Hi Gary. Just found your channel so I'm a first timer. I love Stylecraft Special yarn. Being in the UK I have used it for a number of years. I get mine from Wool Warehouse, they ship overseas and have the full range of colours. They do all thicknesses of this brand. It comes out at about £2.20 per 100g ball. It knits and crochets up beautifully and is very soft for baby and adult alike.

Stylecraft has such a large selection of colors. Love it. Usually use a 3.5mm needle or hook when using this yarn, as I find it a rather thin 3 weight (my favorite weight) LOL Great book, love Rowan. Lovecraft is a hit or miss, specially for us Canadians.
Agreed on the thinner 3 weight for Stylecraft Special DK. Oh and also with your assessment of Lovecrafts - there' needs to be a really special sale for me to even look at the links in my newsletter I get from them.

Congratulations on the success and growth of your wonderful channel. I've been around since the early days and watched nearly all your videos. It's been a fun journey to share. I purchased a bunch of Stylecraft Special DK a few years ago to make some mosaic crochet afghans. The inexpensive cost and the huge range of colors made it a good choice for a large, colorful project like mine were. It does soften up as most value acrylics do in the wash. Wool Warehouse also has all or nearly all the available colors. I just shop around for the best deals at the time, if I want some for a project.

I didn't get any of the Stylecraft yarn when I was shopping at Lovecrafts. Their Paintbox yarn is the premium label and I'm working thru my stash of cotton. They had great deals, especially on the multiples bags, however finding the colours I wanted in stock was a bit of a challenge. Always tried to get to the free shipping mark - hence the stash. Take care from Winnipeg.

I agree with you Nancy on that assessment. I find I have to wait for a ridiculous sale with Lovecrafts so that the price point matches up with what other places are on the regular. I think there's some offset with a cheaper shipping for me though - as buying from Wool Warehouse there was some extra expense when it arrived into Canada.
Oh Gary what a great assortment of affordable yarn you got there. All those purples are calling for a beautiful blanket but than again, you always come out with beautiful patterns to test things out. Can’t wait to see the orange one in a project, looking forward to that. My family went back to Chile, I’m exhausted, all that running around left me with no time to enjoy my favourites vlogs, but now I’m back trying to catch up. OMG! Yes they are blueberry bushes. I have been doing so many little adventures these three weeks with guests that have stayed over. We visited a blueberry farm and ate their house made blueberry sundaes - that's where I took the footage.

I did use Wool Warehouse once before to purchase a few other DK brands - I had to pay extra on the Canadian side when it arrived. Not too bad - especially if the order is big enough.
I haven’t ordered from them for a few years now, but I didn’t have to pay anything extra when it got here. I got the cheaper shipping, but maybe I didn’t have a big enough order. We are also on opposite coasts so maybe that was a factor too?

The book was good value, the second pattern would make a nice vest top, Question: when you made the Postcards from the edge blanket what size hook did you use & how many rows on each square did you do, sorry that was 2 questions 😂. Hey Gary, thank you for this as the afghan I am looking into is all in this yarn as a bundle from the designer. I don’t think I will get this yarn as it looks dull and ‘crunchy’ not qualities I look for in a yarn, lol… I am going to try Brava from We Crochet for a poncho for my step granddaughter who is 2 so it has to be acrylic as it will be washed often. Have you tried this yarn? I will let you know how I liked it… take care my friend!
Hi Kevin! I have Brava sport in my collection, but not used (yet). It's soft to touch and with the colour I have, it's not crunchy like some of the Stylecraft colours I happened across in this order. Yes please do let me know how the Brava works up.

Thank you so much for the congrats. We are safe where I'm living from the fires. Air quality is poor, but it's nothing compared to what those who have been in harms way are going through. I thought the same thing about Lovecrafts being in the UK - but they have on their site a toggle switch to choose US or Canada currency, which then puts the order through to somewhere in Illinois. They must have an outlet for North America there.
I will be interested in your thoughts of Stylecraft Special DK vs Hobbii’s Amigo. I recently did a test, making a crochet scarf using the same stitch, and same number of foundation chains, and same hook size, to see which yarn I preferred. For me, then came very close to the same in feel and appearance. When I need acrylic DK for a project, it will probably come down to pricing at the time. Look forward to your thoughts.
Hi Denzel, that's such a wonderful experiment to take on. Especially if you need to work up a lot of things using a yarn that holds up well, feels nice and soft and has a great colour selection. I would be exactly like you - I'd buy whichever is on sale and in the colours I need.
@@urbanyarn I make winter scarves for a veteran’s charity, and they say it’s best if they are made of acrylics instead of natural fibers like wool, etc. Last year I sent 50+, and some caps as well.
In UK when Lovecrafts first started out they had really great affordable prices and offers on the Stylecraft Special yarns BUT once they started bringing in fancy big name designers and other crafts everything went done the river. I no longer purchase from them.
I feel the exact same way Ritax! It was only by chance I happened across this discount that made it reasonably priced like it sells else where. I wouldn't generally buy it from them without a sale - prices have definitely been marked up the last few years.

