Jaguar XJ6 (X350) bonnet catch issue (has the cable broken???)

We investigate if we one can get under the bonnet by going behind the grills to get to the catches and two wether the cable has broken
Or something else like sticky catches or it’s snagged somewhere
A few weeks back dad needed to top up the screen wash and the end of the cable at the bonnet release lever pulled out and the cable wouldn’t move
So for a while we couldn’t get in to top up the screen wash
After doing some research we found that you can gain access to the bonnet catches through the grills
Very easy to do on the drivers side but for safety and theft reasons the passenger has a security box around the catch
So we had to remove that to get the bonnet open
All fine and dandy but can we sort the issue?
Do we need a new cable?
Or is simply the catches need a clean up?
Let’s find out

Cheers guys and gals
Great video! I have been looking for a month to find out how to get access to my 2004 XJ8 cable releases. You made it look easy and were super helpful.
Thanks!
how to open the bonnet after you pulled out the grill? I removed the grills but can't access the latch to release it.. thank you.
After that palaver I'd have lubed that cable whilst it was almost apart. Since there's 2 of you one gets the oil and gets it down the cable whilst the other shouts stop when it's reached the release latch and places a rag to catch excess.
I use to have a cable oiler. Don't know if they exist now but if you can get one then do so since you have a nice collection of older cars.
Cheers buddy we will get that sorted and try and find a cable oiler
