensive during peak these days. I remember 600 dollar return fares from Auckland to any Chinese city via Guangzhou back in 2016

Back then there was double daily flights year round, now its peak only. Also Cathay used to be as cheap back then
CZ international catering is very inconsistent
1065 nzd is way too much for an one way flight with an Chinese airline. I flew with Hainan off peak and I only paid 399 nzd