I purchased a bunch of Stylecraft Special DK a few years ago to make some mosaic crochet afghans. The inexpensive cost and the huge range of colors made it a good choice for a large, colorful project like mine were. It does soften up as most value acrylics do in the wash. Wool Warehouse also has all or nearly all the available colors. I just shop around for the best deals at the time, if I want some for a project.

I didn't get any of the Stylecraft yarn when I was shopping at Lovecrafts. Their Paintbox yarn is the premium label and I'm working thru my stash of cotton. They had great deals, especially on the multiples bags, however finding the colours I wanted in stock was a bit of a challenge. Always tried to get to the free shipping mark - hence the stash.

I agree with you Nancy on that assessment. I find I have to wait for a ridiculous sale with Lovecrafts so that the price point matches up with what other places are on the regular. I think there's some offset with a cheaper shipping for me though - as buying from Wool Warehouse there was some extra expense when it arrived into Canada.

OMG! Yes they are blueberry bushes. I have been doing so many little adventures these three weeks with guests that have stayed over. We visited a blueberry farm and ate their house made blueberry sundaes - that's where I took the footage.

Thank you so much for flagging the Wool Warehouse if I want more Stylecraft Special DK. I will most likely go that route next time. I did use Wool Warehouse once before to purchase a few other DK brands - I had to pay extra on the Canadian side when it arrived. Not too bad - especially if the order is big enough.
I haven’t ordered from them for a few years now, but I didn’t have to pay anything extra when it got here. I got the cheaper shipping, but maybe I didn’t have a big enough order. We are also on opposite coasts so maybe that was a factor too?

The book was good value, the second pattern would make a nice vest top,
Question: when you made the Postcards from the edge blanket what size hook did you use & how many rows on each square did you do, sorry that was 2 questions 😂.

Regarding your postcard squares questions - my hook size was a 3.5mm, 5 rounds and wet blocked to 5in X 5in squares.

Hey Gary, thank you for this as the afghan I am looking into is all in this yarn as a bundle from the designer. I don’t think I will get this yarn as it looks dull and ‘crunchy’ not qualities I look for in a yarn, lol… I am going to try Brava from We Crochet for a poncho for my step granddaughter who is 2 so it has to be acrylic as it will be washed often. Have you tried this yarn? I will let you know how I liked it… take care my friend!
Hi Kevin! I have Brava sport in my collection, but not used (yet). It's soft to touch and with the colour I have, it's not crunchy like some of the Stylecraft colours I happened across in this order. Yes please do let me know how the Brava works up.

We are safe where I'm living from the fires. Air quality is poor, but it's nothing compared to what those who have been in harms way are going through.
I thought the same thing about Lovecrafts being in the UK - but they have on their site a toggle switch to choose US or Canada currency, which then puts the order through to somewhere in Illinois. They must have an outlet for North America there.
I will be interested in your thoughts of Stylecraft Special DK vs Hobbii’s Amigo. I recently did a test, making a crochet scarf using the same stitch, and same number of foundation chains, and same hook size, to see which yarn I preferred. For me, then came very close to the same in feel and appearance. When I need acrylic DK for a project, it will probably come down to pricing at the time. Look forward to your thoughts.
Hi Denzel, that's such a wonderful experiment to take on. Especially if you need to work up a lot of things using a yarn that holds up well, feels nice and soft and has a great colour selection. I would be exactly like you - I'd buy whichever is on sale and in the colours I need.
@@urbanyarn I make winter scarves for a veteran’s charity, and they say it’s best if they are made of acrylics instead of natural fibers like wool, etc. Last year I sent 50+, and some caps as well.
In UK when Lovecrafts first started out they had really great affordable prices and offers on the Stylecraft Special yarns BUT once they started bringing in fancy big name designers and other crafts everything went done the river. I no longer purchase from them.
I feel the exact same way Ritax! It was only by chance I happened across this discount that made it reasonably priced like it sells else where. I wouldn't generally buy it from them without a sale - prices have definitely been marked up the last few years.
