Hi! Don't worry too much about the dogs. When I was hiking in these mountains - many years ago - I often came across dogs without their owners. In this sparsely populated corner, dogs are often left untied, roam freely for several miles a day, and are usually home for dinner - like any sensible dog. In fact, one of them turned up at our place for breakfast, went on a 20-kilometer hike with us, and when I was back in our accommodation in the evening thinking about what I could give him to eat - he was gone. In other words, when he's in need and you're kind to him with food, he'll stick to you. If not, he was delighted to meet you, but he lives elsewhere. Of course, these dogs also hunt on their walks - but I am sure that the wild animal population is far too smart for such a farm dog and that they have little success. All the best, Georg
I had a dog like that growing up. Would take himself for walks, and join walkers. We had to put a tag on him that said "not lost", and he would always come home.
Martijn, there is so much solitude , peacefullness and simplicity in your life it brought to mind a line from the movie "The Last Samurai" As Katsumoto is walking in the garden looking at cherry tree blossoms he says this "The perfect blossom is a rare thing. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not be a wasted life."
Hello Martin. Just to share that I have been working with 1000l tanks for years, like the one you show. The weak point of these is the stopcock that is very easily damaged by both the sun and the cold. It works for me to protect that key by turning the tank so that sunlight does not fall directly, and also with some type of fabric, etc. that shelters the faucet and the area where it is inserted and tends to crack. Greetings from Spain.
First snow for Martjin and bald and bankrupt Japan videos are up. Saving this 1+hr for tomorrow evening. Can't miss Spain vs Germany tonight. Also, YT is better than Netflix, man. Cheers!
Good morning everyone! Enjoying your channel from Texas. Beautiful work you’re doing. Such incredible views. Stay warm and thanks so much for sharing your experience with the world.🙏🏼❤️
The videos are never long enough. The winter time really is a beautiful there. Lots of progress 👍 What will we all do when you have finished the project Martijn ! 😥😩
It's an IMPOSTER using the profile image, of Martijn. Basically what this person does is go around the UA-cam channels looking for people to give out their credit card numbers, ADDRESSES and money. "Shipping charges" for "gifts, prizes" you may send, get absolutely nothing.
It always takes me few moments to come back to reality after watching, especially when listening with headphones. There’s a peacefulnesses and a purity in what you’re doing. Thank you for sharing the goodness. 🖖🏼
This is amazing. Since I watched ‘2 years on a bike’, you have been my uncontacted mentor in a way for almost a year now. Your energy resonates with many souls in so many different ways. There are many things to say. I salute you, brother. Thank you for all this.
Outdoor fires remind me of Africa....sitting around a huge Boma ...the sound of big cats and other wild aninals. Telling stories of narrow escapes and many folklore tales and jokes . But there in the mountains it has its own beauty.
i am going backward on your videos - so I have already seen the wooden gutter installed, but I do love it. and glad you went with that. first snow left a lovely dusting, highlighting the mountain's crevices. first snow really helps you see where the water will run on the roof.
That dog probably went back to his home wherever that is. He had a collar, a shiny coat and healthy looking weight to be a stray. And that little tree behind Martijn while he worked on the gutters, whatever it is, it looks like a great little tree for Christmas lights 😊
I'm a person that detest long videos but I don't know what it is about yours that I enjoy so much thank you for your content , can't wait for the next one, from one side of the world to the next.🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲👍👍👍
I think that something different is always going on; woodworking, finishing touches on roof, baking bread, visitors/volunteers,going on a hike, and amazing drone shoots
Love how you just think of something and just go about doing it, like painting, 😊. Yeah, how great that would be is that is our attitude to life---get inspired in the moment and go do something about it.
The view we see everyday just creeps into us - I've been taking photos of the view out my front door for 9 years, now. Like Monet's haystacks. It's always a bit different. Good to see your view needs to be set down in paint. And good to see how you dealt with the ridge line on the roof - so simple! I also think you will see the black and white dog again, now that you've fed him. Obviously, the word is out in the local canine population that you are there. I knew a dog once who spent long periods of time between 2 houses in the same city. Neither household knew about the other, until one day a woman who thought he was hers was riding her bike in another part of town, and she saw her dog hanging out on a porch. She rang the bell and the person who answered it, who when asked about the dog, said, yeah - he comes and hangs out with us for a few weeks or a month and then disappears for a while. But he always comes back!
