    I’m more of a black and herb tea drinker, but I love genmaicha when I want diary free tea, awesome stuff. Also, it can give you a coffee note because of the roasted rice.

      Sencha green tea was the tea that pulled me away from coffee and I’m glad. I much rather prefer tea over coffee.

    I tried today for the first time and I love it. I’m not a fan of green tea because of its taste and I like to drink my tea plain (no honey, no sugar, etc). Genmaicha is perfect: I can enjoy drinking green tea without the bitter taste and, correct me if I’m wrong, it’s less caffeinated 💓

      Green tea should not taste bitter. You may be brewing it at a too high temperature.

    I just purchased my first order of Gyokuro Genmaicha from the channel's website. I'm looking for a tea to use for 24-36 hour fasting. I have a condition where I constantly have elevated ghrelin levels. I've recently learned that fasting will help control my caloric intake and Genmaicha is a perfect tea for assisting with keeping ghrelin levels down.

    Japanese word "Genmai" (玄米) ; means "BROWN" RICE
    (Possible translation connotation issue OR literal reference ? Not sure if the USE of word "brown" refers to the ROASTING process (ie ; toasted until brown) OR, the actual use of "BROWN" rice ? Not really sure. Connotation disconnect is COMMON when it comes to titles given to foods ;
    UK "chips" aka US "fries"
    UK "crisps" aka US "crackers"
    UK "biscuit" = U.S. "cookie"
    African "soup" = US "stew"
    Etc

    • @Nioteas
      @Nioteas  Рік тому +3

      yes it is brown as in cooked. The reason I know this is that you actually can't make it properly with brown rice because the starches are protected by a hull so they dont toast the right way

    (@1:39 "ONLY WHITE RICE is used???)
    Hello, I cannot help but take issue with what you are saying that Genmaicha is ONLY made with "white" rice, but not "brown" rice. I have purchased Genmaicha from Japanese markets AND in recent years at a U.S., Asian grocery chain store called 99 Ranch Market located in several states. I have been purchasing Genmaicha tea since 1982, and the ONLY variety I have ever seen has been made with ROASTED BROWN rice. Now, I realize that with any culture there are "regional" styles, differing cooking methods and differing ingredients used to prepare traditional foods, drinks, etc. So, I am not saying that this tea is NEVER prepared with "white" rice anywhere in Japan. I am saying the most COMMON variety of Genmaicha sold in Asian markets HERE is made with ROASTED BROWN rice. In my opinion, brown has a nuttier flavor than white rice, and that gives it much more flavor when it is roasted.
    Here is the type that I have purchased (and the only one seen at Asian markets here in the U.S.) all of my adult life. I live in So California which has one of the largest Asian population nationwide. If any Asian food us sold in the USA, you can certainly find it here.
    See these links ;
    Known as "BROWN rice tea" - Genmaicha is a Japanese specialty tea and is perhaps the most popular of all of the tea offerings from Japan.

    , a Japanese specialty, Genmaicha MEANS "BROWN rice tea." Green tea is blended with roasted, partially puffed rice giving it a toasty flavor.

      yes but I think brown rice could also refer to the toasted rice
