    I just saw a C3 at Best Buy and couldn't BELIEVE how it popped. These "dimmer models" are still SO much brighter than OLED's used to be.

    • @thatdrh
      @thatdrh Рік тому +6

      they have them on demo mode... Also you didn't have an old model right next to the new one playing the same exact content.. I have a C9 here, next to C3 42" and the s95c. I just took the samsung back after seeing that all the font had little rainbow edges (well lot of the font) due to the sub- pixel(s) orientation. So then I mirrored the image of the C3 to the C9. The game mode on these newer models kills the TV... This clearly wasn't as aggressive on the older models.. My C9 looks better than the C3...definately not worth it for me... I am going to try the G3 in 3 days when it gets here..

      Actually not really. C series from LG did not move up in brightness since C9 came out, in 2019... NO C series can hit 1000 nits which is the holy grail of HDR on OLED (Pretty much every HDR video is mastered for 1000 nits peak). Im NEVER again going OLED with less than 1000 nits peak brightness after having QD-OLED for 1½ years now. Had C9 and G1 before it, and it is not even close in terms of brightness but the colors on QD-OLED is what really stands out, simply insane difference. The color volume on QD-OLED is just way better, something MLA did not fix at all. More _white_ brightness alone is not what we really want, just drowns the rgb subpixels. Even G2 had this problem. As long as LG insists on WRGB config, they NEED to boost RGB brightness, or I won't buy LG OLED again.

      @@thatdrh Wow really? That's unfortunate if true and that it's not a user error kind of thing (not saying it is, but saying it could be). I have a used 77'' C9 that I got last December for an extremely good price, only to find out it had a really obnoxious defect in it where on the bottom right hand side of the screen there's a cluster of pixels that will "flash" white every sixty seconds when that area is supposed to be pure black (meaning "off") as though either those pixels are not getting enough power, or they are simply dying. Had been planning on replacing it with a G3 sometime in the near future with the store credit I'll get from the C9 since it had a five year warranty. If the picture on the C3 is actually *worse* due to the different pixel orientation, then I'm wondering what that means for the G3.

      @@Neonmirrorblack I never ended up going back for the G3 after I took both the c3 and s95c back. From my understanding the G3 will be a noticeable difference from the C9 (that I still have). At this point, I decided to wait yet another year and see what they release for 2024.

    I think the G series needs to start coming with a stand. Kinda silly a TV would come with zero stand.

    • @legionmartin
      @legionmartin Рік тому +79

      Not including a stand is just stupid. LG is making a huge assumption that most people who can afford the G3 will be mounting the TV on the wall. This is just not true.

    • @irfanpatel564
      @irfanpatel564 Рік тому +19

      @Legionmartin I disagree. I had specifically purchased the LG G1 over the C1 due to the included wall stand as I was looking to wall mount it as it mounts flushed against the wall. 3rd party wall mounts generally have a larger gap and the included LG wall mount is actually indented to the back of the TV. Of course I would have preferred to have both but I'm guessing it would increase the cost of the TV by around £200 by including. So LG would rather provide it as a independent extra.
      Logically speaking, it is the Galllery Series, and it's made specifically for wall mounting anyway.

    • @Neonmirrorblack
      @Neonmirrorblack Рік тому +15

      Yep. Hate this. They act like the ONLY people who are going to pay the price for them are ALL going to wall mount. Even when LG does offer an optional stand, so far with the G1 and G2 they have been garbage tier. The G1 had those stupid legs, and the G2 caused the TV to slant backwards.

    • @irfanpatel564
      @irfanpatel564 Рік тому +2

      @@Neonmirrorblack I do agree that the optional table top stand for the G1 is not a pleasant one. LG need to improve this 100%. I prefer the table top that fits centrally like the S95B. However due to the thickness of modern oleds they do appear to be more flimsy introducing wobble. I wouldn't recommend if you have small children and wall mounting would be the better choice.

  • @Neonmirrorblack
    @Neonmirrorblack Рік тому +1

    You can already see the difference with tone mapping off. Look at the differences at 1:38 between the two signs with the woman. Huge difference. The TV's should actually look more different than similar with tone mapping OFF anyway, not ON. Tone mapping really only lets the TV push itself to the highest highlights it can produce while keeping the rest of the image "accurate". What most people actually care about is the full screen APL, not a 10% or 5% window.
    If both of theses TVs were actually calibrated, it's super easy to spot the differences with ton mapping off. Besides that, by many of the more respected calibrators, you don't actually want to be using dynamic tone mapping if you want the best picture without sacrificing true accuracy. Dynamic metadata like Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are good, but they don't work the same as what dynamic tone mapping from the TV, which is how many people think it works.
    If a movie was mastered at 1000 nits, keep DTM OFF. If it was mastered at 4K, user discretion is advised, since it can in some cases preserve highlights that would be blown out otherwise.
    The G3 is all about preserving color saturation at higher brightness levels, and HDR content. In most use cases, it should always look better than the C3. Whether or not it's worth the price difference + optional stand is another matter.