Hi Martijn, Good Morning & enjoy your day this Sunday & it was another Great Video!! Your First Snow, was Very Pretty there, here it means lots of shoveling, but we got ours Nov. 15, but melted that afternoon, but next day it snowed morning, afternoon & evening but next morning just flurries but afternoon everything melted! Stayed below normal in temperature for a week & half & then got back to our normal temperature & warmed up. Today Nov. 27, very heavy rain starting at 2am & windy too!! Love all the things you have done, like working on the solar panels, finishing the sky light, finishing the wooden gutters of the one side is complete, insulating the battery box, flushing out & refilling the water tank!! As for You trying to do Oil Painting...was a Great Thing to do even if you think it didn`t turn out...Your Sketch Was Gorgeous!! Getting introduced to these 3 guys, they talked about your Name...it is how you want to pronounce it or spell it!! Your 3 Friends from YT Channel The Pillow was there to do a video, was nice! Ploris decided to stay & help you with some projects was Very Nice! Another dog comes to visit, I think the dog-Sheep Collie has a Owner, because it has a Collar, you fed him after the 4 of you had dinner, which was nice & after dinner dog left, probably to go home where he lives! Finishing the Roof was a Great thing too! Yes you will make all your projects finish by Christmas, we all our praying for You! Ok I have 1 Question Martijn: the dinner you made at the start, you took greens from your garden & maybe potatoes, what was the greens? Have a Wonderful Week & stay safe, Love from Central Illinois America😉🥰
Martijin, I paint in oils and acrylics also, I can’t draw a straight line either. If you take a hard look at nature there are no straight lines. I find that hilarious. I have no aptitude for painting, but I decided to try it after retiring and I really enjoy the calm it brings to me.
Lots of work done and everything is looking good. I'm fascinated by the roof and the gutters. Maybe more in awe of the hard work you are willing to do. I agree with Clara , I'm always astonished that its the end of your video. I so enjoy it but its more the whole picture of the life you've chosen, the mountains and its beauty, the challenges. I hope your allergies will get better. Till next week.
Never in my life have I ever even heard of wood gutters. The thought never crossed my mind. I always thought of copper gutters as the pinnacle of gutters. But the wood is just perfect with the old, rustic stone. They are going to be really unique and beautiful. ❤
@@denisjackson8310 is that on old structures or is it still done on new structures? I would think the wood would degrade and rot over longer periods of time.
Beautiful Martin and the young man enjoying his first experience with fire and snow magical. Cold wine and newly done hot meat comment awesome. Thank you Martin for sharing it's always a pleasure for me learning and your patience towards authentic build. Just a special channel shared by a very talented man. Kudos
Thank you Martjin for sharing a few of your life’s journeys with us. My husband Ron Hall first found you as a cyclist when that was also a passion of his. But since being diagnosed with lung cancer 10 months ago, your journey with finding your home has become a weekly go to for us both in and out of the hospital. I’ve even had to make him homemade bread. 🥰 Well, I just wanted say God Bless you for helping us to dream a bit beyond our daily journey. ❤
Oh you can draw for sure you can do anything you put your amazing mind to, you’re an artist! I’m a painter and usually sketch on paper before although and some artists don’t even sketch they just put paint to the canvas! That wood for the gutter is fantastic! Snow!!! Yay the first one is exciting, thank you for sharing your time. Blessings ❤
Wonderlike terapie om n man met vele talente te sien met sy hande werk! Jou soort is yl gesaai. Wel gedaan tot dusver. So bly jy was mooi met die hond!
Not sure if it would work with such a large piece of wood, but I’ve seen cove cuts made by feeding the wood through a table saw on a diagonal with a temporary fence rigged accordingly. The key is to make multiple passes, just taking barely the height of the tooth of the saw blade each pass. If it works at all, it would be faster and less labour intensive but with a clean finish. You Tube has lots of examples. On the other hand, I truly appreciate the results you are getting with the hand-made approach. Thanks for the excellent videos!
There goes Martijn to the Rock lookout where he finds so much beauty and solace in his surroundings! Good morning, Martijn! Wishing you joy and peace and warmth this winter season!
I didn't want it to end! 🥴 Amazing what you share in 45 minutes. Walks, meals, gutter carving, roofing, views, and now oil painting....you will master it, I'm sure of it! 😊 I loved when you opened your tent and shared the snowfall just as you saw it upon waking up. Such fun! I giggled. 😊 You continue to amaze, Martijn. I really liked the view you shared at 12:36. I believe that's my favorite so far. Thank you Martijn. You seemed happy this week with the first snow. I was happy along with you! 😊 Have a blessed week! 💚 from Texas
I can see how much you appreciate and enjoy all of God's beautiful creation. I love watching your progress on all of your hard work. I will keep you in my prayers asking our great God to bless you, your work, and your beautiful property. I'm watching from the great Upper Peninsula of Michigan. 🙏😊
It's great to see the roof stones completed - what a lot of work, but you've done a beautiful job. I so enjoy watching your videos and progress each week. Stay warm, my friend ☺
And he paints … Martjiin, you are setting the bar pretty high for all of us. You have created a beautiful life of your own choosing that encourages all of us to dream just a bit more.
