Just saw this last part of the resto only today. But when I saw the front panel my first thought was this has the look and style of my 1990 flagship Pioneer VSX-D1S AVR. Looks great and the wooden sides, just like the Elite line from Pioneer and my Sony TC-WR901ES cassette deck.😮 I gave it away sadly, what I miss are all the analog rca connections, tape loop, LD, 3 VCR, CD etc. Today I have the Elite 4K SC-LX701 AVR since 2016 with Dolby Atmos. So I’m not missing the mono rear surrounds from the VSX-D1S, lol. I’m considering buying a Sony 3 head deck, like the K890ES. Those look so clean inside. No rats nest of wires making for a complicated restoration or maintenance. You wouldn’t happen to have one that’s been serviced ? Subbed to your channel and will watch your videos going fwd. Best wishes.
As much as I like what you’ve done to that Pioneer, I’m already invested with the mid to late nineties Sony ES w/Dolby S decks. I started with the TC-WR 801ES, gave that away, started up again with my home theater and wanted to get my older analog gear set up and running. Found a TC-WR 901ES on Tape Heads from a tech who had a FS listing and it was just perfect timing to buy it, was just given an extensive tune up too. I’ve been wanting to get a second deck that would complement my existing one. The Sony K890 ES would be a nice one, but as I’m watching your videos I’m getting a better sense of certain high end Sony’s respond better to upgrading/modifications as you’ve shown. That they sound as good or better than Nak decks from your precise tuning is a testimony to your skills and dedication to this niche hobby. I applaud your efforts and hope to find a deck that can be upgraded the way you’ve done so well. Thanks. I’m learning as I watch your vids. I work in electronics, milk spec, now for 3+ decades and soon to retire maybe 2025 ? 🙏🏼 But I would love to get involved with vintage restorations. NOS replacement parts for Nakamichi are dwindling, so they could become an endangered species b4 too long.😢
@@AnnaVannieuwenhuyse well, they afect sound quality and distorsion. also every solid state switch is not linear and high resistance like 4066 from japan has around 120ohm, texas instruments 240 ohm, best max4066 has 60 ohms, relay 0 ohms. more resistance more thd distortions. relays and manual switch doesnt affect sound at all. there way more problems with electrolitics then good relays. if people are using contact spray cleaners and yes, they are killing with a time every switch and potentiometers. proper restoration by opening them and clean them inside restore them to brand new conditions for at least 20 years.

nice one, also its so good with this deck the monitor switch is over relays not ic chip.
I prefer analog IC switches because of their lower incidence of issues
