What actually happened in the puffer fish news was that the ayi stole the puffer hanging on a bicycle. The puffer fish belongs to someone in the same community. The owner found out his fish was stolen and became really worried. Because he knew the fish was very poisonous. So he went to find the community property management company for help. They went around in the community using a speaker to tell everyone the fish was poisonous. The ayi heard what they were saying on the speaker and thought they were just lying. @@FukaiKokoro Hahaha...yeah, that doesn't happen in the US very often. Even when I was a kid, all anyone could talk about for a couple of weeks was one burglar who fell through someone's roof while trying to rob the family, and sued the homeowner for his medical bills. This was such a sensational tale to equality/fairness-minded Americans that it managed to spread as an urban legend (may or may not have happened, but it was spread word of mouth) despite happening before the internet. I didn't see it on the national news, but if it were on national news, that would go to show the rarity of the occurrence of these frivolous lawsuits in the US. Think again about the burglar story, would ya? This wasn't taking place in feudal Japan where a lithe thief might use ninja-adjacent skills to traverse a grand rooftop of a large residential compound to avoid the torch-wielding guards, then drop down to the sliding door of the lord's chambers while he was entertaining guests in the banquet hall. This story was said to take place in a suburban stand-alone residence. Burglars don't typically bother climbing on to rooftops when it's faster to just have a van back up to a house they know the residents are away from for the night, smash a window, get someone to open the front door, then grab whatever they can in a few minutes while the neighbors are groggily trying to sort themselves out enough to call the police or grab a weapon. Even the famous story of the McDonald's coffee lawsuit is a case in point. It was a rare event, and filled an entertainment niche in American (and EVERY OTHER COUNTRIES') news cycles. It's not just Americans that love a sensational lawsuit(even if it was filed in desperation by a burglar seeking an excuse to avoid prison). Everyone does. @@jakoblarok Slight correction on the now infamous McDonald's Coffee lawsuit. It wasn't frivolous at all! The reason why the cofffee was hotter than it was supposed to? In Beijing only 2000 plates for motorbikes were issued starting with an A. These are allowed everywhere in the city. To get one now costs like 200K now if they come up for sale. We were stopped often as we had some cheap litttle scooter and the cops were always suspicious that we had a plate that was like 20 times more worth than the scooter. It had to be a fake...and when it turned out to be the real deal they called their collegues over to witness this rare event. After a few years I think they were briefed before their shift that there was this scooter that had a real A plate as we were always waved through if they had a stop action to inspect plates. I was always surprised how this worked with the cops. For example there was this weird rule you had to re-register with the police if you returned from abroad. As I travelled every month abroad after a few times going to the local police station the cop told me just to give him a call when I would return or just show my face and say hi without any re-registration taking place, saved everyone a lot of time.

Hey guys, just a bit of nerdy trivia. In Australia our area codes ( postcodes) are 4 numbers, the first number tells us which state we are in. If it is followed by zeros it is within the CBD of the capital city of that state (2000,2001 being Sydney for example) or surrounding suburbs. So 2200 is in NSW around Bankstown…

3:00 Canada Day is based on the day our Constitution Act took place in 1867. It united 3 separate provinces in Canada together to be part of the British rule, and was officially called "Canada". Basically, Canada Day celebrates a unified country within the British empire, but America's Independence day is a literal polar-opposite declaration of independence from British rule.

🥚cellent show as usual, your personal encounter with CCP is special, relatively fresh and always correct. Stay awesome!😊
Hi from Canada 🇨🇦👋🏼I watched you guys on your cross China tour. It was incredibly fun and I learned a lot. You’re still doing an amazing job, keep it up.

