Nah, that second cop coming in hard makes sense, the first cop staying low key while he's solo even though he knows it's going hard, is just smart, he's trying to keep things progressing, but not escalating any more than he absolutely has to for everyone's safety, he knows help is inbound, so there's no sense trying to force the interaction. When the second cop arrives, they know they can apply more focused force with less risk to everyone and once she's secured, then they have much better control over the situation. Despite the seemingly drastic differences in both cops' initial interactions with her, I think they both did exactly what they needed to in the changing context of the arrest, correctly prioritizing control and risk factors as they changed.

@@duhnay - Too true, on the surface it's funny as hell how much more that second cop is charged up compared to the first one, but yeah, I thought they tactically handled it exactly right in line with the changing circumstances of the arrest. Ultimately both were considering the safety of everyone involved, just once the second cop hit the scene, how to deal with that gets a lot more direct because they can then force the progression to a secure solution much more safely than with a single cop.

Preaching facts on how to deal with drunk people. Last time I had to, my mom was talking to a neighbor who was hammered, trying to reason with her. To be fair, I've known this lady since childhood, always had issues with mental illness that were undiagnosed and untreated. My grandma was a psychiatrist and her best guess was bipolar or something like that, but she wasn't sure since she'd never sat down with her. Long story short, my mom was frustrated after 15 minutes of trying, remembered I told her to call me the next time our neighbor got like that and I had her out the door in 15 seconds, accommodating for her unsteadiness but not letting her turn around to talk.
Drunk people are exactly like difficult horses in a sense. Firm, no-nonsense talk and action.

She already had severe foot damage that wasn't being operated on yet because she refused to quit smoking to satisfy the anesthesiologist, and then she had to be admitted for emergency surgery anyway to fix her hip. She's also recently become addicted to painkillers because of her foot (thanks a heap, opioid companies), and the woman is just a huge mess. She's the type to blame everyone but herself for things going wrong in her life, and thinks she's the victim because all of her friends and relatives have cut contact with her toxic ass. :/ She lives a miserable, lonely, unhappy and unhealthy life, and all I can wonder is how long before her crippled liver, tar-coated lungs, or other body malfunction finally takes her out. Because it seems like that's all she has to look forward to now. :(
