Interesting fact about Uncle Iroh’s voice actor after Mako died. Greg Baldwin (Iroh’s second VA) always politely refuses to sing the song Leaves From The Vine at conventions because in his own words, “Leaves From The Vine is Mako’s song, not mine.”
bruh thats what I say. the last scene wasnt the bad part, it was all the weird music and the creepy vet and his parents getting taken. everything about the episode is traumatizing
The Tom and Jerry episode where both of them sit on the train tracks waiting for their death after both got their hearts broken has got to be the saddest thing in cartoons ever. You cannot tell me there is anything worse than that.
The Mothers Day episode in the Rugrats is heart wrenching. The thing that got me was how even after being told about his mum and what she wrote before she died, he was still oblivious to the concept of life and death, only ecstatic that he has a mother "in the trees and the clouds and in the wind".
That’s a healthy way for a toddler to understand death, I’m sure that’s why the show depicted it that way. It establishes the truth in a healthy way that he can grow into. He does still have a mother, in his heart and his family’s memory.
Back then, I don’t think Nickelodeon was allowed to actually say that someone died-on second thought, in the episode I Remember Melville, the babies mentioned several times that Chuckie’s pet bug Melville died.
I wholeheartedly agree! I Will Wait For You by Connie Francis is a huge selling point that makes Jurassic Bark the most emotionally powerful episode of Futurama. Honestly i can’t help but cry every time i watch it on dvd. #RIPSeymour 😢🐶🌹
I can't remember the episode but the one where fry "goes back in time" through his memories and spends time with his mother had me weeping. What I would give to speak to mine again
I know the episode because there’s a refrence to it in Fallout New Vegas’ Lonesome Road DLC, where if you have Wild Wasteland, you can find a fossilized dog called Seymour
seriously, that justice league unlimited scene should go up more, the moment she said "will you stay with me?" my heart crumbled, that scene has never failed to make me emotional
It's not that I disagree with Futurama's Jurassic Bark being at the top, but the fact that I agree with the list that I also have to go and cry for another 24 hours again because of how sad it was.
Because of my large amount of siblings, and because fire is a dumb, forgetful, dude who lost his family and constantly mentioned how his brother made life hell for him, luck of the frirish is more sad in my opinion. Also, there’s a comment in frie’s fantasy about life being a arcade game where he mentions that his brother used ot help mim defeat the final boss was heartwarming. 17:19
honorable mention: the hey arnold episode Arnold's Christmas, we learn about Mr Hyunh's backstory about giving up his daughter to a soldier on the last helicopter out of vietnam to save her life, then reuniting with her at the end
Heart of Ice is so sad; people wonder why do the villain do what they are doing, but in Victor Freeze’s case he wanted to save his wife from an illness.
The Wild Thornberrys gave us another tear-jerker: Forget Me Not. Rebecca's death was one of the few times I cried to a Nickelodeon show, the other being SpongeBob. Gary, Come Home made me sob so hard first time
The hardest part about Requiem is is that we literally see the impact on screen with the blade protruding at all. There may be no blood but we see the blade going through splinter which is one of the darkest moments I have ever witnessed in any animated show, kids or not
"Code of Hero" - Beast Wars I recall watching the reruns before school every morning and seeing this episode hit me hard. Hard to swallow feeling, teary eyed, and then having to push it aside to face the school day. "Life of Brian" - Family Guy Although in the back of my head I kept thinking they'd bring Brian back somehow, I couldn't help but shed a tear or two. "Mother Simpson" - The Simpsons I can't say I cried, but it was emotionally a lot to digest at once. "Jurassic Bark" - Futurama All the feels. Like holy guacamole I could not handle it. Honorable mention: "The Terror Beyond: Part 2" - Justice League When you take a one-note almost joke of a c-list villain and give them a tragic backstory as well as one of retribution, you have my attention. I was binging JL episodes on Netflix many years ago for a few back to back to back days and when Solomon Grundy sacrificed himself plus the funeral scene at the end with Hawk Girl deliverying the eulogy at the end played, I was in TEARS. I couldn't even play the next episode. There's an episode down the road in the Unlimited continuation of JL where his body is resurrected and Hawk Girl puts him, essentially her friend, down. It didn't make me cry, but I definitely needed a few minutes to stop and breathe after.
Mother Simpson and the following episodes with Mona was incredibly sad. Particularly when (spoiler alert) she passes just as Homer was gonna say sorry for being mad at her. 😢
I knew that the Seymour episode would be #1 before clicking! Batman comforting a dying Ace hits even more once you consider that he named his dog after her.
I can understand how sad the mother's day episode of Rugrats is but to me, the saddest episode has to be 'I remember Melville' where we see Chuckie suffer the loss of his pet bug Melville and the stages of grief he goes through. I can never watch this episode without tearing up as it's so heartbreaking seeing Chuckie actually go through such a sad moment in his life.

