  • 4L Oxebar Keg - The Best Party Beer Keg Yet?
    It is now time to share my thoughts and everything you need to know about the new 4L Oxebar kegs as they are very close to release in Europe, the US and beyond.
    Certainly the 8L Oxebar kegs have been very popular with brewers, including myself, due to how long they can keep your beer fresh along with a very good budget friendly price.
    This new 4L size though is bound to appeal to a much larger range of people, including those that are not necessarily brewers too.

    I also ferment under pressure in the 8 Liter ones. The Fermzilla is just too big for my small batches. Have never had a problem with leaking so far.

      Great to hear. Yes the leaking was simply down to a bad batch of PRVs, easy to fix but history now.

    Have been meaning to grab one of these for a cleaning keg. I use a recycled 2l coke bottle with a Kegland party pump. 2l is not usually enough for my system. It works but I have to refill the bottle a couple times before I clean everything. One of these should solve that problem.

    For a super small set-up like mine (10litre batches a handful of times a year) these promise to be a cost and space effective way to switch from bottling to kegging. They are small enough to fit in a regular fridge without the need for a dedicated Kegerator.
    I wish Kegland would design it slim enough to fit upright in the door of an average family fridge with the tapping head and tap on. It would make pouring a pint a breeze.

      Yes for sure.
      The structure is shaped like this for stability when working with such polymer blends. You can serve from this via the ball locks with the keg on its side.

      That's great. A four litre keg will be a Nice addition to my two eight litre ones, as I always end up with twenty litre batches. These are great products I have recomended to quite a few friends who got into kegging after me. I believe it was one of your videos which made me try Cornelius kegging a couple of years ago now. Keep up the good work, David!

    I like the ability to see how much is left in the keg. Or how much you are transferring into the keg. Maybe I need one.

    Hi David. Love your videos. Im a newbie and have ordered 5 4l Oxebar kegs and one of the tapping heads. I used 5 l mini kegs in the past and primed with a requiste amount of brewing sugar to condition the beer. Can I condition beer in these adding by adding a small amount of priming sugar and using the basic screw cap. Or do I need to order a tapping cap for each keg? Sorry im a kit and kilo guy and a newbie. Ive also bought your suggested nukatap and flow control and will be ordering thr 360 kegaland mini regulator.

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Місяць тому

      Great to hear, thank you. You can add sugar for priming, no problem there. The tapping heads are useful for co2 carbonation though.

    David, When you keg into either an 8 or 4 L Oxebar do you always fit a tapping head? have you found a way to keg, carbonate and switch the tapping head out for a screwcap for storage Later reinstalling a tapping head when you want to drink the contents.. ?

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  2 місяці тому +1

      Personally, I have always fit a tapping head so far when filling. However, you could use sugar to carbonate though and then fit the tapping head later.

    I've used to oxebar 8L for transferring small remains in the corny kegs and also for kegging a few test batches. How do you transfer o2-free to the oxebar from the fermenter without clogging the filter on the oxebar? So far I've left the filter off for those transfers..

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew

      I would say short term this would be to use co2 cartridges, however a quality regulator that can accept sodastream bottles is best long term. Here would be my suggestion:- KegLand Mini 360 Core Actuator Regulator

      Not the opening of the oxebar, it is PCO38.

    I bought a few 8L Oxebar kegs as sets. All of these kegs leaking CO2 heavily and therefore basically useless for keeping any beer in these. I tried to exchange the pressure valves and all the stuffs with no effect. Just waste of money although was not an expensive investment.

    Note: I like many kegland products.

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  3 місяці тому +1

      Why would that be? I have been using the 8L and 4L Oxebar kegs regularly for quite some time without issue.

    • @Frank-a-rooney
      @Frank-a-rooney 3 місяці тому +2

      Yeah, why? No point just saying you don’t recommend them without explaining your reasoning. I had sealing issues at the start, it was the prv. Tightened it up and been fine since. Then I had issues with product not coming out, but that was user error, I had the tube too long and it was sealing itself up at the elbow.
      I can’t say I LOVE them, but they’re bloody handy at times and a heck of a lot cheaper than a 9.5 litre corny keg (even with all the hardware - by themselves they’re almost disposable cheap! Although I don’t advocate anyone use plastic products like that)…

      Sorry, I should have explained myself more.
      The set up can be finicky.
      Unscrewing the cap can be a problem when not under pressure.
      The least reliable part on the oxebar is the silicone elbow.
      Fitment is a can be a pain.
      I had one split and I could not figure out why it was not pushing liquid (like sucking on a straw with a crack).
      Kegland in the USA is limited to the quality of the reseller.
      The stiff white tube cut needs to be placed in the correct position.
      The filter on the tube position can often keep you from getting the maximum amount of beer out.
      I think getting a used cheap Cornelius keg and swapping out the ball lock posts is more reliable and easier to clean.
      It is also not as flimsy.
      A Cornelius keg is proven to last for decades and the oxebar is nearly disposable.
      Lastly, you can't do an Eisbock in it 👍
      Mainly, I really don't like the little silicone elbow.

    • @NathanKraemer
      @NathanKraemer 2 місяці тому

      Also I had an issue with one of the PCO 1881 ball locks, but the newer design is better.
      I love using those with a Coca-Cola style 2l bottle (sprite or ginger ale bottle).
