Be aware when trying this with an Atlas. They are made with a stronger stainless steel and it doesnt bend easily. I still had to take the bottom and side off, not hard but just a bit more work. Still I've been meaning to take the fenders off and this gave me the push to do it. Now my machine is nice and clean. Thanks Samantha ❤
most Marcado and Atlas machines have a screw on the side without the thickness dial. You can remove that and then use a wrench to remove the bold inside that allows you to open up the one side so that you can easily remove the fenders and even the blades to clean. No need for a husband.😆 I have a video on my youtube channel showing how. This won't work on all machines, but most of them do come apart this way.
@@Yosofool I was just suggesting that you can easily remove the fenders by removing the one side, instead of having to go at them with pliers and possibly cutting yourself or marring your rollers.
This was SOOOOO helpful. It took a bit of work to get the fender off but worth the effort. I cleaned out enough clay to make a bead core, ha ha, Thanks, Samantha
Wowwwwww! Thank you so much! I never would have thought to take those off! I've been running a dirty piece of white clay through before I used a light color clay. This took me about 20 minutes start to finish. So easy!
Oh my, I never even thought about that the clay could (does) get stuck in the machine like that!!! my mind is blown! Thank you SO MUCH for this useful info! now I know what I need to do first thing in the morning....yep, get those fenders off! :D 💜 I just got a new one, so there wont be much in there (only used it 2 times) but it´s better to get that done right away so you can keep an eye on it :)
I think taking off the end with the handle (or both ends) might be a better way to go. This allows you full access to the hidden sides of the scrapers, so you can do a thorough clean of them every few months. Also you can then remove the fenders without bending them with pliers, so you can still get better access to do a frequent clean of the blades with a wooden barbecue skewer or similar. You do need access to a few simple tools to take the side(s) off and the job is quite fiddly.

