- DipDipDip Ice Cream just opened in Austin from the Tatsu-ya Group and its cones are two desserts in one! All of the ice creams are inspired by flavors popular in Japan like matcha, ube, and yuzu. First, you eat the toppings, then you grab a spoon and dig into the ice cream and crunchy cone, which is made with mochiko flour. You can find the shop at 7301 Burnet Rd #101 in Austin, Texas.

Japanese-Inspired Ice Creams Are Two Desserts In One | Line Around The Block
The term "UBE "is not Japanese. It's purple yam found in the Philippines and locals call it "UBE".
John to white people anywhere around that area is “Japanese”
Agreed!! NOT Japanese
John ikr
I’m half Japanese and I was like, huh, I’ve never heard of “ube” before as a Japanese thing...but then again not everything has to be Japanese just because most things are Japanese-inspired.
Ur god damn right xD for a sec i thought no one noticed that

Why do you people always do this just because some people eat doesnt mean that others cant eat it it thats like saying that potatoes are irish and only irish
MISTER, We don’t care if other people eat ube it’s just that they think it’s Japanese even though it’s Filipino. How would you feel if you own something, someone sells that item, and they get compliments about how wonderful it is? I mean, they should give credit where credit is due.
@@tsumimyun they aere not claiming its a traditional japanese flavor only that it is eaten in japan why would they need to disclose that it has its origins in the Philippines or do you also mention that ice cream is an european invention everytime you take a bite of your ube iceream
@@tsumimyun credit is due? you guys could take the credit, just make sure you don't end up looking hilarious in the process.
Lmao, when I heard that she said the Ube ice cream was Japanese, I straight went to the comment section.

Ube is Filipino!
Hey Insider, you've featured ube in your previous vids saying that's Filipino and now Japanese. Fact check, please! It's Filipino-inspired! Also, "ube" is the term for purple yam in the Philippines.
I cringed when she bit the bottom of that cone
Why lol
I didn’t I just thought she was stupid
Hey I wrote that comment before there was a pandemic lol

Teriyaki .. Marshmallows I'm perplexed yet curious 🤤
*UBE*
(Dioscorea alata), is indigenous to South east Asia, specifically grown in the Philippines.(as it is a TROPICAL root crop)
The term *Ube* came from Uvi (spanish), which means purple yam.
Pureed, and sweetened Ube, is called *Ube Jalagea*. In Tagalog regions it is *Ube halaya*, it can be eaten by itself, but it is usually used a base/topping for other filipino desserts.
It also flavors our infamous halo halo
Preach on brotha!
Statue Oppa when did halo halo become infamous lol I love that stuff
Ube is Filipino. I guess the producer thought she is referring to Okinawa purple potato. Or maybe the chefs used a local Japanese farmer harvested ube for them.
UBE IS FROM PHILIPPINES PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH MORE!!!
I love ube but didn't know the Japanese use it too. Or is that Okinawa sweet potato? Teriyaki marshmallows sound good
Avery the Cuban-American I think they’re confusing TARO to UBE but I’m not really sure.
its pretty cool
Ube is a Filipino thing not Japanese
Yeah. Maybe it's Taro and not Ube because I know for sure that Ube is a Filipino thing.
Theyre confusing purple sweet potato with ube
Ube is not Japanese, it is native in Southeast Asia... That might be Taro or Okinawa sweet potato though....
Ube is from my country the Philippines
FYI, taro root is also native to southeast asia, precisely in india, i think.
we just chucked a bunch of random things together and added a japanese sounding ingrediant aswell, japanese ice cream ye
imagine trying ice cream for a living
Growing up we always enjoy ube ice cream as a treat from my grandparents almost every week, seeing that it's starting to get recognition worldwide, UBE are amazing!
Brace yourself: Triggered peenoise in 3..2..
I was in car right in front of dip dip dip when this was filmed, my roommate went in to get her check and I turned to her and told her I recognize her from food insider on UA-cam, she had absolutely no clue what I was talking about. I just found it amazing that I saw it being filmed

So ube is a Filipino purple yam, BUT Okinawa is famous for their purple sweet potato, beni imo (technically in the morning glory family). I'm guessing the restaurant was aware but that food insider mistakenly assumed they meant ube when they said purple sweet potato.
Bright and sunny colors.
Ube is the Filipino word for the purple yam, but the purple yam is found in many countries... it’s not only Filipino, although it’s become popularized as so.
But the ingredient they used was okinawa sweet potato, not purple yam/ube..
@@raffyrafraffy They should have called it "Taro" or "Sweet Potato" in English term and not Ube lol

Won't be long before Japan makes octopus and seaweed flavoured ice cream
They do have the octopus flavor
Fingering Things
In fact, seaweed is used in certain ice creams for a thickening agent. And yes, octopus is an ice cream flavor as well :))
🤮
They already have, don't worry. But tbh, seaweed is a good thickener and octopus doesn't smell that fishy when cooked, so it's not actually that bad.

mhm :D
Ube is magnificent!!!!
Ube is from Philippines. Purple yam in english. Ube in our language.
Two of my favorite flavors and colors? Yes

I like UBE 😈❤🇵🇭
Just wanted for you to know, the flavor "Ube" is from Philippines.
For all those saying ube isn't japanese but from Philippines, for information they only said that ube was a popular flavor. They never implied that it was Japanese in anyway, just as when they mentioned blueberries it doesn't mean the blueberries themselves are Japanese... Please use a bit of logic.
SOOOO cool
that ube ice cream is unnaturally purple
This makes my Filipino blood *BOIL*
Who eats icecream on a waffle. Cone with a spoon !
Ube is more closely associated with Philippine cuisine.
*Yummy 🖤💜🖤*

They should do halo- halo flav and call it Japanese-inspired
Haha actually halo halo originated from Japan. The dessert was brought in when Japanese occupied the Philippines.

Y’all acting as if the Philippines invented purple yams, cause I hate to break it to ya but a lot of other countries eat it as well. Admittedly, you guys are very notorious for making multiple yummy desserts out of it though. So good on you 👌👏