Also, ~ 49:00, that bit about them scaling up containment facilities and then scrapping them just reminds me of how some people plays RTS games. Pump out a bunch of peasants, build a lot of resource gathering facilities, start building production facilities, kill off the serfs (because of unit caps), then crank out the military units and steamroll the opponents who are scaling up gradually [no I'm not in the "but they get things done camp" - humans and pixels aren't the same]. Crows could do what a pigeon can but are smart enough to know a bad deal
Crows are one of the few animals that will actually use tools. Definitely interesting animals
Nope. Pigeons are wired differently. Once a pigeon is imprinted on home, it will return. And can return, over absurd distances. Crows are more flexible. Far better problem solvers. They adapt and make do. They may return. They may not. Different beast. If you can make a crow return to your home after it has been dropped s thousand km from your home after being brought there blindfolded, and even if, beat the time of the pigeon... No crows can do things pigeons cab not. Pigeons cam do things crown can not.
@@tjallingdalheuvel126A pigeon can of course choose another home. Hench why I can see flocks of wild pigeons with some oddly white members.

It was called Dominion Day until 1982! “A federal statutory holiday, it celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867, with the passing of the British North America Act, 1867, when the three separate colonies of the United Canadas, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada.” So at least ours is on the actual day the stuff happened lol, US independence was ratified on July 2nd.
…did anything by reaaally happen though? You all just had to give the royal family more taxes because we stopped.
@oldirtycosmos lol what did Canada actually do?
Also according to Google Independence Day. On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, announcing the colonies' separation from Great Britain
We love you, Canada, and that means you never have to say you're sorry. ...Though you probably will, any how.
Finland: go Independent in July, but ket's celebrate in December. 😕
Which part pays homage to Canada not becoming independent from the British crown until 1982?
Egg. Chicken eggs, or maybe fish eggs? Not bad. However I must articulate that my favourite kind of egg is the colourful egg of mother nature: grapes.
July 1, 1867: The British North America Act (today known as the Constitution Act, 1867) created Canada.
Thanks from Canada ✌️🍁

Foreign students reportedly pay full tuition at American universities while many if not most American students are on some sort of scholarship or grant. That gives American universities a huge incentive to invite foreign students, including Chinese students, and ignore whether they are gathering U.S. technology to take back to China.
Great trade off. Get full tuition, but sell out your country’s crucial research/info/tech to evil enemies? 😮
Same in Australia
Same for American students in China, they have to pay full tuition and for locals it’s much cheaper
Chinese students in US are now not the largest group. People from India have taken this spot.

I'm from Ohio and long time sub ! Thanks for the shout out.

Platypuses are awesome. Besides the males having poison spurs, platypus "bills" are actually hyper-sensitive snouts they use to detect prey.

I can't wait for Episode 617 so I can get my shout-out. 😂
I tend to listen to the episodes over a few days during my dog walks. So I can finally say...egg!
Saudi Arabia wasn’t on that visa-free list, either…? Oooohh, what’d they do to piss off China?? Is it the oil? lol 😂

Instead of the shrimp, Bubba from *Forrest Gump* describes various egg dishes:
1. **Scrambled Eggs**: "You can scramble 'em, just whisk 'em up and cook 'em till they're fluffy."
2. **Fried Eggs**: "You can fry 'em, sunny side up or over easy."
3. **Boiled Eggs**: "You can boil 'em, hard or soft."
4. **Poached Eggs**: "You can poach 'em, cook 'em in water till they're just right."
5. **Omelette**: "You can make an omelette, fill it with cheese, veggies, or ham."
6. **Deviled Eggs**: "You can devil 'em, mix the yolks with mustard and mayo."
7. **Egg Salad**: "You can make egg salad, mix boiled eggs with mayo and seasoning."
8. **Eggs Benedict**: "You can make Eggs Benedict, with poached eggs, ham, and hollandaise sauce on an English muffin."
9. **Quiche**: "You can bake 'em in a quiche, with a crust and all sorts of fillings."
10. **Frittata**: "You can make a frittata, like an omelette but baked in the oven."
Thanks for helping me understand what the names of cooked eggs mean

Imagine how great China would be if it was a democracy.
We don't need to imagine, we can just look at Taiwan. That's probably why the CCP hates them so much: they demonstrate to the world and the mainland Chinese how well China could have done for itself without the communist party's dictatorship.
Read up on China's history. They will never operate as a democracy if you knew the culture and their predispositions. They've always been authoritarian even when they had Emperors - and a lot of them were tyrannical jerks who only cared about themselves.
