Many fans remain unaware that Hank wrote much of his material. So talented.. So tragic that he died so young. Will be loved and admired long after I am gone, and as I am now 87, won't be too long before I join Hank. England, February, 2024.
I love George Strait. But Hank Sr. is the fucking Beethoven of Country. That hard-ass painful Country music that was more about your heart than your pickup truck. Strait was above all that, but can't compete with Hank Sr.
Hank Williams had been around a long time and was my dad's musical hero. One day my mom said "yeah he was pretty good but he sang out of his nose" and my dad says "I don't care if he sings out of his b*** he's still the best country artist ever" lol R.I.P. DAD n HANK.
Was my Dad's favourite also. Ours was a musical family. My Dad played guitar & spoons, my uncle played fiddle as well as my grandfather on the violin & my grandmother the piano. Dad was the singer & would sing many of Hank Williams songs. My husband is also a big fan of Hank Williams & old time classic country. All our boys grew up listened to their Dad sing these songs & play guitar. I think it's funny that they all know the words to these old time songs.
I became a fan in an odd way. George Thorogood and Linda Ronstadt covered his songs. I just happened to come across an 8-track tape of Hank's greatest hits my Father had stored away. I played it, and that was it. The year: 1983. I was almost 20. (Was in October)
the Red Hot Chili Peppers did a crazy version of this on their very first album.. when I was getting back into their old stuff a few years ago I realised it was a Hank cover and it got me (back into) him as well !
I keep debating the KING of country, but they won't accept Hank Williams SR. I don't get it. I guess they are not educated in country music.....and I love rock music.

I like the piano in this version. My dad was a Hank Williams fan when I grew up in the early 60's so I got to hear these neat songs. It was only lately that I came to really appreciate the great song writing ability he had and why he is such a legend. I cannot stand the talent mocking buffoonery on the radio today and it has caused me to go back and listen to these old classics with renewed appreciation. Tell you something else--we don't have catchy melodies on the radio today. All they do is spew out notes all over the place and the songs really go nowhere. I just love how he could use 3 simple chords over again but sing amazing melodies over those chords for unique and different songs.Hank is a world class songwriter and performer!
Many of us do declare that this song by Hank was the first rock n roll song recorded. It is my favourite of all his songs and I just love and admire this man so much.
Songs like this by good ole 'artists' as Hank Williams should have the millions of views - not angry negative ghetto crap. Hank was like one of the father's of Country. This was such a good song. I wish we could slam on the brakes and turn this country back to the past better days. But sadly that's not gonna happen. We've lost something, something that was really good once.
