    I'm happy I watched your video. I had forgot that the painting itself had to cure for a couple of weeks. And satin is so hard to find, I'm happy with your tip about mixing matt and gloss. Thank you for the helpful tips !

    Very useful Clive Thankyou . By the way I'm sure The Range wouldn't mind you filming their products, after all you gave them a good enough plug ! I buy most of my art stuff there, they have good quality products at very reasonable prices.

    Thank you for this information. I have always wondered about varnishing acrylic paintings. Up until now I have used either gloss or matt glazing medium.

    I have really never varnished or done anyhting with my acrylic paintings once they are finished. I was recommended Krylon Crystal Clear acrylic Coating 1303. Do you think this would work ? The precautions sound really scary. Please, I would appreciate how to do this well.

    thank you so much for this video, so very informative, I love satin finish and have problems finding it, didn't realize I could mix my matt and gloss for same effect. Thank you. p.s. I thought your grand daughter's painting was lovely.

    Great to see you in a different setting. No need to apologize. "The Range" store is similar to our, "Home Depot" in America.
    I'm a little confused. You mention, "pre soaking" your brush. 1) What exactly did you pre soak your brush, in? 2) Why did you go over the first coating with Matte finish / varnish?
    Thanks for considering my questions.

    Sorry about all the questions, but I'm a slow learner, about the isolation coat is it necessary all the time, or just when using a removable varnish?

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  6 років тому

      Yes as it protects the painting as varnish can yellow over time then it can be removed with out damaging the painting in the old days they used egg white tempera to isolate the painting

    what are the alternatives for varnish? there's a paper that is applied instead of varnish to protect paintings but I don't know what that paper is called.

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  5 років тому

      Not to my knowledge but you can use pure acrylic resin as a varnish the paper is called parchment

    I purchased a some quart cans of varnish from the hardware store, called Cabot, is that an okay varnish to use on my paintings and pourings? The reason I ask is, the varnish's you're showing are crystal clear, what I bought has a yellowish tint. Thank you Clive.

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  7 років тому

      You need a water based varnish I not oils based but in either way you must put on an isolation coat first in the case of acrylic use pure gloss acrylic medium

    I have a question, Clive. Liquitex has a product called “ Gloss Meduim and Varnish”, and according to the bottle, it says “AcrylicPolymer Emulsion”. It also states that it “may be used as a final non-removable varnish for acrylic paintings”. Have you ever heard of or used it? Don’t really know if it’s any good, but was wondering about your opinion.thanks!

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  6 років тому

      All acrylic is polymer emulsion that’s the main ingredient in its raw form it’s called glazing medium or gloss medium it can be used as a clear coat on the final layer as a varnish there are so many uses for it I’ll explain in another lesson

    Do you ever use a sponge brush to varnish?

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  7 років тому

      No it can cause air bubbles in the varnish

  • @LS-yp5yj

    I have used min wax polyacrylic to varnish.....it is water based and simply cleans up with soap and water.

    Hi Clive, I am becoming an artist thanks to you, just a quick question, why not spray varnish?

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  7 років тому

      I don’t like it as it seems to attract the dust particles

    Hi Clive, is it possible to use a Polyurethane clear varnish? The reason I ask is because I have a few unopened tins left over :)

    • @CLIVE5ART
      @CLIVE5ART  9 років тому

      Dinky25 yes as long as its water based well i guess you can use oil based on acrylic too but you cant use water based on oil

    Thank so much for this so informative and useful tutorial! As english is not my mother tongue I did not hear for how long, how many hours we leave the varnish to dry before we put more varnish. Thank ever so much!
