Michael Jackson 20th Anniversary Gardner Elementary Dedication + Luckiest Kid In School

- It was on October 11th, 1989, at Gardner Elementary School, In Hollywood, CA , that Michael Jackson blessed us all with his presence to be honored and have the school auditorium dedicated to him. I was in 4th grade and had been selected to present the KING OF POP with the "KEY to the SCHOOL." I was nervous but poised because i was meeting someone i admired and idolized for his creativity, music and dancing. I hope that someday they removed the boards that now cover up his name due to his child molestation allegations. Luckily prior to presenting him the "Key to the school" i was introduced to him and his entourage backstage, as an icebreaker, i remember him pulling on my "DUCK TAIL" and asking me if i was planning on growing my hair our like his. I took a long pause and was nervous to answer but i said "no, sorry." In this video we also have the Gardner Elementary Choir performing with Michael Jackson and r&B/pop group The Boys. What i think is most amazing about this whole experience is the fact Michael Jackson realized he had the power to touch and affect many lives with his music and message, and it was one of the few times int he midst of the cold war and other trials and tribulations of the last century that people could come together and sing n dance as one.

I am a part of the efforts to get MJ's name uncovered. I have to say that after watching this video, It breaks my heart even more. This was a moment in time that was so cherished by MJ and all the children who got to sing for him. It is very much a travesty that the school was so quick to judge him and condemn him when they met him in person, felt his presence that was genuine. How could they ever think he was guilty? The love & happiness towards children resonates right through this video~!
You're the kid that gave him the key?!! Wow! I always thought that kid was so funny and adorable! :) What an incredible memory to cherish. I never got to see Michael once, not even in concert :( Michael looks beautiful as always.
when the kids starting singing "we are the world" I couldn't help but start crying! this is so beautiful...so very sweet and amazing. if only michael could have had a smoother road to walk, but those idiots that lied and tried to get at his money ruined everything. he stood tall though and never left the high road...the good path of life. God bless mj forever.

Thanks for sharing the amazing video! Do you have the part where he is unveiling the sign? I'd love to see it. You were such a good speaker at that age (I don't think I would have been able to do it. I would have fainted!). Wow, you got to meet our King of Pop. The kid at 4:17, another lucky one to have Michael stand right beside him. Look at the kid's face, he was watching Michael in such awe.

I will never forget him putting his hand on my shoulder that day. I was so scared, but when he started singing it just lit up the room. Thank you so much for posting this, I thought I would never be able to see this again.

Just beautiful! It's so good to see Michael back at his old school being respected. it's good also I'm sure for him to reflect on how he'd come in his life since he was their age, except he was an extraordinary child, which perhaps made his journey a little easier. It's also great that the children can see Michael, who must have been such an inspiration for all of them. Lovely to see Michael smiling. So glad his name has bee rightfully uncovered. Congratulations to the school for this.
Aww.... It's almost on the same date that they took the boards off. And next week (Oct 19th) will be the re-dedication.

It's official: Michael Jackson's name has been restored and uncovered on the Gardner Street Elementary School Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. It's the Michael Jackson Auditorium again after seven long years (2003-2010).

it's too late to make something in order to uncover his name...but you have to know there's a group on fb who collected letters all over the word and on april 12 they'll go personally at Gardner School to talk to THE PRINCIPAL Mr. Kenneth Urbina and give him all letters...I hope he could take the right decision...I'm Italian and I sent two letters ;)
I sang too, for the longest I have searched for this video, and until today I finally have proof that I sang We Are The World with Michael, Thanks for finally posting it, Michael will always be in my heart. I was the 3rd little girl on the first row from left to right.
