Johnny Cash Understand Your Man lyrics
Don’t call my name out your window, I’m leaving
I won’t even turn my head
Don’t send your kinfolk to give me no talking
I’ll be gone, like I said
You’d just say the same old things
That you be saying all along
Just lay there in your bed and keep your mouth shut
Till I’m gone
Don’t give me that old familiar cry and fuss and moan
Understand your man
I'm tired of your bad mouthing
Understand your man
Now, you can give my other suit to the Salvation Army
And everything else I leave behind
I ain't taking nothing that'll slow down my traveling
While I'm untangling my mind
I ain't going to repeat what i said anymore
While I'm breathing air that ain't been breathed before
I'll be as gone to as a wild goose in winter
Then you'll understand your man
Meditate on it
You hear me talking now
Understand your man
Remember what i told ya
Understand your man

Most modern women would HATE this song, but I love the whole album !!!
7 people don’t understand this man
Fuck thum
I dont care if he's high, 0:53 and through that trumpet/steel guitar solo, he's just so smooth and badass
I love this performance and watch it multiple times a week
Wish the sound quality was better
Have you seen the colorized 1958 country style USA with there you go and give my love to rose
The Man in Black, cooler than the other side of the pillow...RIP
Tons of soul to bring shivers...nails you from the start. Regardless of his situation, he sent lightning bolts at his lowest points. One of the best communicators music ever had.
My favorite song . Rest in peace this great man
No way!??? Really. I might like you after all. :)

By far the best song ever by JC!
Then you haven’t heard a lot
@@WE-in7qs I've heard plenty. He was good 'til he came up with that "man in black" crap.
THAT MEXICAN SOUND!!!!!! BRAVO!!!
His songs were always good.
A little bit of Mariachi
Just a little bit,
Rest in peace señor. Jonny.
The last song Johnny performed live before he left us.
You are right
True!
I love all his songs ❤ but his music will live on.
JC number 1
Remember, that is the great Mr. Cash. He had a very rough go of it, a lot rougher than a lot of us can understand. He had his vices, don't hold that against him. His struggles with substance use shouldn't change how you think of him, just understand your man.
After all these years of thinking I was hearing where Dylan got “Dont Think It’s Alright” I find out that after Dylan gave that song to Cash, Cash used some of the melody when he wrote this. Good friends share, and Dylan was a Cash fan from way back until the end. I guess there were no hard feelings.
It actually began with a traditional folk song in the public domain called "Who's Gonna Buy You Chickens When I'm Gone?" Folkie Paul Clayton reworked it as "Who's Gonna Buy You Ribbons When I'm Gone?" and recorded it in 1960. When Dylan came to NYC he befriended Clayton, who taught Dylan "Who's Gonna Buy You Chickens?" Dylan took it from there and came up with "Don't Think Twice." The same melody runs through all those songs and Johnny Cash just continued to borrow it...
I heard cash admitting to dylan they stole the song from another singer
John really looks rough in this video. I reckon it was in his toughest period, before he got sober. Awfully glad he did. This is one of his very best songs.❤
Makes since they were both good friends and were signed under Columbia Records. I think Johnny did the melodic structure best cause he added a Tex~Mex element to it.
Love it!!!
Thank you for posting this
I tried to play this at an open mic, in Manitou Springs, Colorado, once.
This was the last song Johnny performed live
He was sick in this. Glad he got better
sadly, you could tell this was recorded in his drug addictive times. just doesn’t sound right or look too good. of course sounds better than most any artist in this condition regardless 😁
He was lipsynching to a recording of the song. That's why it doesn't look "right"
@@Rasfreeman Actually, he isn't! He means John himself doesn't look good. This was filmed in 1965, when his addiction was already 7 years old.
@@Rasfreeman Obviously he isn't lipsynching. Look at the adlibs.
That’s the thing about Johnny even at his worst he still sounded so good!
And he’s not using a microphone
Sang it Johnny
Johnny ain't ever takin' no shit 'bout nuthin'
Meditate on it!
Most gangsta sh on You Tube

Great rare footage!! What show is this from?
Jimmy Dean show
If anyone can tell me what kind of guitar he is using that’d be kindly appreciated
Who wants me to play this at a feminist event of some sort?
This sounds a lot like Dylan’s Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright but with a Tex~Mex Twist
Who was on the Dobro here ? Wish they wd shown him.
What year was this?
When The Cowboy Sings thank you sir
I thought it was 1964...
What guitar is he holding
Anyone know the guitar he’s using.
i think its a martin lx1
It's some type of classical guitar, weird because he normally uses martins
Claude Speed and btw it's far from a Martin lx1
I can almost hear the amphetamine😂😂
A hella good song nevertheless
Really this song was misogynistic. The woman couldn't express her displeasure in fear of him leaving her. Was this song written for Vivian?
Sounds too me she express herself on the daily.if you listen too the words.he is sick of her mouth her crying fussing and moaning witch means all she did was express her displeasures no fear of anything.so he finally had enough of her constantly “Expressing” herself so now he’s leaving and don’t want too hear her daily bs too the very end while he’s packing too get away from her mouth 😂😂😂
Yeah Fr it sounds like he wants to go on a bender and pretend he’s a bachelor when HE’S NOT
@@missm3717 It's still misogynistic because he wasn't trying to fix the problem that was causing her to fuss with him and she had plenty of reasons to fuss with him
@@sofiadimaggio4815 Excuse me, but what gave you the notion they were married?
@@bubbadude7614 yeah it could be just a made-up story, imagining if he wasn’t married. Johnny cash was married at this time, but it def could be just a story.
