Can't BELIEVE this HAPPENED while we were GONE! | UPDATES | Shed To House Conversion
Hello everyone! We were gone for the weekend. We had such an amazing time in Florida. It was the first time Roxane and myself had been there. We were to the gulf coast , panhandle area of FL. It was amazing. When we came back, we were so surprised to see what had happened. Thank you all for being here, we appreciate you all! Enjoy.

Hey Rox! Gardener think through here. What did you do with the zucchini plants last year when you gave up? As soon as you said that, I was wondering if you just left them there in the garden. The thought occurred to me that left the next years bugs around in the garden for this year. If they start getting bad again, I would pull them out of the garden and burn the plants. As you treat the rest of the garden this summer, also treat the bare ground where the zucchini was. Next year plant zucchini in a different area. I know, my brain works too much! 😂🤣😂 Texas Deb ❤️

To kill squash bugs, you can
Handpick them from your plant and drop them into a bucket of soapy water.
Scrape or pull off egg clusters from the underside of leaves and dispose of them or drop them into the same soapy water.
Use Sevin Dust liberally in the entire garden every 3 days After it rains and or Spray your plant with neem oil, which repels and kills squash bugs. (Respray After It Rains)
Apply diatomaceous earth around the base of the plant, which dehydrates and kills squash bugs. (After It Rains)

I have never seen a garden grow so fast! It's all coming in at once. A lot if work all at once, but totally worth it. This is your best garden ever! The green house looks amazing, you will get some good use out of it year round. I'm glad you enjoyed your little vacation, you all need to get away once in awhile.❤❤❤❤

Every year Roxs rotate your garden around like one year you have zucchini and then the next year you need to rotate it to a different box gardening box that’s the problem, but you can put a mint plant next to your garden squash or you can use marigolds or catnip them little burgers don’t like it. Here is another one for you. Coffee grounds can make leftover coffee ground. You guys drink a lot of coffee so you can put it in the ground too because when I start my mold I use a lot of coffee grounds in my mulch, I like putting them in there because tomato plants love coffee grounds because it’s acidity but those bugs they don’t like coffee grounds and you can make a spray out of it and spray your plants with that please keep all the debris away from your squash and your cucumbers and also next year don’t leave them in there pull them out. Make sure there’s no seeds in there and by next year you gotta put it in the next box that I always rotate my plants good I planted a lot of stuff yesterday and my new is hanging over so I’m gonna have to plant it in to another pot. I gave it soap water last night and it looked good this morning until it was 96 today and it didn’t look happy, so good luck on your garden sweetheart❤

Use food grade diatametious earth for your squash bugs. If use it early in the growing season it helps tremendously with squash bugs. I just harvested zucchini today. So far no squash bugs. My zucchini is loaded. Glad you enjoyed your trip. PCB is my favorite place to go.

Plant your peas earlier. Old timers in my neck of the woods say to plant peas on Valentines Day. If you haven't tried it, fry some of those green tomatoes. Slice thin, soak in buttermilk, roll them in cornmeal with salt and pepper, then fry brown.

I looked at the image of squash bugs and to me those are stink bugs, but that is what came up in research. The squash bugs I am familiar with are that that borrow into the stem of the plant near the ground and weaken the plan by sucking up the juice for the plant.

When active, squash bugs can be found walking around on the plants they are infesting, usually beneath damaged leaves and near the plant crown where they suck out nutrients.
Their mating season is in early June, when the females will lay small clusters of eggs on the undersides of leaves through mid-summer.
They can winter in dead leaves, vines, plant debris, loose mulch products such as straw or hay and even buildings until they emerge in mid- to late spring to find host plant

Awesome the garden is providing for y'all and you can never have to many pickles...haha. For your squash though use Neem oil and Nasturtiums are especially known for releasing a chemical that repels squash bugs. Planting plenty of companion plants used ONLY for battling the bugs is a must if not using chemicals.

The garden is doing amazing. I read where an Iowa State research farm found a reduction in squash bugs and damage when summer squash was interplanted with a companion plant of nasturtiums. They also had other suggestions as well such as tilling your soil before planting as well as combining different plants and flowering plants in with squash plants instead of all squash plants in a row. They said it makes it harder for them. Good luck getting them under control.
