I saw them on this tour in Atlanta 1993, I was 16. One of the best gigs I ever witnessed. 🤘🏻
Mercyful Fate was always phenomenon to me. Their lyrics were always dark and evil but their albums/songs always bringed me so much joy for 3,5 decades. I usually have a pitty if I see BM bands wearing corpse paints but King Diamond always looked so serious with hisown and delivered excellent shows. One of the best heavy metal bands ever 🤘💥🤘

In The Shadows was a great comeback album for the Fate. Egypt is a fantastic single. Although their first two albums, Melissa and Don't Break The Oath will always be flawless masterpieces, their third reunion album was a great piece of work.
I like Time a lot what do you think of that one?
@@markpalavosvrahotes5575 Time is good, and so are the other two after it. But, it seemed after In The Shadows, they started to sound less like Mercyful Fate and more like another version of the King Diamond band. It's not a bad thing, just something I've noticed.

At the height of the Grunge movement Mercyful Fate reunited. There probably wasn't a single band out there that could have been any further from Pearl Jam. No Radio friendly songs, absolutely no yarling, real guitar solos, a stage show , and lyrics about fantasy and the Occult. Unlike Iron Maiden I like the reunion albums just as much as the EP , Melissa, and Don't Break the Oath, and the fact that Mercyful Fate was the only band on planet Earth that played Traditional Metal in the mid 1990s makes me appreciate their later albums even more
Yes they really took it to the mountain, and kept waving the metal flag while others seemed to get sidelined or changed their styles.
Same as Running Wild, they also kept releasing good albums in the 90's and didn't jump on the trends of the time.
When king was posing for the photos , it was awesome to see him switch gears into a crazy demon beast from just smiling

King has really worked on his delivery and production over the years. Songs for the Dead DVD is amazing. King and Mercy was my favorite band growing up in my early crazy death head days...Loved King.. All my buddies never liked the signing and would get mad at me whenever I cranked and played it ..LOL!!! If you are a King fan surely check out "Songs for the Dead".. Real Diamond fans will love it! I watched it ten times already and don't even listen to metal anymore ..LOL

You're personal beliefs have nothing to do with your taste in music. Good is good. I've heard lots of Christian bands that suck. I like Mercyful Fate as well. Performance based religion isn't Christianity. It's Religion, not Grace.
Music or songs thereof are fantasy,stories,no worse than all the violence in the bible!
as long as your soul doesn't agree with the lyrics, its ok. as soon as you start agreeing with the lyrics, then yes, you fall out of favor. you can't sing "i deny jesus christ, the deceiver" - from the bottom of your heart and still be ok with Jesus. you have to choose your spiritual battles wisely.

It was during that period of time (good few years) when his vocals where objectively bad, if not to say horrible. So happy to see him being a complete badass now. He's probably at his best in his 60s. What a man, what a drastic change!🤘

Was it '84, or '85, Scott? I didn't go as I didn't listen to Armored Saint and hated Metallica when I first heard them. Just before Cliff was killed in that accident, I was ready to see them at the Felt Forum in '86. No Metal shows at the Garden after the last time Priest toured DEFENDERS there! Saw Maiden and Priest at the Garden back in those days. I caught Dickinson's second USA performance with Maiden in '82, or '83. They opened up for The Rods. I saw Megadeth in '85 and caught King 2 or 3 times at L'amour's. Just got the pic discs of the first 2 Fate lps. Have to get copies of the new colored vinyls. NUNS, MELISSA, OATH and THE BEGINNING. METAL! Rock on Brother! Great days back then. 🤘
Was curious if you've ever seen the band "Death" play at Lamour's? But I think it would of been a little later than 84' more towards the later 80's

The camera guy is/was Oliver Weinsheimer, the guy who organizes and promotes the K.I.T. (Keep It True Festival) since 2003 and other metal festival as Hammer of Doom and Metal Assault in Germany.

King can play guitar but prefers vocals only he played guitar and sang in his previous band before he the brats and they evolved into mercyful fate, he also has played some guitar in the studio on his solo albums. Another tidbit kings brother briefly played guitar in mercyful fate, before micheal denner joined you can his brothers playing on the return of the vampire album.
