      Great story. Makes me feel for those who waited for freedom in certain areas to only then be occupied by Russian/Soviet Ally forces.

    My great uncle fought in North Africa against Rommel’s Desert rats. He was a tank crew member. He had to wear overalls despite the hot temperatures. One night he had to relive himself, so he went outside. A german rifleman tried to take a shot at him, ungentlemanly on the German, so my uncle grabbed his overalls and run back to the tank for cover. After catching his breath, he found out his overalls stunk of his feces. He had to sleep outside until he got a replacement overalls

      @@mygreywolf The fact that you even know the word "Mensa" is mind boggling, considering the fact that you are unable to make an argument to save your life. Further, your pathetic attempt to insult my punctuation is honestly hilarious, and continues your pattern of making no sense. Andy, you should do the story of Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler. An American B-17 pilot whose plane was seriously injured on a raid to Germany. They were barely flying but they were headed toward an infamous German defense along the border that would end it all for them. Franz Stigler, a German fighter pilot, was going to shoot them down which would qualify him for a German battle award. But he decided he couldn't do it, and flew alongside them so the German defense would see his plane and not shoot. Soon after, the qualifications for that German battle award were raised so Franz never got it. Charlie and Franz reunited and became best friends decades later, until their death.

      Oh yes, this is exceptional war story! Just like the English guy who had young (& lost messenger) Hitler on the business end of his rifle, but had mercy on him (for very same reasons, the war was basically done). If he only knew.. Or the xmas truce football game and singalong, also on WW1. And how hard it was to get the soldiers continue fighting after the truce, they really didnt want to kill their new friends and dillydallied as long as possible. Humans arent inherently bad, if you can have empathy in the middle of a war.

    • @CrstnJdiKnight
      @CrstnJdiKnight 9 місяців тому +3

      I know of the story of the Christmas Truce during WW1 and one of the few times that both sides of the combatants of the conflict saw how point less the wat was, and to realize they were basically descent people with the same feelings and Passion as anyone else.
      Though I disagree with the assumption of humans are good in nature. If that's the case we humans would never do bad things. Which the Bible says are born corrupt and bad, so need to be taught the right way to go. Just saying...😁🕵️😅

Lee's relief column were from company D of the 17th Armored-Infantry Battalion, an all-African American unit attached to the 12th Armored Division. So not only is this an engagement involving American and German troops (and French VIP prisoners) fighting against the Waffen SS, some of the Americans present were black. A truly remarkable battle.

    I always thought this would be the perfect movie for the 90's indy darlings kevin smith, Tarrintino and Robert Rodriguez to team up on.
    Have Tarrintino write the badic storeline. Have Kevin write the dialogue and have Robert direct. Then have Tarrintino do a final dialogue pass and have him be the producer.
    That way you get the best of all 3 of them. You get kevin's dialogue, Roberts ability to shoot for cheap and Tarrintino would give it that flare in the scene setup, music and editing (also use Tarrintino's editor)

    Why haven’t there been longer videos recently? Is it due to your editor getting married? No matter the reason, it’s no problem, just wondering if there still plans to make them. I’ve really enjoyed them!

    Andy, it's great to see a review of the Battle of Castle Itter which fully accepts the role that Hauptsturmfuhrer Kurt Siegfried Schrader played in the battle. All of the men who fought that day had balls of steel, Schrader, however, had balls of Titanium. He not only fought wounded, but against the SS, if he'd been captured, he would have been tortured by the SS.
    (Note: hauptsturmfuhrer is Schrader's correct rank, the SS had different terms compared to the army (heer), but few non historians would recognise that.)
