Ha, I've never noticed that before. Well spotted! However, I don't think it's braille. In germany people can indicate their blindness by wearing a yellow armband with three black dots on it. So I think that's what they were refering to here.
First time I saw this movie was when I was 12 years old, and my German teachers decided to take us to the cinemas in 1998, when it was shown for the first time (I am from Sweden myself). I remember that we didn't know what to make out of it, and we were like "wtf was that?", but it left a big impression on me, and I started trying to find it again a few years later.
Man, I used to listen to the guy who narrates this for hours when I was a child. He did countless fairytale recordings. It's kind of creepy to hear a voice that familiar not talking about puss in boots...
The Eliot quotation at the beginning is: "“We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time.” (from Little Gidding). The Herberger is "After the game is before the game."
Probably one of the best Openings we have seen. Especially the Photographing the actors with their sign for the film is a very good idea! By the way... a GREAT film!
I first saw this at the dearly departed Cineplex Odeon Encore Worldwide (50th between 8th & 9th) for 2 bucks, then went over to my parents' place to see the folks, my cousin, and his wife (who were in town visiting)... I think we had something to eat, and that evening we all headed over to 86th (I guess it was 86th) and saw The Talented Mr. Ripley... that was a great f*cking day...
Tom Tykwer was and is a genuine breath of fresh air in the German film industry, an industry dominated by suited men interested only in appealing to focus-group-tested lowest-common-denominator morons with bland comedies, insipid romcoms, hollow romance films, kids' movies and condescendingly moralising war dramas.
One of my absolute favourite movies and one of the absolute best movie introdutions ever. It has such a power that you just want to watch on! Besides the DVD I also have a video cassette with English subtitles ^^
I remember that time I showed that film to my friends and nobody was able to sit down during the first five minutes and just watch the prologue without gasp.
@@apullcan I was born in a generation when people had more creative ideas for scripts, plus studios were not afraid to experiment. Today, its either a bunch plotless CGI money grabs or boring sequels.
One of the best films ever from Germany. I also liked Das Experiment which also had Moritz Bleibtreu but I think Das Boot could possibly be THE MOST POPULAR German-made flick ever. I don't how to describe this movie as an action flick, thriller or just an hour and a half of an adrenaline rush! The opening track was also used partially on one of the trailer versions of The Bourne Identity......which also had Franka Potente.
i live the life of a plant :) i like to think everythings random. im doing my coursework on the opening scenes :) yup thats how much of a geek i am. glad to knw other people found it as interesting as me though lol.
I'd like to know who calls this the best German film. Granted, it doesn't help that every person who teaches the German language feels obligated to show it in class for some reason. I thought this movie was decent, although completely lacking in character development. There are much better films out there, though.
forgot to add: still pretty much my favorites 5 minutes of film. of all time. fucking masterpiece.
Indeed

Agree with NorthSea.... REAL football, not that hand-egg rubbish.
I love that the blind woman's name is written in braille. Genius!

@@billfroug Ah, I didn't know that! Thank you for teaching me! I love cool little tidbits of knowledge like that.
@@SomethingSomethingg You're welcome :-)

The opening credits are editted really nicely! They are so pleasing to the eye! I love this film!
I rented this movie on a blind rent and ended up loving it!❤📺
Buying this film was one of the best choices my dad has ever made
Best intro ever
I LOVE this movie, especially the awesome title sequence! Every time I watch it, I get chills when the watch starts ticking.
This scene never gets old.
Such a brilliant movie
A masterpiece and brilliant film.
One of the best music movies there is!!!

Still powerful and unique.

I saw this film today in film class--it is really cool, with its three versions of a simple thriller.
The Eliot quotation at the beginning is: "“We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time.” (from Little Gidding). The Herberger is "After the game is before the game."

the best opening credits of all time. I remember the movie more for its opening than anything else.
I fell in love with this movie when i saw the opening credits

It is an awesome film. in my opinion, one of the best opening sequences.
Great movie, even greater intro. thanks for sharing
Can't stop watching! Maybe the best self critical Movie ever. Thanks to Tom Tykwer
best movie ever created......such a blast...and by the way, what about time ? one minute left ?
This movie was crazy!

Love this movie, and bought the soundtrack.
Going to see this at the cinema on Sunday. Totally excited
2:38 I am pretty sure that's where Jeff Lew inspired for Fighting Mood from Killer Bean lol, there is a part that sounds exactly same.
The scene with the swinging pendulum at 0:30 is very similar to the opening scene from the video game "Chrono Trigger" from 1995.
I remember that time I showed that film to my friends and nobody was able to sit down during the first five minutes and just watch the prologue without gasp.
Favourite European movies; 1. Amelie. 2 Run Lola Run
Probably one of my favourite German indie film
I’m glad to see it has a cult following even now
It´s a great and amazing intro
THANKS !!!!!!! :D
Mr bro just showed this to me today, its awesome.
The movie is great, and the opening is awesome!!
dont mean to sound like a broken record but they just dont make them like this anymore
Yes they do. You just have to look for them. They made plenty of crap "back then" that we simply forgot, making it seem like it was all good.
Well, to be fair they only made one movie ever like this. It was called Run Lola Run.
I just remember this intro through the intro of Enter the Void, so I wouldn't be so worried.
were you born in le wrong generation, Zev?

The hunger lasts forever❤️Forever
„Der Ball ist rund und das Spiel dauert 90 Minuten.“ Gleiche Wortwahl wie beim Intro von Lola Rennt. Gewollt?

Can anyone recommend similar music?
check out stuff by Cosma, S.U.N. Project, and make sure to listen to some of the Scandanavians like Reefer Decree, or Logic Bomb. you might diggit.
