Mini Cooper S Supercharger Fail

- Mini Cooper S which has been modified by Hartge, the supercharger started to make a noise so the car was recovered rather than driven.
The PTO - Power Take Off box powers the water pump which in turn pumps water around the engine. Because the PTO box failed, no water was being circulated. I hope this is useful for someone who may be experiencing/hearing a similar noise and is not quite sure.
thanks for the vid! I've always wondered how a failed R53 supercharger sounds. Now I know what to expect.
There's nothing I can do right now but I'd be more prepared then haha.
So what happened? Did the SC fail? :P
all new meaning to grinding gears.
any update?
What was the mileage on the Mini when the SC began to fail and needed to be replaced?
Atila Herrera they should be serviced every 100K miles. It’s essentially an oil change that needs to be done on both sides of the supercharger ( pulley side and water pump side)
@@mrslopez137 yes, but if you wait 100k miles your SC will die. You’re supposed to do it every 15k from what I’ve read.
@@mizaqenyad4269 Nope, every 100k. The job is too big to do as frequent as a regular service. Also, 100k is about what almost every source says. 15k every service is just a waste of good supercharger oil and a waste of time.
@@levichance okay buddy do whatever you want. But especially if you’re modified, waiting till 100k is waiting till your supercharger is already shot. It’s not that big of a job at all, especially after you’ve done it a few times.
@@mizaqenyad4269 Sure that may be true but even the manufacturer says themself around 60 to 100k. This isn't just secondary sources, the main company itself even said around that area.
When You Don't Give any supercharger Maintenance that's What Happened the Lubricant Oil Dry And Cost Friction And It Happened
Nelson Maldonado how do maintain it? Never had a car with supercharger before
Game Pleyz it has supercharger oil and it needs changed
TK 4rmWisco you need to service the supercharger every 100K miles. It’s essentially an oil change. I did mine and found the levels to be low.
How did that happen?
S. Vance it happens because they don’t get serviced every 100K miles, you have to do an oil change on them or they run dry and grind against each other.