I think there are three that you didn't mention, but really needed to be on this list, and a reason why honorable mentions was especially needed for this top 20: The first one is that episode from Tom and Jerry which's name I unfortunately forgot, the one all about Tom's flashbacks on how he tried to impress a lady cat but miserably failed. And that ending scene, man... The horror it brought to me as a 5-year old watching the episode could not be understated. The other one is finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Other ones I can excuse, but this one I straight up can not, because you have covered this series _multiple times._ Seriously, not only it is one of the saddest episodes of any Animated Series ever created, it also elevates the OG Order 66 scene from Revenge of the Sith, because you got to know all the characters that got brutally assassinated throughout the runtime of the series, not to mention the ''soulless'' killers that turned against their masters as well. And the final one... Do I even need to say it? It's obviously The Hardest Thing, from Amphibia. I got genuinely baffled on how this one wasn't included on the list, for it is one of the only pieces of cinematic content, together with the ending scene of The Iron Giant, that managed to make tear me up a bit. I won't even dare to spoil a thing about this magnificent finale, because it needs to be experienced by oneself to be fully appreciated. I agree with most of them in the list. But what about blue cat blues from tom and jerry. One cannot forget that final track scene. Also it shows us that emotional pain hurted the duo more than than the physical pain.
She does. I watched the entire seasons of Steven Universe. Pearl went through so much with Rose aka Pink Diamond. I can’t imagine the heartache she did to fake Pink Diamond’s shattering
Pink made Pearl feel like her own being for the first time, but unfortunately she didn’t care enough to realize that made her Pearl’s whole world. Maybe none of them were familiar enough with emotions to know how careless they were being with themselves and each other.
I can’t decide which King of the Hill episode is worth getting an honorable mention. The episode were Bill gets so depressed around Christmas over Lenor leaving, that he eats the Hills every night, adopts an iguana and names it Lenor, attempts suicide, and starts to act like he is Lenor. The episode were Bobby falls in love with a girl named Marie, only to have her crush his heart, that they aren’t in a romantic relationship. The episode Boomhauer falls in love and wants to marry a woman, only to discover she is just like him. Someone who sleeps with other men and dumps them. Or were Cotton Hill is struggling to support DeeDee and GH and it’s costing him marching in Veterans Day parade.
One thing that makes me feel sad is when Bunny from Powerpuff Girls was living temporarily, and exploded after saving the three adorable girls from being pummeled.
I was thinking of the Bunny PPG episode too! While kid me didn't cry, adult me did. I probably realized what actually happened then. Kid me was just here for the show, didn't realize the hints of gore and blood then. Or the rather gross close ups from certain episodes, lol. Now I notice. XD
I lost my mother to a car accident when I just turned 13 in 1997 and her wake was on Mother’s Day. Even though it’s been over 25 years it still feels like the day I lost her. I was then hit by a brain tumor in 2009 and thankfully my little one was born and saved my life from self destruction later that year. He has helped me through every darkest time I’ve endured and I’m so blessed to have him with me.
Dinobot's death got me as he was my favourite character in Beast Wars and Optimus' words "he lived a warrior, he died a hero" are etched in my brain to this day.
Honestly, as one of the many people who get weirdly depressed around Christmas, Charlie Brown's Christmas always spoke to me on a personal level. It's always heart-wrenching when he describes it as "Not feeling how I'm SUPPOSED to feel". Because it just drives home how many people with mental illness are expected to act or feel happy; even during times when we're just trying to hang on and get through the next few hours. It also points out that things like commercialism totally ruins the holiday vibe.
Yep, Jurassic Bark definitely deserves to be number 1. I still can't watch that episode. I'm not even gonna watch that segment of this video. I just can't.
Thundercats(2011) remake has a great episode called The song of the Petalars. It is very emotional and impactful. Sad that the show got cancelled. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
The Gravity Falls finale was and is iconic. It has horror, comedy, and tragitty all mixed into one. It was a perfectly executed display of the weird and the wacky that the show was. A perfect way to end an absolutely incredible series.
All of these episodes have had time to marinate in sadness. But I would have loved to see a mention of Coven Of The Dammed from Gendy Tartakovky's Primal.
Eda finally accepting the presence of her curse and comforting the entity in The Owl House will always leave me in tears. The fact that she was able to turn something that caused so much fear and trauma into something great was just such a powerful and bittersweet moment. I'm really hoping that it's on this list, given that I haven't finished the video yet. Edit: I'm super bummed that it wasn't included, TOH is so underrated :c
I'm honestly surprised they picked the Christmas episode to represent Charlie Brown when there was a Charlie Brown story about a girl suffering from Leukemia. Other sad episodes not on this list include "Forget Me Not" from the Wild Thornberrys, an elephant that was close to Eliza and her father passes away. "Edge of the World" from The Owl House, King thinks he's found his family, only to realize he's the last of his kind. and "Cookie Chomper" from Alvin and the Chipmunks, the boys find a stray cat, adopt him, love him, and watch him die.
Here are some honorable mentions: - The Return of Hydro-Man: Part 2 (Spiderman: TAS) - Graduation Day (X-Men: TAS) - Twisted Sister (The Powerpuff Girls (1998)) - Forget Me Not (The Wild Thornberrys) - Apokolips... Now!: Part 2 (Superman: TAS)
Without watching I already know number one is Jaurassic Bark. I can’t even explain the episode to people without crying. Second should be Game of Tones.
Even if Courage didn't know, his parents weren't technically murdered as they appear alive on whatever alien planet the vet is sent to, along with all the other dogs who proceed to beat him up
Iroh first helps out a child, then a teenager and lastly an adult before arriving at his destination. He got to have a second chance through the lives of those who needed him in every phase of life Wiser, better. He became everything he wanted to be as a father and gave it to who needed most because he couldn't give it to his son