Hi Martijn, You are so great and blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful life of the Alps; just enjoy your wonderful scenery and best weather ever👍
I knew it! I just knew that sooner or later you were going to paint. You've successfully taken on the skills of carpenter, plumber, roofer, builder, gardener, and more. I just knew there would come a time when you would turn to some form of art! I hope it brings you joy.
Martijn, your videos became my weekly moment of rest and peace. Beyond the amazing landscape and the fantastic job you’re dong, the perfection if your videos is irresistible, Greetings from Brazil.
I'm 68 years old and taught myself watercolor painting through You Tube free classes from some of the most incredible artists out there. You can do the same, Martijn. I was careful to watch several different artists to find a style that I enjoyed. The wonderful thing is they start at the beginning...what you need, what is best to have at different skill levels, and the best thing is that the community is very supportive. Good luck to you. Expressing yourself in a very soft skill will be quite different and relaxing for you. I would also like to thank you for the joy you bring to me in being able to share your experiences. Best of luck on your new journey! 🎨🍻
From one novice painter to another, could I suggest watching Ian Roberts. On his UA-cam channel, he provides short, less than 10 minute lessons and tips that are extremely useful. He paints in oil. I did too at the beginning but have switched to acrylic. It can behave similar to oil but is certainly easier to clean up. Great for beginners. I love how you have 20 things going on at the same time!
Looks like Martijn: that you have the ideal environment to practice the Wim Hof method, not that I think you need it. Keep safe my friend and have a safe and happy Christmas. Richard
You say Martijn "I know bit about composition", well, one of the things that make your videos so great is the competition, it's almost poetic. Simply superb!
Martin is a real focused person and very skilful with his hands. It as been a pleasure to follow his progress at the cottages. For every season there,s a reason. Roll on Spring time.
My husband and I love watching your channel and marvel at the job you have accomplished. We live outside of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. You are very gifted. God bless you.
Painting is a great hobbie, is my favorite hobbie. To be the first time , zero experience, you have great "eye" and you are doing great drawing, quick and easy...Congrats you will love it, you'll see..🥰👍
Congrats on the roof! Loved the shot of the morning sun peeking over the ridgeline with the still orange trees. This transition period between fall and winter is the best, especially when there's snow. I would be outdoors plein air painting every chance I could to capture the feel and memories of those times. I hope your painting goes well. I hope you show us good, bad or indifferent your new endeavors at painting. How wonderful those paintings would be hnging inside your home. The artist in me just drools every time I see your lovely surroundings!
Martijn - try using your table saw to hollow out the gutters; make a fence at an angle to the blade cut line, lower the blade mostly down, then make passes with your half logs. Raise the blade a bit on each pass. The saw will eventually create an elliptical hollow much more quickly and accurately, and with much less effort (!). Experiment on scrap pieces until you get the fence angle just right. Love the serenity of your videos, and your occasional commentary.
This morning: "I wonder if Martijn will post early on Sunday again?" Open UA-cam: #46! Great episode, I'll be thinking about that dog quite a bit! The roof looks amazing and so close to completion! Enjoy the oil painting!
Martijn, Je bent een keizer! Ik ben nu nog 24 en moet wat zaken regelen in amsterdam, maar over een niet al te lange tijd zijn we buren!! Dankje wel voor de mooie blik in jouw wereld.
Martijn, Rooting for you to complete the roof before winter really sets in! I cannot help but feel worried about your furry friend. He appears to be a well loved dog. Isn’t there any way to spread the word throughout your mountain about the dog and help him reunite with his owners?
You can have bottles filled with very salty water floating in the tank. That will prevent the surface from freezing when the temperatures dip, it wont replace the insulation though.
