As a US vet in the 15 years since I've been out I've been able to gradually and then much more quickly put the big picture together and now it's funny how abundantly clear it is to how much General Smedley Butler and others were absolutely correct. The way the MIC is used in the US it most certainly is a racket and a deadly, brutal, expensive racket at that.
Now here's where I'm about to lose my Lefty and based comrades-
Even KNOWING all that, I have to say, I STILL wouldn't have left Afganistan yet under these current conditions with the Taliban taking over and how Trump turned the region literally over TO them and Biden didn't reverse any part of that amoral "agreement". That is an absolute absolute deal-breaker for me as someone who DOES support military intervention for LIMITED and humanitarian reasons. I'm not a fascist, I'm the direct opposite; but sometimes force and strength is necessary to defend the weak from the strong, and there are morally-defensible reasons to intervene. Rarely, but sometimes, diplomacy and good-faith dialogues aren't enough.
You can't be a liberator with only hopes and dreams. There IS a moral use of force, and most certainly an immoral or evil use; and I'm sure all of us here can recognize the difference.
I want to liberate Palestine from the Zionist subjugators and IDF occupiers. You think they're going to just give up willingly. I think we all know that will never happen. They are too Nazified toward their neighbors on whose lands and homes and goods they are too busy stealing and enjoying for any of that. This will require organized military action from a coalition committed to Palestinian freedom.
There is a time and place for deadly force. What about Boko Haram and other deadly and evil and vicious terrorist groups in North Africa? Obviously I do not believe people should stand idly by and allow them to get away with their deadly attacks and domestic terrorism. If local forces are not able to meet the threat, than I fully support sending in some of our people to assist in these operations. What's the alternative???? Being a sitting duck? Waiting until they strike again??? I don't think so. Allowing more young girls to be kidnapped en masse?? I sure hope not.
Likewise, I support removing the Tali-fascists and Tali-fucks by any means necessary (a liberation and protection of the Afghan people) and doing a legitimate reconstruction of Afganistan WITH and only IF we have the people's consent. IF we do, and I believe we do, then we should go back now and finish the job and get it right for a change. And if we don't, then that only leaves Russia and maybe China, as possible interveners to save that country.
I know the MIC is 99% bullshit and a money-siphoning scheme most of the time; but it what if at least ONE time, we used our power for good??? That's what I had hoped we were doing in Afghanistan and we still COULD, even if evil actors (CIA, special forces) have been getting away with wrongful and immoral actions up to this point.
Isn't that what happened in WW2 (I don't mean the atom bombs those were a crime against humanity, I mean the efforts besides that)?

JHC, that is a LOT of 'senior' commanders the uS has. And this is probably a small sample of some of the better known ones they rotated through Afghanistan. The uS war-machine is a bloated and top heavy, as it is bottom and middle heavy.
I read some where that there are over 800 generals that are active and commanding. There are a few who are made generals for a week or a month just before retiring. They are given a command like tank repair or some such. That command gives them more pension than colonel.