I’m so pissed about the fact that they mention Jurassic Bark so much in “Saddest Scenes” but *never* mention the ending scene of that episode where it was revealed he waited for Fry to return
The episode with Marcelline and Ice King makes me cry without even seeing the whole thing. Marcelline’s whole story expands the world in a really deep way.
Futurama is one of my favorite shows, but I do not have it in me to ever watch "Jurassic Bark" again. I couldn't watch it until I saw "Bender's Big Score," and I knew there was a duplicate of Fry to live with Seymour. Even so, I cried my eyes out when I saw the episode, this is no doubt the number 1 saddest episode.
That Futurama episode always gets to me. The last few minutes is just tear jerking seeing Seymour wait in that spot until his death, us knowing Fry will not return.
I love the episode where peter makes a eulogy for carrie fisher(angela his boss) where at the end he said “i might loss a boss but heaven gained a princess” talking about the role she played as leia. I cried when I watched that

@@nevaehhamilton3493 yes that is sad but true.
Rose’s Scabbard broke my heart. Pearl deserved so much better than what she got, and the love she had for Rose was truly unmatched.
@@BunnyQueen97 This. Gems truly didn’t know how to be human.
@MeltedVelveeta CheeseSauce Pearl will always have a soft spot in my heart.
don't forget the steven universe future movie
Futurama: Jurassic Bark what's truly sad is Fry never learns how loyal Seymour was or how long he waited for him. 🐕
The episodes regarding Buckley's passing even hurts
The one where Buckley’s angel start jumping on the trampoline
Top Ten Saddest Plot Twists Ever
Alice is Masquerade Bakugan Battle Brawlers.
Great idea
Stan pushed his brother away
The rugrats episode made everyone in my family cry when we watched it.
Glad to see other folks remember Dinobot's heroic final stand.
Dinobot's was combat sad fought it out won but still didn't make it combat sad earned a spot up there.
I always found luck of the fryish more upsetting tbh. I wasn't good to my brother when I was younger and I feel terrible to this day about it
I always cry at that episode where Chuckie finally knows his mom.
You forgot the saddest part of number 1, where his dog is just waiting outside the pizza shop for years.
Just like Haichi did at the train station
Are we going to see more episodes like these in the future? Which one of these episodes do you think is the most depressing?
Lmbo
In the Simpsons, the heartbreaking episodes were Round Springfield and Season 11 episode 14 because of Bleeding Gums Murphy’s and Maude’s deaths
Maude’s death wasn’t sad to me.
“Oh look a bobbie pin.”
The writers kinda gave her the finger.
Lowkey Life of Bart is sad to
Thank goodness they didn't show Seymore waiting by the door aging to the point he's old. That's the real gut puncher!
One thing that makes me feel sad is when Bunny from Powerpuff Girls was living temporarily, and exploded after saving the three adorable girls from being pummeled.
Lmbo. I guess it could have been a little sad.
XD
the scene where bunny popped is terrifying.
"Leaves from the vine" makes me cry EVERY time
Same. 😭😭😭💔💔💔
Vine*
it's vine dude.... smh
Sometimes it's good to happy cry and these shows proved it.
Jeez that Ninjago season 3 finale was gut wrenching seeing a beloved character sacrifice himself to save his friends and then cut to his funeral.
This whole list was sad but the one show that actually made me cry was Ninjago when Nya turned into the sea and left
The only time I have ever cried during a TV show.
My first girlfriend turned into the sea.
That's rough, buddy.
@@chickensandwich1432 it'll go down as one of the most underrated cartoons ever.
NINJAGO IS NOT UNDER RATED
Also zanes sacrifice was the only thing that can make me cry and zanes death was in the extra 2
The Color Ruckus From The Boondocks the story behind Uncle Ruckus's self bigotry is a heartbreaking one at best great job Aaron McGruder
If Jurassic Bark wasn’t where it was I would have quit. Just hearing the episodes name gets be bawling my eyes out.
"Heart of Ice" was the first time I felt extremely sorry for an animated villain.
Yeah same here. The two other villains in Batman TAS where I had compassion for when I saw what they were undergoing, are Baby Doll and Two-Face.
Ditto. The poor devil just wanted to heal his wife.
Zane’s death broke me when I was a kid. He was my favorite
Didn't he come back tho?
@@dereklednicky8590 I think so
Thundercats(2011) remake has a great episode called The song of the Petalars. It is very emotional and impactful. Sad that the show got cancelled. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
I’d add the Samurai Jack episode when he finds the ruins of his home.
Or worse, the ending of the last episode of season 5 and the serie as a whole. 😢
Batman has a heart of pure gold 🥹
R.I.P Ace

