The system reduced the impact speed by an average of 9 mph in the 12 mph track test and by 7 mph in the 25 mph test. Its warning component also meets NHTSA criteria.
The i3’s only available headlight system earns an acceptable rating.

I never realized how magical side curtain airbags are. Amazing.
For the ppl saying its bad that it continued after it hit the wall: its actually really good because the passengers experience much less force due to it not slowing down much. So they actually purposely engineered the car to do this and Volvo is known to do the same.
Don’t think physics is even something people know/care anymore.
That is true as F = ma, a mass deceleration causes a massive force that’s potentially lethal to passengers inside.

It doesnt matter. It weighs little, so in case of crash it will be thrown back sustaining instant deseleration, so you wont survive, even if the inner space is intact.
it weighs about 1300 kg. Thats pretty normal.

The fact it did better than the Tesla Model S which is 2x its cost is commendable. The carbon fiber body really isn't only for show; it is quite sturdy little thing.

Carbon fiber is never cheap & never will be; steel will be cheaper but significantly heavier.
Trades46 most likely with the tesla software, the car would've detected the wall in front and not even crash in the first place.

Yeah, but its electri . Real cars burn dinosaurs. Plus it's a BMW, and they're great, don't get me wrong, but buying one out of warranty is a terrible idea unless you know what you're doing

I see BMW adopted a similar strategy to Volvo in 25% front collision, which is pretty nice. By slide-passing the obstacle, occupants experience much less g in the collision. That’s why the dummy even didn’t need to touch the airbag.
This really requires engineering effort.

this my 1st time to see the wheel came off completely from the body (wheel,tie-rod, balljoint, brake, bearing) but still have good result. Because the wheel help to reduce impact especially small overlap crash. Nice.
Nah, that's designed in and it must be so. The wheel would otherwise wedge itself under the A pillar causing intrusion in the footwell. Volvo has pioneered that design since the small overlap tests were introduced to address the problem.
It's satisfying how modern cars have all these safety equipment installed.
If I worked there I would prank my coworkers by smashing their vehicles.

I see that small cars like i3 preserve the interior safe. But I still think that the impact on a bigger model (whith same stars in test crash) gives you a softly desaceleration in a front crash. Am I right?
This car, even does not need frontal airbags, is very safe.

Bought a used in this color a few years ago for 13k, 30k miles. It was a very beautiful unique car. Would recommend, the only downside is the horrible range

+Makis Simatos Lol, no. The Chevy Volt is better; half the electric range, not limited to only being a city car, and much cheaper. The Model 3 outshines it (quite a bit) in performance, handling, range (by a LOT might I add), charging network, looks (though this is subjective), interior space/trunk/frunk space, "cool" factor, tech, is also not limited to being a city car, all at a similar price. Heck, even the leaf has more range than this thing, at a much lower cost... And once this thing is out of warranty, it's done for. There's a reason why their resale values are so low. Excellent deal used, terrible overpriced car when bought brand new.