Great video, Samantha, thank you 🌟! I had the cracked plastic blades issue with my first (secondhand) machine and just last week bought a new one. I will be removing the guards today 😊
Ok. I will try it this way. I have one sitting still unassembled because I took it apart. I’ve wanted to take my fenders off the atlas’s for a long long time but was scared to after I couldn’t get one back together!!As alway, thanks Samantha!
For people with an Atlas 180 - I was able to remove the fenders off using this plier method! It was tough, since the metal is quite strong, but with patience and strength (I did have “guy” help) they’re now off and I am a happy camper!!!
Hey Jess thankyou for all the tips you have inspired three generations. however for cleaning your Pasta machine all you need is one foot and a power wash if its a hand fed stainless steel one. thanks again, stay safe stay home and candy cane xxx
With an old Atlas 150...built like a tank...I found (when working the 2nd side) that pulling the fender from the bottom first gave me more leverage. Also in the front of the roller area there are sharp screws under the fender holding the enclosure on, so I glued small round beads on the points so neither the clay nor my hands get jabbed!
Great idea! I was struggling to clean my newly purchased for-clay pasta machine and even considering a motorized one (easier on my 69 year old joints). Still might get the motorized one though and use manual for traveling.
I am in the same boat. Motors were around about a year or to ago but thought no, I can keep doing it. After another round of injections into my shoulder joints on Tuesday and an extremely bad tennis elbow on my dominate arm, I think I too will be looking more diligently for a motor. Good luck in your hunt.
I pulled my machine apart starting with the base plate and the the side screws and so on the whole machine comes apart for cleaning this also alluded me to add grease to the cogs that the rollers have hidden under the sides. As for the clay between the rollers and blades I use the smallest crochet hook that you can get which is made of stainless steel the hook helps to pull the clay out. The guards are there to stop the clay dropping on the back of the roller unless you are holding the clay the whole time your rolling it which is not easy to do while turning the handle. Since adding a machine to mine the guards come in handy as I can focus on the clay feed out and not the clay feed in. As for cleaning the machine I clean it every time I use it as some of my clays leach colour on some of them special the dark reds and it leaves colour on the rollers I have found that a baby wipe can be feed between the rollers and blade and you can slide it back and forth while the rollers are turning and it helps to remove the clay from the blades and roller at the same time just cut the baby wipes into one inch strips as this helps to feed between the rollers and blades. I have found the best way to clean the machine is to pull it apart at least once every other month so all the parts can be cleaned including the cogs and they get regressed before putting it all back together again. As this does take time it’s best to have two machines one for working with and one that you can strip down and clean.😊😊😊😊😊
Very interesting. I don't use clay, but I often use colored dough. Is there any drawback to removing the fenders other than the look? I'm tempted to do this myself now.
@@JessamaTutorials ...you don't have to smash the fenders like you did to remove them. If you just undo the screws they come right off without destroying them. Much easier too.
Thank you for this tutorial. I am new at this and am trying to figure out why my clay keeps sticking to the other roller. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Just when I'm all ready to start my adventure. Any ideas? I love your work though. But I keep running into roadblocks.
Hi Jessama, thank you for the tutorial, very helpful. I left my pasta machine to my parent's country. That one was not very sturdy, and handle used to come out. Can you please suggest where I can get a good machine for polymer clay projects. May I know from where you bought yours?
Hi there, i have cleaned my machine in all places i can see, but i am still getting streals of black clay on my white clay especially on thin settings. What do i do?
Lovely tutorial on cleaning. I have to admit I was shocked at how you wrenched off the tabs on the fenders/guards - I have removed mine by pressing in the sides with a clamp to create more space then pulling the tab back then up, and with the slack the others come out with a wiggle at most. Replacing it is the same in reverse and taking the clamps off (I needed to remove a foreign object little fingers had posted.) Those same little fingers are the reason I need to leave the guard on. I suppose the plastic inside is fine for normal/pasta use, but polymer clays effect some plastics (I now wonder if the machines labeled specificly as for polymer clay take this into account, or if they just rebrand and up the price tag?) Anyway, nice tutorial :)
It's a bit more complicated with an atlas 150. The fenders are heavier, they won't bend like this. You have to remove several sets of screws. It is doable though. I confess I relied on husband but I am not handy like that. It takes both metric and other tools, or it did for us. But ..... we got er' done and cleaning will be so much better!
For a while I had both the guards and the scrapers removed on my machine. The clay would just spin around endlessly. It made beautiful blended colors, but if I wanted to make a sheet, I had to reach under with my fingers and grab it.
You'll need to check the pasta machine. My metal flaps were slotted into a gap on each side of the machine. Some machines have their flaps fussed to the rest of the machine.
Do you put the fenders back on or leave them off? I have an older machine with metal blades on the bottom. I’ve not been able to clean it properly and always makes such a horrible noise when I turn the crank. Bought a new pasta machine and haven’t used it yet. But I can see now it has plastic bottom blade. Wouldn’t of known that without this video. Thank you!
No. This won't work with all machines. You need to check that the fenders are attached the same way as mine before trying to remove them. It's fairly easy to see if they are attached by four small flaps or if the whole thing is attached.
I was able to remove the fenders off my Atlas 180 using this plier method - it was tough, since the metal is quite strong, but with patience and strength (I did have “guy” help) they’re now off!!!

Awww too bad. Do you currently recommend a particular pasta machine. How would I know if a model has plastic blades? I was looking on Amazon but didn’t see any designation although I only looked superficially as I was looking for the brand you mentioned. Right now I am using an actual pasta machine but it’s bigger and bulkier. I want to get an actual polymer clay “pasta” machine.
I'm afraid it's luck of the draw. I didn't know the machine had metal blades before I bought it. Most machines have the plastic blades I'm afraid. Older machines are more likely to have metal blades.

it should be on top of finding, what the waste for the big company without the instruction of assemble or disassemble. It took me half of the day search for this video, although there is a machine screws on the side, you can take it off and take out of the fenders easier.
Wonderful! I'm getting ready to remove my guards! Thanks. Question: I have a cheap pasta machine and I've always wondered about thickness settings on cheap pasta rollers. So many have Marcato Atlas brand pasta machines and I was wondering if you have a favorite brand. Thanks for all of the help and excellent tutorials!
I pretty much use cheap pasta machines too. I don't really have a preferred brand. What I like to do is buy four machines. One for black, one of warm color, one for cool colors and the other for white. This isn't necessary, but is easier to do if the machines are cheap.
Are the blades necessary too (sorry perhaps stupid question). wondering if the rollers are enough? This would be even easier to clean as my clay still gets caught in there