Let his spark join the Matrix. The greatest of Cybertron.
I've seen Futurama countless times, but it was several years before I could watch Jurassic Bark again. I was an absolute mess.
I think the Christmas special is more well known.
I didn’t even think about the girl with leukemia until you mentioned it.
Finally someone mentions The Owl House
Charlie Brown Christmas is more emotional than sad. I agree, "Why Charlie Brown, Why?" Is the better choice for this list.
i believe the Charlie Brown one was called snoopy come home.
@@dawg065 "Why Charlie Brown, Why?"
"Snoopy Come Home" also had a girl in the hospital but it was totally different.
Was gonna say. Dinobot's sacrifice hit me in the feels
His Sacrifice in Kingdom made me saddened when he said Maybe and please help me
Here are some honorable mentions:
- The Return of Hydro-Man: Part 2 (Spiderman: TAS)
- Graduation Day (X-Men: TAS)
- Twisted Sister (The Powerpuff Girls (1998))
- Forget Me Not (The Wild Thornberrys)
- Apokolips... Now!: Part 2 (Superman: TAS)
Man the Rugrats mother's day special still tears me apart 😭
Without watching I already know number one is Jaurassic Bark. I can’t even explain the episode to people without crying. Second should be Game of Tones.
Even if Courage didn't know, his parents weren't technically murdered as they appear alive on whatever alien planet the vet is sent to, along with all the other dogs who proceed to beat him up
Some classics in there 💯
For me, the most heartbreaking animated episode was Phineas and Ferb’s “Act Your Age”. I still bawl at “What Might Have Been”.
There will never be a Transformers episode like Code of Hero ever again.
Iroh first helps out a child, then a teenager and lastly an adult before arriving at his destination. He got to have a second chance through the lives of those who needed him in every phase of life
Wiser, better. He became everything he wanted to be as a father and gave it to who needed most because he couldn't give it to his son

*Understanding Willow,Agony Of A Witch,Echoes Of The Past,Yesterday's Lie,Reaching Out,Hollow Mind,Edge Of The World and King's Tide(The Owl House)
*Ozzie's(Helluva Boss)
Justice league unlimited and Batman the animated series had some heart breaking moments
I’m so pissed about the fact that they mention Jurassic Bark so much in “Saddest Scenes” but *never* mention the ending scene of that episode where it was revealed he waited for Fry to return
If you know what happened there’s no reason to be pissed.
It's so sad, they can't even bring themselves to say it.
The episode with Marcelline and Ice King makes me cry without even seeing the whole thing. Marcelline’s whole story expands the world in a really deep way.
14:47. He always comes back and resurrects himself. Kenny is immortal
Also, how is a Charlie Brown Christmas sad? It has a good ending!
Exactly! That made no sense. That wasn't even so much an episode in a TV series as much as it was a holiday special.
The Futurama episode where Fry appears in his Mothers dreams is a very touching and emotional scene. Its hard not to shed a tear in that scene.
13:54 excuse no way this is number 7. Just how could you there's nothing depressing than this episode

Zane sacrificing himself was so sad
Fry hugging his mom on futurama
Life with Louie: Louie Learns his Grandmother died.
That Futurama episode always gets to me. The last few minutes is just tear jerking seeing Seymour wait in that spot until his death, us knowing Fry will not return.
Star Wars The Clone Wars: The Wrong Jedi. Star Wars The Clone Wars: Victory and Death. Cried during both finales mostly due to the music.
Camping from Bluey deserves a mention. That episode will destroy anyone who had to say goodbye to a childhood friend.
Life of Brian has ABSOLUTELY no business being on this list.

they were fighting against Shredder's goons, not the Mighty Mutanimals. The Mighty Mutanimals were the turtle's allies.

The ending to Amphibia's season 2 episode 'Hopping Mall' had gotten me tearing up
