This was literally on the radio 5 minutes ago when I was driving home and I didn’t catch the name this dude always gets the songs I’m listening to at the moment or I just heard
Wow. A guy who knows which direction the original guitarist picked the strings. This is someone who's taking a true passion for music and sharing it, which is the best teaching you can get, because he's not going to waste a second of your time. Thank you so much for making this available, your videos are phenomenal.
I was 9 years old in 76 , my cousin taught me Godzilla that year , just starting out on the instrument , the power cords like Smoke on the water . 54 now , and I learned how to play this from Carl , start to finish on a raining Sunday . Carl .... Thank you , for taking me back to my youth Sir .
When I first started playing guitar, I watched your videos and I was like damn, this guy is way too good and I couldn't play anything. My dumbass was trying to learn Black Dog 1 month in and I mean I got the notes, but that's about it lol. Now, 5 months in, I've been able to follow your videos more and more. I've been practicing Ten Years Gone by Led Zeppelin and you go really in depth with that. I've got most of the intro down, it's just transitioning to some of the chords I've never played is hard, but I'm definitely getting better. So far with this video, I'm 3:51 and I can do that perfectly. This song is really fun, so I can't wait to learn a lot of thus song. Also, could you do Cities On Flame With Rock and Roll by them and Stranglehold by Ted Nugent. I will keep watching you all the time, you are the best teacher on UA-cam.
I've been watching your videos for a year now and have learned so many great tunes. Absolutely the best teacher on the internet. Just subscribed, and very glad to support your teaching.
Mr. Carl, you're a legend! You're one of the main driving forces that keep me playing the electric guitar! You really are a great tutor and a fantastic guitar player. You've taught me many, many songs. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Hi Carl. Would you be able to do a lesson on how to play Cherub Rock by the Smashing Pumpkins? I tried other lessons but they’re confusing. Your lessons are always the very best.
I can remember I watched your famous riff video a while back! I was just listening to the song and wanted to see if anyone finally had a full tutorial of this classic, and I am so happy that it was you that uploaded this because you taught me this riff!

Wow, this one really hits a nostalgic nerve for me. I remember first discovering this track on a random classic rock compilation cd I had in the late 90's, and must have played it on repeat a dozen times as I drifted off to sleep. For some reason it became my favourite song, and I embarrassingly have the last verse tattooed on my side 🥴 I learnt this a while back, but it's great to get a refresher on the fill section and of course the solo. Thanks Carl, perhaps Godzilla's in the cards...?!
One of my favorite songs of all times! I am convincing myself to get a instrument and learn to play!! Rather than using digital software to make music this will be my first video! Thank you brother!!!
Howdy Carl, i’m thinking about a Smith/Kotzen lesson! I like all three of the first songs released but if I had to pick one I’m thinking “Scars” for a lesson, can’t go wrong with any of them though. What do you think?
Back when he was too lazy to teach the whole song 😂. Now he’s the exact opposite of lazy! Virtually every song I want to learn is on his list and you can damn well be assured that it is correct.. Carl is like the patron saint of online guitar instructors. I bet he’s a heck of a nice guy too. He should consider a “Dinner with Carl Brown sweepstakes “ What do you say?
I just came across this channel. I am just learning how to play for the first time and I like the riff to this song that I wanted this to be the first song I learn. To me it's a classic. I am having trouble with my fingers getting in the way of the other strings when I pick the strings. How can I get my fingers to cooperate? I know this is a dumb question.
when do we get to the part where you teach me to make my guitar sound like a cowbell? For real though, I love the whole section where you get into the solo. It's very meticulous and well done. Also, because I'm terrible at all of this, it gives me a chance to go back and continue to practice the intro and the fills while your solo breakdown plays in the background.
The licks are not the issue Someday I hope someone shows us how to get that spot on perfect tone. I'm using a 100W Katana and I have been really struggling to find that edge of breakup, sustain, reverb, delay combination that I think I am hearing here. He just pegged it in this video without having to turn on the Hiwatt or the Plexi.
Is it just me or is this video much lower quality or something? It is set to 1080 right now and it looks pretty bad. edit... I guess just the first 30 seconds. My bad.
damn I use to ply this song in a band when I was a kid probably when the song first not an easy song to play I faked I remember some of it now I'm retired now so I thoughT I could see if I can learn the right way I use guitar pro 8 bought the tabs through my song book on guitar pro. I'm already having a tough time with it never really was a cross picker could never get that right. This vid might make it a bit easier I'm hoping thanks bud
so for the interlude are they just going parallel with the bass part? because the start of it outlines an Fminor then Gmaj with a flat2 but the lead looks like its mostly Am? Also im really not feeling the cowbell on taht take D:
I thought the song was in A minor, but then the riff that goes with the solo looks like an F minor scale... anyone willing to give me a hand here to understand what key the song is in?

I have to agree with Andrew. this lesson is just Wow, Carl! Thank you for taking the time and teaching this level of details. GT
Although it’s good to know, you pick however is comfortable,he said that’s how he picks it,didn’t say that’s how it was recorded
@@tommilitello198 Buck Dharma has a video lesson of the riff on his web site. He says he alternate picks the riff because otherwise he can get lost.
Not here to ask for a different song or to even mention a cow bell, just wanna say thank you!
I listened to this last night, and thought of learning it. This popped up as a notification. Maybe it's a sign?
A sign you don't need to fear the reaper
