as a mh noob, i got into sns because i thought the shield would be a good defensive option for someone like me who’s still trying to learn the ropes. after a few googles, i was disheartened to see that blocking with the shield sucks. but this vid has enlightened me and showed me that there’s truly a way to make use of the part that’s literally IN THE NAME of the weapon itself. thanks :-)
I was just looking for a SnS tutorial. But I found this absolute gem of mastery! Great work! It does at least show how good Guard Slash can be. So, I thank you for that. I don't think I'll ever get this good but I'll certainly try! I'm just trying to learn every weapon to be at least competent with it. Swapping weapons keeps the game fresh and I find some weapons are easier to fight certain monsters than others.
keep in mind that embolden work well if you go solo quest. i tried playing online and the skill didn't activate as much since the skill only work if the monster targeting you. regardless embolden is really cool skill for me since i often use guard slash a lot.
i never go solo. and let me tell you, Embolden works just as well. you simply need to keep your eye on the monster when you see the notification that you've been *Emboldened by the flame of ambition. though you need to make sure you have enough health when that happens (i'm not one to risk when my health is below half) *i'm not apologizing for that pun.
i definitely have to consider using the Guard Slash, now. but i don't think i'll get the chance very often XD *edit:* nevermind! i pulled it off multiple times on multiplayer hunts against an Afflicted Rajang! and Guard Slashed Crimson Glow Valstrax's roar! i have max Guard and max Embolden(ed by the flame of ambition) mixed with max Guard Up... it works! (and i've finally completed my set! sorry, i had to get it out of my chest)

I’m trying to sort out a low investment build based on this with a budget talisman and few augments. By my estimation the skills would be the same as your except with a few less levels in some skills. This is probably what would change with a decent budget talisman and no augment: ATK+ lvl 4 Foray lvl 2 Burst lvl 2 Is that correct? Still seems pretty viable and it doesn’t take a ton of luck to get an extra level of one of those skills in augmenting.
@@jacktheomnithere2127 it’s not so bad with super recovery dango, maybe some gourmet fish. Especially in afflicted hunts, you’re constantly getting your health back from attacks 😎
The only explanation I can give is that guard 5 + embolden 3 and guard up 1 reduced the damage and able to block the attack, but I used guard point from guard slash here, and I think guard point reduced the damage even further, makes it possible to guard with 1 HP. Maybe if I did a normal guard im dead for sure
@@judaulul Only MR4 so embolden isn't available yet to me. But I guess U can focus on guard 5 and attack boost first? Yeah tbh guard slash I didn't really use so need to practice the timing. After a guard slash anything you normally do particularly? I see you also like to perfect rush a lot. And what kind of weapons do you aim for?
@@kead6636 you can use any weapons but once you get to the endgame you can use either Wroggi, gold rathian, or scorned magnamalo. If you're on a budget gold rathian is the best choice since it gives you +30% affinity for free and long sharpness with lv3 slots. Edit : tbh, if you're still that early don't invest on guard slash build tbh. Even guard 5 can't block heavy attacks. You need at least guard 5 + embolden 2. Since you're MR I suggest you just play around backhops, it's good enough
3:44 how did you not faint after guarding the beam at 1 health? rajang beam is unblockable by default and even with guard up lvl 3 it still only reduces attacks by 80%...
@@judaulul that still should let 20% dmg through, even zero knockback block moves like counter peak performance and guard edge do that (or, in your case since you only had 1 point in guard up: 70% damage)
@@CBeavr iirc guard silkbind skills have lower knockback/damage reduction than weapon movesets. I can guard slash the beam with 1 HP there but if I used metsu I think I'm dead, other than that I don't know and I'm not sure either
@@CBeavrguard slash does not act as a block or hyperarmor but rather as a counter. As it is a counter it will always completely nullify the damage received as long as you have the necessary skills (guard 5, embolden 3, guard up 1) to execute it.

The shield isn’t a guard tool it’s there so you can get you anger out after slash a bunch of times. Closest you can get to wrestling in MH

Sadly you can't. Guard 5 is not enough to reduce knockbacks from heavy attacks. Even guard 5 + guard up can't guard slash rathian's tail flip

Yep, and it enrages the monster faster which means faster activation for agitator that comes in with violet mizu armor

How did you survive Guarding the beam at 3:45? I thought only Guard up determined your chip damage for unblockable hits...

It's even better now, since you can get embolden from augments. For tips, just get your guard slash timing right, you'll get used to it

Go into settings and turn mounting to be only when sheathed

Someone did actually test it and they stack even when Guard 5. Apparently Guard can go up to 10 but you can only reach it with Guard 5 + Embolden 3.