EVERYTHING LOOKS FANTASTIC, AND SUPER KOOL THE ROOF IS FINALLY SEALED, DIGGING THE SKYLIGHT, GREAT CALL! THE SNOW MAKES THE LANDSCAPE IN AUTUMN LIKE A PAINTING. AND KEEP ON THAT PAINTING , IT TAKES TIME. BACK IN 2008 I STARTED PINSTRIPING, EVERY DAY FOR 8 MONTHS, AND IT WAS DEFINATELY WELL WORTH IT. IVE STRIPED MANY HOTRODS AND CARS SINCE THEN, ITS BECOME SECOND NATURE EVEN 14 YEARS LATER. GLAD YOU HAD SOME HELP GITTING MORE TASKS COMPLETED , TO SEE MORE POWERBANKS AND LARGER SOLAR SETUP, EXCELLENT DECISION TO INSULATE THE BATTERY BOX. THANKS FOR SHARING, ENJOY THE OFFGRID LIFE.
I wouldn't mind seeing some more of that food you are making. But let me just say your dedication to your craft, whether building, or filmmaking and sound design are unparalleled. I am inspired every time I watch.
Breathtaking, thank you as always for sharing your time. I look forward to seeing your art progress, like everything you do, I am sure you will master it. Blessings from Ireland ☘️🎄☘️

I can see how much you appreciate and enjoy all of God's beautiful creation. I love watching your progress on all of your hard work. I will keep you in my prayers asking our great God to bless you, your work, and your beautiful property. I'm watching from the great Upper Peninsula of Michigan. 🙏😊
You do really live in a beautiful place it’s great to see how appreciative you are, the look on your face when you came outside utter joy.
The Alps are just one of the most beautiful places on this incredible planet. Thanks for choosing the Italian side.
It's great to see the roof stones completed - what a lot of work, but you've done a beautiful job. I so enjoy watching your videos and progress each week. Stay warm, my friend ☺
Can't wait to see the pillow's video

And he paints … Martjiin, you are setting the bar pretty high for all of us. You have created a beautiful life of your own choosing that encourages all of us to dream just a bit more.
Hi Martijn, You are so great and blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful life of the Alps; just enjoy your wonderful scenery and best weather ever👍
Your videos help calm my debilitating anxiety, the authenticity, connection with nature and the sheer peacefulness is comforting. Thank you 🙏
Thank you, Martijn, and huge congratulations for finishing the roof!
I knew it! I just knew that sooner or later you were going to paint. You've successfully taken on the skills of carpenter, plumber, roofer, builder, gardener, and more. I just knew there would come a time when you would turn to some form of art! I hope it brings you joy.
Such a beautiful vista and a remarkable man. Thoroughly enjoy your channel. From Australia
Time flies quickly when you're having fun. The wooden gutters (sprouts) are a nice touch. Looking forward to the finish product. 👍🏾💖

I gotta say, this series is so soothing for the soul, HalleluYAH. Thank you brother.
Hallelujah
I really look forward to your videos. Blessings to you from Australia.
Love what you'er doing - Gods given you a gift - hope you gave the lost dog enough to eat I'm sure it has along journey to find his home .
Watching your videos brings so much peace!
3:03 beautiful end Gable view of the finished wood and rock structure good job!
"The man who enjoys the journey more than the destination, will get much further" cit. Martijn Doolaard
Thanks Martijn
Lyrical, beautiful, meditative, makes us feel calm thank you 🙏
Sir, you’re living so many people’s dream. Love these videos, thank you so much for bringing us along on this amazing journey you’re on!
Looks like Martijn: that you have the ideal environment to practice the Wim Hof method, not that I think you need it. Keep safe my friend and have a safe and happy Christmas. Richard
A+ for the roof!
Nothing better than watching your new video while drinking a hot cup of coffee on a relaxing sunday morning!
Well worth the time watching this. Pleasure level is very high on the scale.
Thank you.
I totally agree with Ms Clara von Essen, You are a great communicator! I live in a tropical country, and I felt cool today waching yor video.
It made me so excited to see you drawing/painting! What a perfect place to gather inspiration
Hav…I wish I could have seen your first awful painting ! 😂
Hi Sarah! I watch your beautiful vlogs on Scotland, another breathtakingly gorgeous place.
@Denis Jackson He is such a remarkable person & an artist soul- it would have been beautiful: have you seen his cycling trip videos?
Magic as always... how magic is waking up with the snow!
Watching since the first video!
Hi Floris! Thanks for helping.
It's so beautiful there. I live in Arizona in the US. Watching you as you make tremendous progress. All the best as you start your painting journey
You know …the work you do..the videos..is stunning. Your painting will be awesome too. Thank you for sharing.
Breathtaking, thank you as always for sharing your time. I look forward to seeing your art progress, like everything you do, I am sure you will master it. Blessings from Ireland ☘️🎄☘️
