Here is a simple way to smooth out solid wood end caps with plywood. I will explain why I think that it works well.

Good idea, you can use also flush trim bit on router
That true Edi, and I did try that. But you do have to make a jig for the router, because trying to get a flush trim to work on A three-quarter inch edge is somewhat difficult. But it absolutely can be done. I find that standing still gave me the smoothest transition between Plywood and solid wood.