Brilliant...thanks so much. I’m off to get rid of mine now 😃 👌
Awesome!!! And brilliant!
Can you please recommend the best brand pasta roller for rolling clay?
An Atlas machine is the best, but I use cheap ebay machines that I replace each year.
❤ hello what brand of pasta machine is that thanks
I used a Kmart brand.
I’d like to know if this is with any clay machine I have a atlas marcato 180
You'll need to check the pasta machine. My metal flaps were slotted into a gap on each side of the machine. Some machines have their flaps fussed to the rest of the machine.
@@JessamaTutorials thank you so much for taking the time to answer you’re tutorials have tought me so much ! You’re awsome ❤️
Thank you!
I leave the fenders off. They don't serve a purpose for me and it's easier to keep them off.
Jessama Tutorials oh that’s good to know! I just got an atlas 150 and if I can still use it with the fenders off that would be nice.
I took mine off ages ago and was so happy.
Merci pour cette vidéo très utile, cela marche t il pour toutes les marques de machines? J'ai une Atlas180? Merci
No. This won't work with all machines. You need to check that the fenders are attached the same way as mine before trying to remove them. It's fairly easy to see if they are attached by four small flaps or if the whole thing is attached.
@@JessamaTutorials merci beaucoup je vais essayer
I was able to remove the fenders off my Atlas 180 using this plier method - it was tough, since the metal is quite strong, but with patience and strength (I did have “guy” help) they’re now off!!!
Very interesting video Samantha! What is the make of the pasta roller you were altering please?
I tend to use cheap eBay pasta machines like this one. www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-Steel-Spaghetti-Lasagne-Fettuccine-Sheets-Pasta-Maker-Cutter-Machine/312434944161?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D225074%26meid%3D524c81dfcd6641608b00953c4746fbd0%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D8%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D313060062092%26itm%3D312434944161%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWebWithBBEV2bDemotionZeroArw%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Thanks Samantha, very helpful. I didn’t even know there were blades near the rollers. Can you provide a link to the pasta machine with metal blades? Thank you
I'm afraid I can't find the machine I bought on eBay. I bought it a few years ago.

@@safehavensanctuary-hollyg.8814 I got this pasta machine from Amazon and it's all stainless steel! I really like it, does the job :) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072JH952T?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I made a rookie mistake of using pointy metal stuff to clean the blades, leaving it with dent. Any advice how to fix?
I'm afraid not. They're dented permanently now.
Большое спасибо за совет. Я ни как не могла хорошо почистить свою машинку. Теперь я знаю, что надо делать... Правда, было бы замечательно, если бы можно было снять и нижние пластины... И все же, огромное спасибо за видео...
Brilliant, thank you!!
it should be on top of finding, what the waste for the big company without the instruction of assemble or disassemble.
@@JessamaTutorials Thank you!
Thank you that's a great idea.
Gracias, ya se lo quite me quedó muy bien. Eres un genio. 👍🏼
Thank you. This brilliant.
Great tip ! Do you think I can make it on an Imperia ?
Yes. The Imperia is a pretty good pasta machine from what I've heard.
Yaaaasss thank you for sharing!!!! ✌💕
Very helpful.
Just had ago...its so nice & easy to do. Thank you
Thank you sooooo much! So helpful!!!💜
Are the blades necessary too (sorry perhaps stupid question). wondering if the rollers are enough? This would be even easier to clean as my clay still gets caught in there
Yes. Cleaning the blades is the most important part. The clay get stuck on them and will slowly chip away while you're rolling.
The blades are necessary to keep the clay from sticking to the rollers and wrapping back around again.
Thank you! So important to know!
Da da. Thank-you for showing this. Easy.
Thank you
Sorry, I'm a newbie. Can you not replace the blades?
No. I'm afraid you can't.
Lol gritting my teeth while i watch you do it
Thanks that was really helpful
hi, screwdriver simple FLAT not cross one works even beter for me - use as lever :) (couldn´t get under fender with thick pliers on one side of machine). thank you for your great tutorials :)
