  • I filmed this video in August of 2021, with UA-cam being the furthest thing from my mind. Had I have known then what I know now, I would have done a far better job of filming.
At this point I’d been exploring this aircraft and the rest of the museum (on minimal sleep) for several hours and was quite tired. Hence my moans and groans.

*There are three ( 3 ) more... One at Castle, AFB, one in Tucson, one in Nebraska...*

I saw the B36 City of Fort Worth before she was moved to her current home in Arizona. Never had the privilege of going inside one. That flight engineer's station is NUTZ!

as a 10 year old kid living in Tucson Arizona in the mid 1950`s near Davis/Monthan AFB i saw the last B-36 fly near my house and land for the last time. the TV news said it was coming in so i waited, you could hear the engines drone, very different sound and the windows of my house rattled.

Very cool! I've been to the museum and was impressed by the exterior. That's great that the museum has made the interior available for viewing too (at least to a degree). Thanks for sharing.

Ah the SAC museum’s B-36. She is one of the best preserved planes I’ve seen

Okay, now for ultimate realism you need to mount your cockpit on the roof of your house.

Earlier I suggested he mount it on a VW bug chassis and use it around town as his daily driver.

I really appreciate this video it really puts your ambitious project into perspective. Your ability to create is admirable I hope you achieve the goal you have in mind. My Dad was in the air force in 1985-1989 maybe he’d seen one of these at some point who knows.

I've never seen the inside of one of these, gives new respect to the guys who flew them back in the day! Thanks for an interesting vid!

Its amazing how the B-36 makes the B-52 look kind of small. Ive been to Ashland 4 or 5 times now and the '36 is always impressive. Love the SR in the atrium too

My dad was in the AF while these were in service. He went in to become an aircraft engine mechanic, but that never materialized. At some point during the fairly early part of his enlistment, he asked to be let out of the AF since they didn't hold up their end of the bargain. I don't know how, because the details are murky (and it's him telling the story) but he received a medical discharge. When he tells the story, he says he told them to shove it, he wasn't picking up another cigarette butt (not a smoker). I don't know what to believe, but it's a story he's told me 100 times over the years. "I told the Air Force to shove it!" My best guess is that he has had a hidden learning disability his whole life, possibly dyslexia.
He was stationed at some big base called Chanute, which was either Illinois or Nebraska, depending on which time he tells the story. Big SAC base somewhere in the midwest, circa late 50s, early 60s, I guess.

Chanute would have been an amazing place when your father was there. So many different types of aircraft always coming and going.

do you mean the SAC museum? if you guys open that up on a regular basis i would love to come down there to look at your plane, i have not been there in years at this point.

    • @BigBoiLoses
      @BigBoiLoses Місяць тому

@@__ASAAA that’s the thing. We don’t really open her up for just anybody. I think you have to really talk to restorations ahead of time and plan it out.

@@BigBoiLoses well, I’ve been a staff member at an air museum in northwest Iowa for two years now. We have a similar policy tho. Our 727 cockpit is only open when someone (usually me) is up there just to make sure no one steals or breaks anything. Pretty sad that that’s the way it has to go though.

*This B-36 is in HORRIBLE SHAPE! The reason it looks so funny is because of masking the corrosion. Looks better inside than the external skin and around the propellers*

Is that the plane they're building almost from scratch? If so, where did they obtain the parts and pieces?

Military pilots are skinny and small, those cockpits were tiny. C130 has plenty of room. 🎉