    • @TechWithKG

    Hey KG, in a video of the 2023 TV shoutout D-Nice said that he went back from the G3 to the G2 because of some issues he found in the G3 but he didn't elaborate. Do you know what issues he was talking about? A friend of mine said that in 1080p SDR the G3's colors look washed out compared to the C3, he also mentioned some hazy look on the G3 where the C3 he said had no problems. HDR material he said that looked better color wise and of course more bright that the C3. I wanted to buy a G3 at the BF deals but im kinda worried about what he said and why would D-Nice go back and use the last years G2, worry some! Whats your opinion? Thanks!!

    yeah, that's the problem with this reviewers, they don't tend to keep their oled tv's for to long just to see that will be a huge problem with that auto dimming after 2 years and soon after that pixel wear and ultimately burn ins (learned the hard way) so getting recommendations for gaming based on just picture preference is absurd. samsung and C3 is a no go on the long run for gaming. Look for oleds with heatsink and Heavy resistance on ABL. so the G2, G3 or the Sony A95L will be your safer choice.
    G2 is the best option for gaming as it is proven that hat less image retention than the G3

Anywhere in the video during quick pans this can be seen, it's just very clear to see what I'm talking about during that 3rd person game footage.
    It almost looks like the C3 has black frame insertion on or something causing a very easy to spot doubling. I would assume that the G3 and C3 panels are very similar minus the MLA. depends on your needs. if you have a high end one with 2500 nits, you will get an HDR and punch that no OLED can match with any sort of ambient light present. For a completely dark room, yes, LCD cannot compete with the new generation of OLED. I have an LED LCD TV for my bright living room (Sony ZH8) and a QD OLED for my back room (S95b). The Sony is overall the better TV for anything outside HDR gaming where VRR is required and interestingly mainly for menus and black horizontal bands when watching movies. For actual content, I am on the fence, and Netflix looks better on LED LCD. For stable 60fps games I would say it is a tie, but especially PS5 games seem to be optimized for the ZH8 so games like Final Fantasy 7 or Horizon are just stunning on the LED LCD even when comparing with OLED.

      @@TheAntifluencer to give some perspective: I own a ZH8 (predecessor to the Z9K) and a S95b. The ZH8, a TV from 2020, eats the s95b for breakfast in 90 percent of content: Bright scenes, snow scenes, near black scenes, high contrast scenes without true black (S95b tends to crash a lot of the details unless you overbrighten the APL via shadow detail or gamma settings), sports, gaming (when VRR is not needed), Game mode (which is too dark on the samsung unless you switch of game hdr and hdr10+ options and darken shadow detail to broaden the colour spectrum), SDR content (S95b is a joke and as far as I know LG is even worse), upscaling (e.g. Wii or Switch games upscaled to 8k), cinema (HBO, Netflix, Disney+), smooth gradation (again Samsung is a mess versus the Sony on low setting), better natural motion blur, blackframe insertion that actually works, and accurate white colour (not slightly pink as Samsung or slightly green as LG).
      The s95b is better only when contrast needs to be against absolute black which does not occur often in real content (generally menus in games (Zelda load menu looks spectacular on S95b as it is fully black and white or red and black), subtitles or black horizontal band during movies), when VRR is needed, movies in playing in space (e.g. Gravity), youtube demoscreens (though even in the famous Las Vegas demo of Sony or chess demo of LG the superiority of the OLED tv is not that clear cut) and the sony processing cannot handle some vertical thin lines in certain scenes (I encountered this issue on 5 occassions in both gaming, youtube and cinema content).
      I agree it is all about the contrast. But contrast between a 2500 nit TV versus near black real life content versus a 1500 nit TV versus near black real life content. I don't say that there is no content where the Samsung looks better, my point is that it actually does not happen that often.

    Considering upgrading my 77 inch G1 to an 83 inch G3 but is it $1,500 better than the 83 inch G2 (still available new on clearance) knowing it doesn’t have MLA?

      Nah 83 inch will be pretty much the same as far as overall picture quality for all W-OLEDs so choose the cheapest one with the best features you need.

    KG would you say that mini led is off the table now as im really struggling to jump at a purchase...im just about to pull the trigger on the QN95C but then I hear that upscaling on a qled isnt as good as oled!! Arrrgh!
    Then G3 is brighter in bright scenes than S95C but worse with gaming....it just goes on....
    KG im actually thinking you could save my life here when you get the QN95C because I know you appreciate led aswell. That will be my favourite video of the year...QN95C vs G3/S95C?

      The difference is the brightness, burn in protection and anti flare of the G3. In a bright room the G3 is insanely better and you are fully covered for any panel issues for 5 years unlike the C3

    Can MLA be used in Qd-OLED? Theoretically.

    • @reviewforthetube6485
      @reviewforthetube6485 Рік тому +2

      Maybe but it's not needed qd oled has less layers already. The issue with wrgb oled is they get blocked so the holes and reflection now bounces out instead of being trapped with wrgb. Qd oled doesn't need it and won't. What I think lg did wrong is instead of allowing just the new panel structure to shine they then pushes the panels even harder which in turn has really messed up its low luminance performance. It's clear they wanted it as bright as qd oled but they clearly didn't account for the flaws it brings in play. While qd oled can hit these brighrnesses and get all of the benefits an oled is king at low luminance performance. Since it's not just being pushed passed its limits.

      Theoretically, yes.
      Would it bring the same level of improvement in a QD-OLED panel? That remains to be seen.

      @@reviewforthetube6485 qdoled have burnin, so MLA can halp to preserve the panel because naturally brighter.
      and less consumption always a good thing, and so can less ABL effect too (because abl is to have less consumption too)
